I know this may sound a little harsh but honestly, why is the game that has Mario and Sonic together about the Olympics? A 3D-adventure title would seem like a no-brainer, or a sort of 2D-platforming or RPG title following closely behind. Heck, even a fighting game would be awesome. Instead, we are limited to the ridiculous concept of well-known Nintendo and Sega characters battling it out in the Olympics which were never successful in the first place. Way to go, Sega.

I love many of Nintendo's games: Mario, Advance Wars, Metroid, Fire Emblem, Zelda, Kirby... But they have the tendancy to throw in tons of crappy games just to make more money out of their fans.

I'd love it if they invested their money on new luxurious projects - maybe revive the shoot-em-up genre or make their own flight simulator (like "Heatseeker" + online)...

Y'know, make people run to the game store with excitement.

I don't think the idea of this game is bad, just that it's not done right. For a start, those games are supposed to unify the world, whereas the players play alone, or with nearby friends. If they adapted it for massive online playing and gave players the option to "train" their characters to improve their abilities, then I believe it would give the gamers a sensation of sport.
