hi, im thinking of getting an MSI laptop... there's this Core i7-2630QM model for $799.00 @ Costco's Website. is it a good buy ???

@MegaMachelp The keys are squished together. The Fn key sits where the left-ctrl would be easier to reach with the pinky. Would the computer be better with the keys spaced more optimally? Yes. But I got used to it over time.

@amaruz Yes this is an excellent laptop. I have it connected to a 26" LCD monitor through HDMI and it is awesome.

8943g is alot heavier, 10lb vs 7lb

@mikeccuk2006 the acer is 8 pounds actually lol (well almost 9). Plus I am probably going to use the notebook at a desktop replacement, but I think I have decided to go with the sony vaio f (plus the g73s are freaking expensive)

@GrimSplinter MSI chassis is barebone, you can upgrade your Graphic MXM module in the future, lets say 6870m in the future ^^ or 7870m

@SuperEvilSquid When the graphics card is challenged by high quality graphics utilization, the laptop gets hot, as any self-respecting gaming laptop should :-). See my below comments for recommendations on how to counteract the heat.

I am looking for a decent gaming laptop. can you please tell me why you opted for this instead of Asus g73JH? they are about the same price, but Asus has 8GB of Ram and 1TB 7200rpm

@parsani I wasn't aware of that model's existence surprisingly. But it doesn't have the blu-ray dvd rom, and the case looks cheaply made. Otherwise it seems like a good system. I liked the case on this laptop, as the manufacturer clearly is trying a little harder to appeal to the gaming audience. Still, if you're not looking for a blu-ray dvd rom and you're happy with the Asus case, by all means buy it.

@parsani I did a quick search on the laptop you mentioned and saw some negative user reviews you may want to consider before purchasing the Asus.

I haven't needed any tech support from MSi yet so I can't compare customer service experiences right now. I've had two out of three laptops suck out of the box and this isn't one of them. Check out the newegg reviews.

Hey viewers. I just wanted to add that this laptop doesn't have surround sound as I initially thought. It's stereo, but supports a surround sound headphone according to the specs on MSi's website.

@skaterobban: I haven't played those particular games on this PC. Playing Dragon Age and Burnout Paradise, it does get hot on the bottom. You can't sit this down on your lap without a cooling pad. My thermapak heatshift does the trick. If you're sitting it down on a flat surface I'd recommend a USB powered cooling system.

@ErwinMaster I ordered it a couple of days ago and mine does deliver a mouse with it, and a bag for the notebook. ive seen a different review which includes the mouse and it looks pretty decent apart from it not being wireless.
