I'm ashamed to say that "A Masked Ball" was the first production I saw of this company, bearing in mind I am within twenty minutes travelling time. Yes, technically there are weaknesses. It is an AMATEUR company, and many have a day job. It was a great night out and I'm going again for the next one. You can't compare Chris and Russell to Jussi and Merrill, for heaven's sake!
The recording is not the best & the singers sound as though from a distance (they probably indeed are from the microphone(s)), however the singing is great.
Wonderful...although many prefer the iconic Robert Merrill, Jussi Bjoerling RCA recording, this is, after all, a LIVE recording, without benefit of studio producers. It still brings tears to my eyes.
Well, if this brings tears to your eyes, I wonder what hearing Merrill and Bjorling live would do to you?? I never heard Jussi, but heard Merrill live even though he was late 60's. He was better in person than any recording of his voice. Studio producers don't add one whit to a quality voice. They only help those of lesser quality.

It's in Lancashire, the north west of England, UK. It's an amateur opera society.
