  • Thos indonesian necks by squier have gotten better, but they are formed in a humid climate..and they tend to bow., they probably need a roadworn process, so it is hit or miss with them, now if you want and interesting neck try the chinese made squier necks, I see they are putting them on the Fender Brand.... Also I put on my squier jazz vintage jazz modified 70s a squier active v (ebanol neck) ther replacement neck for it wasn't as good..

I'm thinking on getting a mexican 70s neck for it...

  • Enlighten me, does the 2 knobs are Bass and Treble, but it stated on the website that its a boost and tone.

  • This video inspired me to get one of these basses. I liked it so much that I traded in a well loved Fender P Bass standard to get it. This bass plays and sounds fantastic! It is the gem of Squier's product line.

My Modulus Q5 and Burns Bison bass will be collecting some dust for a while as this axe is gig worthy.

Stock strings are good. Setup is medium and good. Tuners stay in tune pretty well. Nut is nice.

Frets are not rolled, but not a deal breaker. Battery compartment is easy to us

  • This guy looks a bit like Seth Rogen

  • How long does the battery last?

  • Scumbag blues!

  • how does this bass compare to the older squier jag? the one with the duncan pickups.

  • great video. very informative, very fun!!

  • Excellente basse pour débuter, très facile à modifier pour ceux qui préfère les basses passives...Rapport qualité prix imbattable

  • what song is he playing at 3:30

  • @sebthegerbil Gigantic by Pixies, cheers.

  • gigaaaaaantic

  • SOUL TO SQUEEZEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

  • @evilelbie It's really good. But seriously, don't get hung up on labels. As long as it feels and sounds good, it's good.

  • @evilelbie there is no "starter bass" , suit the bass with you , if it don't , don't go buy those things , choose the other bass that SUIT you

  • What is the difference between this and the (more expensive) version with the block inlays?

  • @FriendlyShadow1 I believe the only difference is that this one has a rosewood fretboard, and the other version has a maple one.

  • @OptoOcto I have found out other differences since I posted that. The other one I was talking about also has a rosewood board, passive instead of active, and stacked volume/tone knobs. Not to mention Duncan-designed pickups. The one with the maple board you're talking about is the Fender Modern Player Jaguar.

  • @FriendlyShadow1 Oh yeah. You're right. Sorry. Good luck, though!

  • Where can I find a left handed one of these basses

  • @evilelbie i don't know what would make a bass a "starter bass", but i think it's a nice guitar. i'm pretty sure "starter" anything just means it's cheap so you can feel out whatever it is and see if you're interested in pursuing it further, but there are a lot of cheaper basses than this one, and you already own it, so just play the shit out of that fucking thing

  • The SS version has no active EQ.

  • Nice! Them Crooked Vultures! Made me happy :)

  • should i buy this or a affinity jazzbass?

  • @HJT069

affininty is a crappy entry level i'm afraid

  • What riff song is 5:15? sooo pretty!

  • wow, thanks a lot seth rogen !

  • 4:10 A pick within a PICK.

    PICKCEPTION!

  • Yeah strummer101 go for it but note the s/s version is not the active battery version with 4 knobs it just has the three.Definately good value for the price and get the candy apple red colour like in the vid its a corker:) btw lightweight with a cutaway yet solid definatley not like a toy.

  • thumbs up for Pixies riff at 3:29!!!

  • Comment removed

  • I just bought my son one of these but the s/s version with a ampeg 110 amp not a bad starter combo for an 8yr kid imo.

btw Indonesia are going ok they get heaps of cash off Australia hehe :)

  • @101stguardsman I am going to get my 7 yr old one for christmas. So many SS guitars and basses and rather toy like, I this a solid bass ?

  • I like the way u played scumbag blues by TCV in the middle of the video. Also it sounds awesome

  • How are the working conditions in Indonesia by the way? I'm sure all those Indonesian factories' subcontractors are completely legit as well?

  • he plays soul to squeeze wrong in the beginig but still nice video

  • Checking CHECKING lmfao

  • hahaha In the intro you play soul to squeeze by the red hot (:

  • Bah, my bass is in my house, one room away, and I'm not allowed to touch it!! -_-

  • It's just a battery guys. Just keep an extra one in your gear bag. I think we can all afford $3 every year or so.

  • so if and when i run out of battery, can i replace it or when i run out, is the ride over forever?

  • can you recharge the battery?

