Of course the slim can stand up without the "plastic stand", but it will tip over easily unlike the first generation PS3. If you have kids or animals, it will get knocked down.

I think this is not safe because every touch to de ps3 can turn over. I should use a vertical stand for the ps3, because it is safer and you have'nt to worry about it.
The stand definitely costs too much but i wouldn't keep my slim standing vertically without any stand. I will search for some 3rd party stand if there is any, it should cost less.

I know with the large PS3 models, standing it upright is safer. If you lay it down, the heat rises into the power pack and ultimately would destroy the system. So if you have it standing vertically, heat rises out of the side, pretty much missing all that important stuff it may otherwise blow up. I would do the same with the PS3 Slim just for a safety measure. It also make it where it can fit in a place where it wouldn't be able to fit while lying horizontally.
The system was designed to be both vertical or horizontal. It's got nothing to do with nerdiness, some people just like conserving the space. I've always had my consoles vertical due to space constraints and I've never had any issues.
You've been playing WAY too much XBox, lol. Bluray discs are virtually indestructible. I bought a used game ad it looked like there was an inch deep gash in the disk. I cleaned it off with a bit of disc cleaner, and in a few seconds, it was gone. Only way you're gonna break it is if you really try, lol. Like dropping it from the top of a 10 story building, and it still might not shatter depending on the angle it hits.

@Cripton805 No, an employee at Gamestop laughed when I said I wanted to exchange it. He simply took out a cloth and rubbed away what SEEMED like a deep gash. May sound stupid, but I seen it. Hell, I got a bluray copy of Talladega Nights given to me because it was in a flood. I washed the disc off and it looked brand new. Before cleaning it off, it was covered in mud and everything.

@Cripton805 Fine, I will rephrase this in exactly how it went down: I bought DBZ Raging Blast for the PS3. Checked the disc, and I seen a huge gash in it. I ran my finger over it and I could feel it being rough where that gash was. Tried getting it replaced, and the gamestop employee simply took a cloth and applied the cloth as if rubbing away smudges, and the gash was gone.
I would still get a stand for it, just because of the fact that you never know what kind of people you have around that can knock it over off of whatever place you have it sitting on. Just to be safe. Im getting mine at the end of the month. =)

Yes it's true that some 3rd party developers make good attempts to put hardcore titles on the Wii, but considering the woeful sales of those titles, especially compared to the HD consoles covering the other half of the market.
The Wii just isn't a hardcore friendly console for gamers and devs alike mainly because of it's lack of power and HD capabilities.
wii has gone hd and unless you can prove that the wii does not appeal to hard core fans which will be kinda hard to do seeing as how it does well I don't know what you are trying to accomplish.

Cod4 sold 8.15 million and 5.03 million on the 360 and PS3 respectively.

Clearly the evidence states that the Wii is not very appealing to the Hardcore audience. But there will always be some such as yourself who go against the flow.

@95PROJECTX doesnt matter becuase the plastic wont interfere with the aliminum heat sinc becuase plastic will collect heat no matter what just becusse its on a horizontal postion and the plastic collects more heat doent mean anything becuase the motherboard has a 4 mm gab between it and the plastic so theres not a solic connection between plastic and board.

I know with the large PS3 models, standing it upright is safer. If you lay it down, the heat rises into the power pack and ultimately would destroy the system. So if you have it standing vertically, heat rises out of the side, pretty much missing all that important stuff it may otherwise blow up. I would do the same with the PS3 Slim just for a safety measure. It also make it where it can fit in a place where it wouldn't be able to fit while lying horizontally.

The system was designed to be both vertical or horizontal. It's got nothing to do with nerdiness, some people just like conserving the space. I've always had my consoles vertical due to space constraints and I've never had any issues.

You've been playing WAY too much XBox, lol. Bluray discs are virtually indestructible. I bought a used game ad it looked like there was an inch deep gash in the disk. I cleaned it off with a bit of disc cleaner, and in a few seconds, it was gone. Only way you're gonna break it is if you really try, lol. Like dropping it from the top of a 10 story building, and it still might not shatter depending on the angle it hits.

@Cripton805 No, an employee at Gamestop laughed when I said I wanted to exchange it. He simply took out a cloth and rubbed away what SEEMED like a deep gash. May sound stupid, but I seen it. Hell, I got a bluray copy of Talladega Nights given to me because it was in a flood. I washed the disc off and it looked brand new. Before cleaning it off, it was covered in mud and everything.

If you put the disc on a buffer I can understand if it was deep, but any disc can be repaired with disc repair liquid. not just a piece of cloth. unless you actually used the cloth enough to buff the disc in which you actually rubbed off part of the disc to get it smooth enough.

@Cripton805 Fine, I will rephrase this in exactly how it went down: I bought DBZ Raging Blast for the PS3. Checked the disc, and I seen a huge gash in it. I ran my finger over it and I could feel it being rough where that gash was. Tried getting it replaced, and the gamestop employee simply took a cloth and applied the cloth as if rubbing away smudges, and the gash was gone.
Better? lol. That is exactly what happened.

Well the word hardcore can have some variables one could be competitive, violent and something you just can't put down right away while I don't think the wii specializes in hardcore it does appeal to the hardcore group such as house of the dead, brawl being competitive the conduit and dead space extraction are also games that are listed as hardcore even COD has been on the wii.

Yes it's true that some 3rd party developers make good attempts to put hardcore titles on the Wii, but considering the woeful sales of those titles, especially compared to the HD consoles covering the other half of the market.
The Wii just isn't a hardcore friendly console for gamers and devs alike mainly because of it's lack of power and HD capabilities.
Still a good console, but a casual one at that.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare: Reflex Edition on the Wii only sold 800k copies.
Cod4 sold 8.15 million and 5.03 million on the 360 and PS3 respectively.
The Conduit sold under 400k copies, madworld sold just over 400k copies.
Clearly the evidence states that the Wii is not very appealing to the Hardcore audience. But there will always be some such as yourself who go against the flow.

But we may never know.
All I know is that it is more reliable than the xbox (50% failure according to game informer)

lol dude every1 i know that had a modded xbox got banned. they banned waaay too many people i think this time around. go for the ps3 slim. also look at the xcm adapter, u can use your xbox360 controller on the ps3! and they have killzone2 :)

hmm well the xbox 360 already come with a headset so you dont need another one, unless it breaks and to enjoy the console u dont need xbox live (unless u want) and you dont need the remote because you can use your xbox 360 controller as a remote
