@miyaka1123 the thing is it isn't. They're dead once they get the screw drover through the head, it's just the nerves. Plus we live in a place where none of this is normal, they grow up with things like that. It's just different cultures.
k people lots of cultures have different ways of eating things and im south korean and ive been to one of these places.. yes i too think its pretty crule but ive seen way worse than this and if u just open ur minds to others cultures u may understand
well im pretty sure everyone knows once the screwdriver is lodged into the brain the eel is dead and the body is just reacting like a lizards tail or a fish head when you cut it off cause the nerves are reacting
hey im south korean and yes i have to agree it is pretty disgusting watching the process, but you americans can't say anything how do you think the food at mc donalds is made? hmmmmm?
LOL - That was funny. I don't eat garbage. if you do that's your business. I was taught by scholars not by sub human people like you who are a trifle beneath me. You are the scum that the bible speaks of. Of whom eat all types of abominations and are bias to gays n shit. All that sodomite stuff is your life. I love to live clean. Not even the dog that pisses on the wall of Babylon shall escape judgement. So eat your godless food, My body is my temple and your's is a wasteland.
@mikeygeneral And hey, if you want to "live clean", at least get a formal education before judging upon people that are different than you. You worthless piece of religious filth.
@SafeArmsReview agreed! I was just back in Seoul a few weeks ago and had some jellyfish, octopus, and many other slimeys... definitely an acquired taste, but you're right, lots of it is really tasty!
@JADEAV Actually, the eels are already dead. They are kind of like snakes because their body moves pretty long even after their body are disconnected from their brain. Their body still moves because of nerves going out of whack. ~ YuneShik
@JADEAV didnt they just kill them? screwdriver through the head....so brain is gone all thats left is musle memory for some time. the squid cut and organ gone whithing few seconds so consiousness was gone. and dont all meet products live till slaughtered.i mean look at the US, some places they still basictly abuse chikents to make fast food meals. chikens kept in the dark, injected to make larger so much they cant walk or they die from the rapid grouth. so dont say stupid koreans. ^^ no offence
@JADEAV For your info when you drive a screw driver through the head its dead. The wiggling is just muscle jerks and what not. IT FEELS NO PAIN WHAT SO EVER

I don't find that to be all that disturbing considering that I have ate things... a bit worse than that, although I can understand why you would be a bit freaked out if it was your first time eating Asian delicacies. Good thing you tried it though, many things look gross but often taste quite nice, but I wish people would be more open minded about these things. Just because it may be weird to them does not mean it is dispicable.
@Raymint It's a reflex, since once the tentacle is disconnected from the nervous system, it loses coordination and randomly moves around. It has the added benefit of providing a distraction from the predator that bit the octopus' arm off, increasing it's chances of escape.
It's due to the fact that the octopus (along with many other animals) has a more distributed nervous system. Much of the signal processing and coordination occurs away from the brain.

It has been scientifically proven that taste is directly proportional to movements of the organism at the time of eating.
