  • man if you peeps are too lazy to even read the sparknotes summaries, and instead, watch a fucking 10 minute vid that sucks ass, then i say to you, there is no hope for humanity.

  • @FrankC00l Yes it does. The Hat is almost as important as the ducks! The hat is Holden's security, like a little kids blanky. It shows that even though he wants to grow up, he still acts like a child. It's very important!

  • most over-rated book of the 20th century

  • Teacher: How far are you into the book?

Me: Oh. I'm at 6 minutes and 31 seconds

    (Awkward..)

  • It was a goddam green dress that Sunny wore. And Allie and Phoebe had red hair. I like that Holden had some gray in his hair, though. That just about kills me. It really does.

  • 9:27, why does phoebe look like holden's grandma?

  • For chrissake, I hate these phonies in this book. They really goddamn annoy me, they really do. Also, these comments really knock me out. They really do.

THEY REALLY DO THEY REALLY DO THEY REALLY DO THEY REALLY DO THEY REALLY DO THEY REALLY DO THEY REALLY DO.

  • Why does he look like he's some 50 years old homeless?

He is freaking 6'2 and yet you portrayed like midget.

  • and why does phoebe look 65?

  • my teacher said his red hunting hat was important ?

  • @misswinky2to3 lol yeah its like security for him

  • @misswinky2to3 I had it on my test... It really serves no purpose at all.

  • was the prostitute part at all similar to full metal jacket

  • Comment removed

  • Why the hell does Pheobe have blonde hair? She's a red head you noobs!

  • ugh this makes the book sound soooo bad

  • 2:19 Allie had red hair goddamit

  • Not to argue with anyone, but I feel a strong urge to express my opinion on the book. I found it to be the most appalling pile of dribble I have ever read in my life. The plot dragged on for what seemed like years and the main protagonist, if one can call Holden that, struck me as nothing more than an annoying whining little teenager who thinks the world revolves around him. Again, I mean no offence to anyone.

  • @janfrompolde All teens are like that, but the thing is Holden Caulfeild hates the world.

  • I'm only half way thru the book and i listened too far. the guys voice is sexy

  • why wouldn't someone want to read this book, this book is amazing!, it really is!

  • I read this book when I was in high school but I kinda forgot the storyline.

  • If you want to know the truth, this really knocks me out. Goddam SparkNotes phonies, they just kill me. They really do. ; D

  • @indiamedia147 haha i just hate when holden is always saying this.. annoying much:D

  • @indiamedia147 My thoughts excactly.

  • well there goes my image of sunny... btw shes suposto have a grreeen dress.

  • I'm someone who never reads more than one book/2years but I enjoyed reading this one...

  • wow, this book sucks dick.

  • @lmg10ny I concur!!!

  • these comments kill me.

  • Weren't Allie and Phoebe supposed to have red hair?

  • @FaceTune Yes. Yes, they were.

  • Ill read this book for pleasure one day but it sounded extremely dry and boring.

  • @BrooklynJEW7 Actually it's a lot more interesting if you read it.

  • @VIRUSERGEJ ill take your word for it. ill at least give it a chance.

  • LOL for the second highest thumbs up comment.

  • it's about nothing...

  • 02:19

ok that's it, I'm reading this book

  • Goddamn phonies, can't even read the book. That knocks me out, it really does.

  • @WhySoSerious127 you comment killed me

  • This spark note just about killed me, it really did.

  • This is partially wrong in many places. The reason why Holden doesn't sleep with Sunny isn't because of the reason in the video but because she keeps saying "Like fun you are" instead of hell and he finds this childish so he doesn't want to do it with a kid. Or the part about being the "catcher in the rye" should have been explained more. The cliff is adulthood and that's what Holden sees growing up as, falling off a cliff. The ducks show how childish Holden is and so on... So much is missing!!

  • @nacikada You're stupid, stupid

  • The drawings are so..... lol...

