Maria Callas is my biggest influence. I am an opera student and Callas is the ultimate actress and singer of all time..in my opinion. Tosca was her role. Thanks for posting
This is indeed the official EMI recording with La Scala Orchestra under Tullio Serafin done between 3 - 16 September 1955 and released in 1956. But the tenor is Giuseppe di Stefano, and Rigoletto is sang by Tito Gobbi. I have the complete box set.
Absolutely fantastic, although I do like Edita Gruberova's rendition of "Caro Nome", but that's just my opinion. Maria Callas does do one of the best "Sempre Libera"s, next to Joan Sutherland.
I might point out that you have the comprimario tenor's name as being "Roberto Ercolani". It is indeed not, as both EMI and Frank Hamilton (the leading Callas documentator) have his name, on multiple recording occasions, as being "Renato Ercolani".
The two greatest renditions of Caro Nome were by Maria Callas and by Joan Sutherland. There isn't a current opera singer that can match either one of them in vocal purity and perfection, nor in emotional range!
@GreekCallas For all the recordings there is a recording date and a production date who corresponds to the exit date of the album. The recordings made late in the year (of September to December) have a date of production the next year.

Perhaps, but it was likely release in '56 because that's the year I have in the information about the aria.