  • @666wheelbite I think it;s a normal battery size you can by in every store, not sure though though. dont have it yet, on its way though :D

  • @Cavian18 ahk thanks anyway haha :)

  • Comment removed

  • soul to squeezeeee yaaaay :)

  • i have this exact bass

  • should I buy this bass or a Squier Vintage Modified Precision Bass?

  • @mitchqqqqqq They're both great basses for the price. I prefer the VM Jaguar over the VM Precision Bass since it comes with a 2-band EQ (more versatility). If you've never owned a bass with active electronics, you'll need to make sure you unplug it, or you WILL drain the battery.

  • How long about does the battery last? And where can I get replacements?

  • So if my battery dies, will I only lose my bass boost EQ or will I lose all my elctronics?

  • @stormtimedoor1138

You will loose all the EQ settings and about half of the volume.

  • @stormtimedoor1138

That is on the humbucker model and probaly this one also.

  • @celtkid95 cool, I think I'm gonna get the VM jaguar bass not-special for the passive electronics then. Thanks for the heads up

  • was that soul to squeeze at the beginning?

  • Is this the shortscale?

  • We're playing the pickups with a pick!! Histerical. Love my VM P-bass, going to order a VM Jazz very soon to balance out to universe.

  • I am new to bass (switching from guitar) and I really love this bass so far with all of the reviews but I was just wondering, I really want this bass to last a long time, so the fact that it only has 20 frets instead of 22-24, will that detract from the usefulness of it?

  • @TacozzHD

Most Basses only use 19 or 20 frets, and 22 is more common than 24. I don't think I've seen many Fender/Squier Basses with more than 20 frets.

  • @McPhersonBassMaster I just recently bought my Ibanez GSR200 and I'm in love with it :) It's got a beautiful tone and naturally very loud. I got it on sale too so it was only 160 but my guitar/bass teacher tells me it plays like a 1600 dollar one :) He's buying one himself.

  • @TacozzHD

    :o

You Lucky Bastard, I can't even buy THIS bass yet! :P It's going to take me about 5-6 months, seeing as all I do is throw papers, and I plan to get strings and the professional Luthier that lives here in McPherson to work on it.

  • @McPhersonBassMaster you should learn how to work on your own instrument. saves you abunch of cash.

  • @Asterophium

I should, I just don't really trust myself with some aspects right now. I plan to be a luthier when I'm older anyways. :P

  • damn that bass looks so sexy

  • great slap sound

  • when did seth rogen learn bass?

  • man this thing sounds unreal for $200, hell it would sound unreal for $800

  • Hey Owen! New glasses? You look much better - less nerdy. And you've become funny! And you're still a great bassplayer. Love your reviews. YOU SHOULD BECOME THE NEW BASS WHISPERER!!!

  • is this any good for songs like kasabian? Or would the BC Rich Warlock be better? I have no idea about these things please help

  • Them Crooked Vultures! <3

  • Red Hot Chili Peppers! <3

  • soul to squeeze, cool!

  • The only thing with Squier indonesian, the necks bow after rainfalls.. the Chinese made necks particularly the vintage 60's...blue sky blue...don't move..

  • @nexusvision can you provide a little more of your experience on the necks and humidity ? Do ya live in a generally rainy area ? I've got several Squiers and demo'd quite a few before buying I notice the necks are hit or miss. but the ones I have tend to need truss adjustment every now and then ( bowing) and I'm in a dry climate .

  • the same day i seen this vid i went out and bought one lol

  • where playing the pickups with a PICK !!!!!!!!

  • QUESTION: So even if the bass is plugged into an amp it still needs a battery to play? how come

(sorry im new to being a bass player)

  • @Y2JMcMillan hey man, all good, the battery 'boosts' the signal of the bass, and ads to the EQ as well (ie adding more or less bass and treble).

    hope this helps :)

  • @edenite hey thanks yea that makes sense one more ? tho

will the bass play without the battery even plugged into an amp or does it always need the battery

  • 3:06 Loving the Them Crooked Vultures tune JPJ is an unreal bass player "Scumbag Blues" SICK tune love the bass!!

  • would it sound any different from the short scale version?

  • 5:00 epic face

  • Does the basses input jack stick in well?

  • Soul to Squeeze ;)

  • I had no idea Seth Rogen did bass reviews!

  • @RHCPFitz You make my day dude... HAHAHAHA!

  • This guy looks and sounds like a total dork. Nice bass though.

  • Soul to squeeze riff ;)

  • Lol'd at the title. Also, this is an awesome bass. I have it, it's my first :D

  • As a correction from the description, this bass doesn't have active EQ or active pickups.