But anyways, I think the colors mentioned in the book for details such as Allie's hair (red) and the stripper's dress (green) should have been used in the drawings as well considering they do contain an element of symbolism.

  • hahaha i actually did read the book!! :)

  • i thought jerry sandusky was the teacher that was watching holden sleep....my bad

  • It just banalized the whole story... It´s more than alienation, the sparknote told the whole story by distorting the real ideas of it. The book is all about not wanting to accept living in a hypocritical society... It´s about all the thoughts and insecurities that most teenagers pass through...

  • When I saw Allie a tear came to my eye.

  • isnt pheobe's hair red? as well as Allie's?

  • @pmgirly10 Yeah, but whoever did the art for this is a fucking phony, in case you couldn't tell. He really is.

  • I hate this book so much...

  • @eurasianchica Please without having a major debate about Catcher In The Rye can you please explain in logic why you hate this book I understand the fact that it is a challengend in the U.S. and other countries and adults and teachers disapprove of the book but can you give your insight on why you hate.

  • @TrollNationUnited lol... don't worry I won't debate. Ok, maybe "hate" is a bit strong for my dislike... anyway I didn't like it because holden seems like a horrible, whiny, obnoxious guy. He acts like a spoiled brat, not caring for his education, getting kicked out of school, hanging around prostitutes, trying to take advantage of girls, etc. I'm from a refugee family and HC doesn't have a half bad life but he can't stop whining. Yeah.... that's why I "hate" it. :)

  • a great book. Not as primitve as that goddam summary. In fact, it's as paradoxical and full of transformations (just like "Alice in The Wonderland"). Even Holden's age is paradoxical: on the one hand he's still a kid, on the other, an adult, so now and then a kid transforms into an adult and vice versa. Great read.

  • i fuckin hate this book for fucks sake every sentence say ''goddam goddam goddam goddam goddam goddam goddam its fuckin gay and annoying

  • @darthvader379 you are a fucking moron

  • @fuckit463 how?

  • OMG who cares if the drawings were crappy just appreciate u can watch a friggen cartoon of this book

  • Allie's hair is not gray, but Red

  • sorry but the drawings were terrible!

  • The horse Phoebe rides is supposed to be brown not pink...

  • I imagined Jane to be brunnette, i think i'm the only one

  • why does holden look 47

  • Wasn't there supposed to be some crazy cannon on the top of the hill? Come on, just read the book, it's an easy worthwhile read. Damn phonies...

  • I just read the book.. It's a first story in 8 year that they have given to us at school that doesn't have made up crap.

It's conferring that is on the realistic side :)

  • FUCKTARDS!!!!!!!!

  • Wow....they made Mr. Antolini's part seem so insignificant.

  • ...why not just read the book?

  • he sees the words FUCK YOU! haha

  • This was fucking terrible. Sparknotes, you've ruined my adolecence.

  • They're displaying Phoebe's character to be annoying, but if you read the book, you can see that Phoebe is one of the best characters! I mean she's kind, smart and the way this video portrays her is weak.

  • diD THIS NINCOMPOOP SAY MISREMEMBER

  • I love Holden Caulfield! :P

  • I think they made Holden out to like Sally Hayes a bit too much. At one he describes here:

“I used to think she was quite intelligent , in my stupidity. The reason I did was because she knew quite a lot about the theater and plays and literature and all that stuff. If somebody knows quite a lot about all those things, it takes you quite a while to find out whether they're really stupid or not.”

But still, not a bad intro nevertheless. One of my favourite books.

  • Holden isn't at a mental hospital?!!?!

    *mind-blowen*

  • This sparknotes was ok but it portrayed a lot of the characters incorrectly. Allie and Phoebe are both supposed to have red hair. Believe me, this book is worth reading!

  • alright, sparknotes just doesn't give this book the same appeal as if you were to actually read it. and believe me, it IS worth reading. I hate reading, but I love this book and it's my favorite. I also really related to it. strongly suggest this book

  • wow, we're even too lazy to READ the sparknotes

  • @wuman95 LMFAOOOOOOO SO TRUEEE LOL

  • Isn't Pheobe's hair red?

