  • bloody brilliant

  • Even though you may not like to admit it, pitchfork is right 95% of the time

  • @Boogalooa48 unless theyre covering hip hop

  • @unclegusyo so true

  • This is fuk"#$ awesome, the Animal Collective should try to do Drum n bass!!! =D

  • the soundtrack to my life...

  • Why am I obsessed with this song?!

  • This is the greatest thing I've ever heard

  • This song makes me so happy. :) One of the most intricate and delicate songs they've made. It's a shame a lot of first time listeners would probably not make it through the first 3 minutes, before the song turns into something more accessible... Serves them right I guess. :/

  • i love this :-{D

  • panda is so fantastic in this

  • 3:10 brings a strange smile on my face! and i love it .. always!

  • my fav !

  • can this be my life song.

  • i love mathjin

  • animal collective are a very forward thinking band, but u gotta love the grateful dead sample! lol

  • beautiful.

  • amazing

  • I love the voice loop! Is that Paul Mccartney's voice????

  • @borlo phil lesh from the song "unbroken chain" by grateful dead which is also coincidentally a better song :)

  • @rotolo thanks for the info! actually i've been trying to get into the grateful dead leately. thanks!

  • lovely

  • Weltklasse!

  • i didnt want the song to end, its so good

  • If it didn't end it would be boring.

  • It sounds like Chris Martin singing in the background.

  • @Eoinposse If Chris Martin sang on an Animal Collective track - I'd quit listening to music forever.

  • @cullen1298 why?

  • I agree with this

  • That's a lame excuse to quit listening to music. Coldplay is a good band.

  • @cullen1298

    That's silly. :P

  • What a fantastic band. This is how music should be done!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • loving the 7 8 beat... ancoforevz yalls!

  • @angelomfg its 7 /4 isnt it?

  • @Yojinso Actually it feels a little bit more like 7/8 because the main beat is not every note but every two. Anyway for sure they are 7 beats :)

  • love it

  • Such a good song.

  • I love how their songs start off sounding like one thing and then build up to something far better :)

  • Actually it doesn't start off sounding like something, later building up to something spectacular :)

  • I can only guess what eubeyargentina said... in other news I loathe the term "hipster" when it's used negatively in relation to music!!!

  • BEST SONG

  • The most interesting song I've heard in a long shot.

  • shh with bickering, listen and love the music :)

  • @ashnfn well, thank goodness now they have YOU to tell them what to like. where would they be without your sapient guidance.

  • I'm not telling anyone to like anything. I'm telling everyone to stop comparing AnCo to Radiohead. Two very different bands with different ideas.

  • @ashnfn i actually heard about pitchfork several months after hearing animal collective. if you generalize like that you will always be wrong.

  • More than a hint of Richard Ashcroft in here. Very good though.

  • I love this band but how do they compare to:

    1) A good whisky (or whiskey)?

    2) The company of good friends around a camp fire in the lake district?

    3) Knowing that tomorrow you have nothing to do?

There is no need to compare. Sometimes you can simply like all the choices. Sometimes you can listen to the Animal Collective while drinking whisky around a fire with friends, in the lake district, knowing that tomorrow is another day.

Sometimes I like different things for different reasons.

  • Liked the live version way better. Brilliant either way.

  • best song of 2009 in my opinion

why are people comparing radiohead and AC? They are completely different. Kid A is genius and so is this lets leave it at that

  • wow... just wow, this is soooo good :D

  • everything I wanted to, this track, and more...a beatiful goodbye

  • BEST SONGS OF 2009:

1 What would I want? Sky - Animal Collective

2 Lust for Life - Girls

3 Little Lion Man - Mumford & Sons

  • end of 2009 maybe...

i'm not sure whos best... they are all great!

Simian Mobile Disco - Audacity Of Huge

    Editors -Papillon

Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Heads will roll (a-trak rmx ftw!!!)

    Jamie T - Sticks'n'Stones

    Peter Fox - Alles Neu

Kid Cudi vs Croockers - Day n Night

La Roux - In For The Kill

and sooooo many more! good year :)

  • signed!

  • @decko87 Diggin' it. My personal faves are:

    1. Velvet - The Big Pink

    2. Basic Space - The xx

    3. Brothersport - Animal Collective

  • GENIAL

  • I just can't put to words what an influence AnCo had on myself the past year. The music they released made every other 2009 release ridiculous. And after MPP, they even had this in the drawer. That's just amazing.

  • This and On A Highway are definitely my favourites.

I'm not sure why but, everytime I listen to Animal Collective, I have to think of Babylon Zoo :p

  • me siento un afortunado por estar viviendo estos tiempos. gracias animal collective!!!!. dentro de muchos años yo podré decir que viví este momento y que fue maravilloso

  • amen hermano

  • you can't compare animal collective and radiohead, and even if you could why would you, they both are great bands that experiment a lot, but from my point of view that's one of the few similarities they got.

and who the fuck decides what being ahead is, they are in the here and now, and make music because of that, why make a completely retarded discussion about it.

  • @sl0wmation becouse people just too lazy to think

  • i hear Good Dreams, I don't think it matters, still so dank

  • best song from their ep. love it!!!

  • Favorited. Animal Collective are very good, top 5 album this year, just don't think they should be annointed Radio Head 2.0 quite yet.

