I don't agree with breastfeeding past the age of 3, but in other cultures where it's acceptable a little beyond that age it can teach a child what is and is not OK to do or say in public. It completely depends on the culture. Here in the USA, I would say that 9 is too old. But in other countries, especially third world countries where it is hard to find clean water or food fir your children, it is alright. It is a lot weird! I'm pro-breastfeeding but not after 2 years. You can get the same benefits for an older child with reading a book and a cuddle on the couch watching a cartoon as you can from breastfeeding at that age. I think it's the parent's responsibility to wean the child when it's time, not the child's decision. Every child must grow up and part of that is weaning off the breast and onto appropriate social interaction. Just my personal thoughts.

Yes it is VERY weird. Trying not to be biased to the way other people parent, but there is a lack and confusion of how to eat. I have had a baby a year ago and breastfed my little guy and think that breastfeeding your child is the best thing to do. But breastfeeding past age one is just plain disgusting! Then it's just all about the mother and not the baby!

cont I bottlefed my first child and was very into intellectually stimulating him from the earliest age. My 2nd I breastfed till age 4 and I was more relaxed and nurturing and did not do all that intellect stuff first time parents often do.
They both have high IQs as it runs in my family but my bottlefed one is overweight and has IQ in the 150s and my breastfeed one is average weight and was tested at 167 IQ. They are now in their 30s

As a teacher taking child psychology I learned we all inherit a range of IQ which one does not usually go above or below (example-100-120) but whether you are at the high end or low end of the range (ie- 100 or 120) depends on environmental factors. He works in the ER and sees all these sick kids & lots of nasty bugs so he wanted to really jumpstart her immunity. He was telling me about all these studies where humans nurse their young for way shorter time than other mammals (when comparing lifespans)...HOWEVER, I did it until she was two and called it a day. If someone does do it beyond that, I think the mom should pump it & put it in a cup.

My unprofessional :) opinion is that each nursing mother, as well as the nursing child, can make up their own mind on how long to breastfeed.I'm currently breastfeeding my 11 month old, but I will probably stop breastfeeding by age 3 or 4.The majority of babies that are breastfed past the age of one year eventually become less and less interested in nursing naturally. As long as a woman doesn't force her baby or child to nurse, I think it's fine

I don't agree with breastfeeding past the age of 3, but in other cultures where it's acceptable a little beyond that age it can teach a child what is and is not OK to do or say in public. By that I mean they learn discretion. Like you said in the vid, it totally depends on the culture and the parents. Just because a parent BF's their kid at an older age (I'm thinking b/t ages 2-5) doesn't mean they're public about it nor are they molesting their kids as is mistakenly believed.

It completely depends on the culture. Here in the USA, I would say that 9 is too old. But in other countries, especially third world countries where it is hard to find clean water or food fir your children, it is alright. If breastfeeding your child until they are 8,9,10 years old, means that they can get the proper nutrition to stay alive, then go for it. Every culture is different and we need to respect their own practices. I'm sure some cultures think it is horrible to not breastfeed well pa

It is a lot weird! I'm pro-breastfeeding but not after 2 years. You can get the same benefits for an older child with reading a book and a cuddle on the couch watching a cartoon as you can from breastfeeding at that age. I think it's the parent's responsibility to wean the child when it's time, not the child's decision. Every child must grow up and part of that is weaning off the breast and onto appropriate social interaction. Just my personal thoughts.

Yes it is VERY weird. Trying not to be biased to the way other people parent, but there is a lack and confusion of how to eat. Kids need to also learn how to use utensils to feed themselves, instilling a sense of independence for them. You cannot be 10, 11, or 17 sucking on your mothers tits. Children can learn sexuality earlier this way and can develop early to something they are exposed to. Humans are sexual creatures, "feeding" hardly the reason. "Vitamins" hardly the reason.

I see people arguing the benefits of breast milk & so on. I agree it is very healthy no matter how you slice it but to be honest my opinion is the kid should be off the breast by 2 years the latest. If the mom is worried about the nutrition or whatever pump the milk. It's no different than fresh milk from a cow on the farm. Same thing it just comes from a human rather than a cow. As for the bonding thing at some point they have to cut the cord no offence you can bond w/o breastfeeding.

Well, 3 is the normal age of natural weaning but I think it’s alright to breastfeed till maybe 5 to 7 years of age. Definitely not 9.

The mother is filling a personal emotional need. This is not what most doctors would recommend for a developing child, especially the child's teeth trying to grow in. You breast feed babies. You rock little kids to sleep and tuck them into bed through their teens is ok, but breastfeeding a 9 y/o. A bit too clingy of the mom, need to give the child some room to develop. No species on earth does what that mother is doing.

i'd have to say no & as much as people hate me around youtube I am all for breastfeeding! I think around 3 is an appropriate age but past that it's time to let go. It's time to let them do their own thing and that is just plain well weird... Maybe they do things differently in europe but I have done a little research and from what I understand breastfeeding milk is only nutritional to those who are little babies and i believe todlers. it's just weird past 3 i think.... ewwwww

I have had a baby a year ago and breastfed my little guy and think that breastfeeding your child is the best thing to do. But breastfeeding past age one is just plain disgusting! Then it's just all about the mother and not the baby!

@Jazz2009ism actually the world health org. recommends breastfeeding for a MINIMUM of 2 years. 9 years old is much older than most women stop breastfeeding, but only in the West do we think that babies should not breastfeed after 1. This is a result of cultrual influence, it is not natural to stop that early and babies breastfeed longer have important and significant health benefits.

Yes it us too old ... There is absoultly no studies that show brain development and higher IQs at that age . Just for infants this pretains to with the IQs . Even animals know when to wean their children . I believe the reason why some mothers do this is to get out of raiseing their children and teaching them independance do to their own insecuritys .