  • @TheAbctime Isn't allie's hair red? I don't think sparknotes read the novel! ;)

  • U just helped me ace my quiz

  • What about the part with the shattered record he's suppose to give to Pheobe?! that part's one of my favorites.

  • This book is a masterpiece in my opinion. Please DO NOT judge it based on sparknotes. Its absoloutely worth reading

  • thank you so much!

  • who friggin drew these picture animations? everyone is so ugly looking...

  • What kind of trains were like that in the 50s? 3:10

  • Glad I never read this

  • i finished reading it today and i don't get it. the end doesn't conclude anything though it's a good thing he didn't hook up with Jane, cus that's what i was expecting. it was a good book but i don't see why it's as famous as it is.

  • @TheJayman213

I was 14 when I first read this book. I have never related to a character so much as I did when I first read that book, particularly because I think I read it at just the right time in my life. It's actually a really accurate picture of a teenager's mindset, albeit it's a very extreme case. Judging by its status, I think a lot of people really felt the same way.

  • @BloggerMusicMan I read it at age 15 for English Literature exam. Such a good book, I still ove it and I am 47. :)

  • The prostitute is a young girl. This depicts her as a woman. Holden is horrified that a young girl could somehow be living such a corrupted life. This is an important element of Holden's "Catcher" fantasy.

  • best book in high school ever

  • poop noodle

  • 1 Word Summary: Goddam.

  • People comitted sucide over this??? and that guy killed JFK over this???

  • it was not TB. you have NO proof. he never says he almost got TB. he was in a psych ward. i know that. it was a psych ward. dont ruin it. i hate this video. a lot.

  • @hitchhikersHERO Page 5 of 1991 First LB Books mass market paperback edition. "That's also how I practically got t.b. and came out here for all these goddam checkups and stuff"

  • @Logistica11735 Yeah, really, lets just go watch tv WOOT

  • Wasn't the sister supposed to be red haired sort of?

  • this is a book about a kid who doesnt stop bitching

  • i love u

  • Didnt Phoebe and Allie have red hair? The pictures ruined some characters for me..

  • Catcher in the Rye>The Great Gatsby

  • @Bobio247 they didn't..

  • I wish i had this video 20 years ago

  • That phone is a PHONEY!

  • Most People are Phony!

  • such a great book. i like how many time salinger put the word "goddamn" in the book, lol.

  • @RamanN00B don't forget that sonny was young.

  • The best thing about this book arnt the evnts in it, but the battles and thoughts Holden has in his head. You can never get that in a summary

  • How do you dislike a video like this..

  • Timeless book. Mr. Salinger wrote something that every generation can relate to. The book bothers me, but makes me feel good at the same time. It's no wonder that J.D. Salinger lived secluded all his life.

  • ally and phoebe are both ginger, holden has half-gray (all on one side) crew cut hair, sunny has a green dress, sally is blonde, and phoebe is wearing holden's hat during the end which is significant.

  • jazz penis

  • Im to lazy to even read the spark notes book. And how old is Holden?

  • @wellseriously

Sixteen when it takes place. Seventeen when he's narrating it.

  • this reminds me of onani kurosawa...

  • They showed the phone booth 7 times.

  • loved this book

  • i hated this book.

  • i love this book

  • How many times was that picture of Holden in the phonebooth used?

  • allie's hair is red not grey 2:25

  • Yea I'm sorry I just finished the book today it was great and I was wrong

  • Wow I'm glad I already read the book before watching this. This is not how I pictured the characters. But it's still meh, and I don't mind these video's. But there are a few inaccuracies with the appearances of some of the characters.

  • Why does he have grey hair. He's 17

  • @TheMrjeffery1 Hes actually 16 and he says several times in the book how he has lots of grey hairs. Did you read the book?