It has passive pickups and a passive "master EQ" but an active bass boost that adds a lot of low end.

  • 4:29 fifi - mirror in the bathroom

  • I didn't know seth rogan played bass...

  • I didn't know seth rogan played bass...

  • Love the Vintage Modified Series (I have the 70's Jazz bass and have been making some additional mods to it) they are truly great basses for the price. And while I hate to nitpick as it could just be the audio quality -does anyone after hearing this feel like the jazz pickup is pulling a lot of the weight? Just curious, maybe it's just me. If I buy this one the I'm already considering a Gotoh high mass bridge, either Nordstrand or Dimarzio pickups, and GHS pressure wound strings.

  • @ltdbassplayer I just bought this bass and noticed a few things. First off, when combining the jazz & p pickup the jazz takes away a good bit of volume and low. The jazz pickup on its own is very quiet and lacks a little definition IMO. The P pickup is very powerful and gives the expected sound. Overall the bass is fun, but it's a little muddy and the preamp is a little disappointing to me. ;-)

  • @ltdbassplayer And there ya go ! the mods you are doing will make this bass a killer tone machine, Go Dimarzios . Hard to pinpoint issues with the p/us when your hearing an mp3 or similar crunch audio online. Ck it out in person then you'll have your answers.

  • wow a gearwire video without bitchy comments

  • Bass is the essence of the band...

  • he's got the pedophile look going on xD

  • @TESTandASET yea it's the same maple neck (satin finish) with rosewood fretboard. Only diff is the black varnish headstock on the short scale version.

  • GIGANTIC!

  • wow OWEN you have gotten so much better at the reviewing gig! More confidence and more information. Keep it up!

  • I love the pixies bass line. Niice.

  • A $200 dollar bass with Activie EQ, pretty amazing first bass for some lucky kid. my first bass was a Cort and it was horrible, though later Cort got much better.

  • On the SS version of this does it same neck as the one you are testing like is it still maple and varnished?

    Thanks.

  • MARIO!

  • this guy is awesome!

    amazing bass

  • what a coincidence...ive just been learning soul to squeeze

  • I've been looking for a new bass, and this got me to try this at a store.

    I'll be buying it, soon.

    <3

  • i love it when you he tests out the basses with flea riffs. for real, very smart.

  • 3:06 Scumbag Blues - Them Crooked Vultures

    Nice!!

  • 4:30 -- There's that same bass line again! I told you it would drive me crazy until I find out what it is!

  • can you make a video with the squier vintage modified jaguar special hb ?

  • I have one of these on layaway.

    They are awesome.

  • make me wanna buy one :)

  • WoW!!!! you can play them crooked vultures with it!!! seriously im going to get one of these

  • Gotta diss on the fact that, as talented as he is, he did not know that the standard bass guitar scale length is 34"; come off as unoprofessionally glib. Also dissing on no mention of the VM Jag standard model, which is passive P/J, and the perfect "bar-beater' bass. I put an aftermarket bridge and straplocks on one, am still under $300 into it, and it positively kills.

  • Squier keeps bringing out basses that I want! I have the VM Jazz fretless and it's great.

  • soule to squeeze- chili peppers!! :D

  • Anyone who says that Squiers are shit nowadays should really take a look at the VM/CV lines. Just as good - if not, better - than Fenders. Get 'em quick, before Fender comes to their senses and raises the prices!

  • I love that "then crooked vultures" bass line! Good review, too.

  • Squier are every bit as good as any Fender branded instrument now!

  • Don't you love how all the comments on his guitar reviews are people complaining about how "They can play better, blah blah blah", but the people commenting on the bass reviews actually talk about the bass?

    I love bass players.

  • @IttyBittyAnon He he just jealous cos THEY don't have what the presenter is playing!

  • @DMSProduktions no,they are jelaus of his 'stache

  • @isomikieee LOL! Maybe...they cant grow 1 of their own!

  • @IttyBittyAnon yeah coz guitarists need to prove theyre better and bassists know they are...lol jk

  • @IttyBittyAnon so does my girl :D

  • @IttyBittyAnon yea man guitar players are a bunch of hooting and hollering nigger jews!! you tell them bitty!1one@11

  • @tingly7654321 dude... I play guitar... AND ITS TRUE.

  • Comment removed

  • @tingly7654321 whatever look ate paul mccartney you dumb fuck played guitar and bass and was very good at both

  • howard moon

  • Fender should consider Squier's Vintage Modified range as the standard for that brand.

  • kaka plaplaow

  • sick moustache
