Why would a hobo shave off a real beard to paint on a fake one? I used to be a balloon animal designer and never could wear gloves as they kept getting twisted with the balloon.

Because a Hobo Clown is not a real hobo. It's a character, not a real man. I agree about the gloves and balloons. I'm a lazy ballooner. Rarely use them as a large event meet and greet clown. For small groups like an after school care for soldiers kids at an AFB there are only about 30 kids. That is manageable for an hour and a half with sharing jokes, reading a book to them, and doing simple four legged and sword balloons.
