hmm kinda funny since he never saw any actual combat and deserted the army to run off with a 14 year old girl named grace allin in 1902 whoes father finally found her and reported tom for desertion and which carried the death penalty in those days during war, so he ran off to guthrie oklahoma territory and took the name of harry micks untill the government pardoned all deserters...funny how the truth gets covered up
This movie bio-clip was made by studio publicists with active imaginations. For instance, In April 1898, during the Spanish-American War, Mix enlisted in the U.S. Army under the name Thomas E. (Edwin) Mix but his unit never went overseas or fought in any wars. Historically, he was not with Teddy Roosevelt in the charge up San Juan Hill; nor actually a Texas Ranger ( he was made a “honorary” one because of his celebrity status), or a deputy Marshal, or wounded in these alleged lawmen careers.
To all that have said they are related to Tom Mix... My father's name is Tom Mix and he is his father was his first cousin. Dad is always looking to meet his distant relatives.
@rotterfamily3 Related through his mother's side Elizabeth Smith not Heistand.Would really apppreciate the fact on the Heistand part, can give you the facts on the Smith part.
Thank your for this biography. I have everything on Tom Mix that I can find but have never seen this. What is the origin? It has wonderful picture clarity, however almost every detail of the biography is complete fiction put out by the Fox publicity department. Tom Mix is the all-time king of the cowboys and the best one ever!
Thank you for sharing this wonderfully informative video! I remember my dad always talking about Tom Mix and his wonder horse, Tony. I guess he'd go to the theater every Saturday where a serial played, starring Tom Mix. Doncha luv his big hats?
Being of the next generation, I grew up watching John Wayne in the "Three Musketeers" serials shown on T.V., and then going to the show to see his full length movies. He remains my heroe to this day.

I am actually related to him too. Its a shame the way he died when he was in his hay day. My great Grandma would always tell me stories about him.