  • Why isn't Sunny's dress GREEN? Man, these SparkNotes are so phony.

  • great book and amazing drawings

  • I thought Allie had red hair... Which is why the red hunting cap is so special to Holden and makes him feel secure because it reminds him of the connection he had with his brother

  • @Playinbass247 if I remember correctly, that is right. but all details like that can be found on sparknotes i think. There's so much more there than in this video.

  • why is sally's hair red?

  • @utubehalowa19 why is Allie's hair NOT red?

  • I have an unnatural instinct to kill a celebrity now...

  • me to but im too lazy

  • @23Shinin23 That's just begging for a South Park reference.

  • This is smart because sometimes im to lazy to read the sparknotes

  • What the fuck is this shit? Caulfield is clearly blonde.

  • What a life!! What a guy!! So foolish!!

  • The narrator of this video is one of the reasons jd sallinger only wrote one novel, douchebag

  • I save children from drugs!

  • DON"T ADD ANY PICTURE!!! It's literally destroying the story

  • how in the world did this get banned?

  • only book ive enjoyed in school. made me want to be a teenager in NYC in the 50's..

  • Its like that new South Park episode where Stan sees shit no matter what he does or where he goes.

  • Shouldn't sunny look younger than that?

  • You never said anything about the red hat :O

    I find that very important

  • Holdne Caulfield is way better looking than THIS

  • Thank you Sparknotes. You really saved me with this one.

  • i act like Holden Caulfield.

  • @Bobio247 no, it's there, at the 7:39 mark

  • OMG MAURICE DOESN'T LOOK SKETCHY AS FUCK....

  • Reading the book is waaaay better!!!

  • This video is just a piece of shit... Guys seriouslly ,read it on your own...that book is just incredible

  • Sparknotes messed up grammar?!

...Who Holden thinks is a bastard.* Not whom... Silly Sparknotes.

  • I dont get y the guy that killed john lennon made a reference to this book and it shouldnt be an american classic

  • Holden is such a whinney, unappreciative pussy. He is the worst protangonist ever.

  • @UberDeathTurtle- Sounds familiar though doesn't he?

  • @piemakesmelol I don't get it.

  • @UberDeathTurtle- Your problem with Holden is funny because you claim he is whiny yet you went out of your way to whine about that issue. Seems a little hypocritical, you might not like Holden but at the end of the day he shares qualities with everyone that people can relate to, you included. Are you trying to say that as a teen you were never unappreciative? Oh and how exactly is he a "pussy".

  • @piemakesmelol LOL. I wasn't whinning, I was just stating facts. Who wants to read about a mopey little bitch? I had it way worse that he did, and I never complained about it. Is is a spoiled rich kid lol. And he is a pussy because he got punked out when he was punched by a pimp in the stomache. Try getting cut by one with a dirty razor. Plus, he never mans up. He just stays a little bitch. Plus, I was always appreciative of what little I grew up with. Cry baby rich boy is what he is.

  • @UberDeathTurtle- That's bullshit, everyone at some point their life complains about something. You're essentially saying that despite any hardship you've never EVER complained...and that's simply not true, we all do it. If you would have payed attention to the book you would have realised that he was not whining about money, he wasn't even whining. He was complaining, there's a difference. He finds fault with a lot of things, you clearly have found fault with the book.

  • @piemakesmelol I don't sulk about it and let it ruin my life like he does. He is a pussy, man. He has an easy life. Even in his struggles, it was still easy. You are barking up the wrong tree here. And no, I never complained about much of my hardships. I always said that that's life, and I learn from my mistakes and make it better. I don't wallow in my own self-pitty.

  • @UberDeathTurtle- Once again that's rubbish, of course you've complained about your life. That's human nature, you're faulting Holden for being a human being and that's not really fair. Whether he has an easy life is not the point you're looking it as all literal the whole point of Catcher in the Rye is that nearly everything is symbollic of something else or is a metaphor. If you read it at face value then its not going to see