  • @mossamore Sorry but even if these guys were better than Radiohead they're still very very different from them.

  • Tell that to Pitchfork. Both bands are consistently 4-6 years ahead of the curve with experimentalism and integrating ambiance and traditional techno elements into mainstream so people think it's never been done before, and in a way, it hasn't.

  • @mossamore thats kidna like u see to peopple who look completly different and u ssay theey both have blue eyes brown hair and beards. they may sound the same described but completly different real. this is completly better then radiohead

  • Did you just compare Animal Collective and Radiohead?

Just don't, Radiohead win, I'm sorry but they do.

Yeah Animal Collective are great and I've been listening to them for ages, but Radiohead make music that is just on a level beyond genious (which is the level Animal Collective are touching on)

  • Fuck man, why does everything have to rated on a scale? Both bands make absolutely beautiful genius music. I can enjoy Merriweather just as much as I enjoy Kid A just as much as I enjoy Dark Side of the Moon. You don't have to order your favorite bands.

  • @eubeyargentina You've obviously not listened to Radiohead alot have you, what they do is far from simple, its art.

Yeah Animal Collective are brilliant nd I can't fault them.

  • Comment removed

  • umm radiohead and animal collective are two of my favorite bands... so umm...fuck you. I find i strange that you would call radiohead simple when even their minimalistic songs like talk show host just surge with emotion. put some headphones on you'll know what i mean

  • @eubeyargentina if only you knew what the purpose of music actually was, then maybe you wouldn't be writing all this irrelevant pretentious drivel.

  • Comment removed

  • who are you to judge if it was created in a forced way or not? i do have the concept of harmony. and i also get the concept of soul. something you might wanna work on.

  • @eubeyargentina wow, you've studied music since you were less than 4 years old? no comment, Pinocchio.

  • Comment removed

  • @eubeyargentina don't feel too important, it's about music here. people don't wanna know how you live like.

  • Comment removed

  • @eubeyargentina it's unbelievable, because you don't seem to have any basic understanding of musicality and artistic expression and only focus on some pretentious petty technical aspects. but maybe that's 'cause you didn't pay attention in school. in any case, it's your loss because it only limits your appreciation of music, although you may mistakenly believe otherwise. i went to music school too, which taught me to appreciate art in all its manifestations, and i'm really grateful for that.

  • Comment removed

  • Ha, i'm sorry but no one's going to take you seriously when you use a sentence like "just because Radiohead don't impress me".

  • Comment removed

  • Well, in 1967 pink floyd droped The piper at the gates of dawn, and in a way we have only just caught up. I see what you mean about Radiohead but I can not compare them to the Collective and there last record was great.

  • <33333

  • i freaking love this

  • don't fast forward to 3:10

  • I think that I've been addicted.

  • @bleach man: you're dreaming?

  • to*

  • @IceCubeOfDoom Lame trolling attempt

  • Really? That's to bad.

  • @IceCubeOfDoom fast forward to 3:10

  • this is even better than MPP...

how is this even feasibly possible?!

  • Good Cheese?

  • I heard grilled cheese. :I

  • Fucking Epic!!

  • Amazing.

  • I like this song a lot

  • i recognize them in this song, but ah what should we do people? if the hype continues we must create a group to make them go nuts again

  • FOR ALL THE NAYSAYERS:

Subjectively this song may be a little hard to digest for some people but,

Technically, it's near impossible to pull off such a smooth vocal over a 7 count beat. Not to mention the sonic clarity, sheer originality, and beautiful melodic phrasing of this song. This band operates at a level of complexity like none other. Truly progressive....

  • seriously, the only good part is when they phone in the already proven catchy hook. animal collective as sample whores

  • If this is what Animal Collective is going to sound like in the next decade, I swear the 10's are going to be amazing. Musically, that is. Absolutely beastly.

  • You're pretty pretentious yourself, the way you express out loud your opinion in a desperate attempt to look like an independent thinker. I say let's both keep our opinions to ourselves from now on, ay?

  • I gave this song another try and I will take back my words, this is truly a new direction in music, and I mean a positive one

  • WTF?????

    this is it.

    epic.

  • Forward to 3:10

  • "Luh-Di-EEEEE!"

  • Good stuff.

  • @andygarcia69

that might have something to do with it being a DIFFERENT SONG.

  • @andygarcia69 omfg how terrible!

  • I can't hear the Grateful Dead sample...

  • If you can hear "What Would I want? Sky" in the lyrics, then you can hear the sample.

  • FUCKING AMAZING.

  • was awesome hearing this song live earlier this year. What an amazing band.

  • i hope i get this beautiful album for shitmas

  • shitmas? ha

  • would it then change to Fuckingreatmas?

the ep is great got it yesterday, this, the first and the last tune are the best its like a little dessert served up after the Merriweather. Just incase you were still a little hungry.

  • good vibes

  • Curry flavored nuts!

  • woop I love it! best band around at moment! (Well these and Radiohead :D)

  • we have the same taste. nice.

  • It's funny that AC preceded one of their most poppy songs with three minutes of fairly abstract stuff. I know a lot of people who won't even wait until the poppy part starts. Serves them right.

  • I actually like the mix of ambient and pop. The ambient serves for a real nice build up.

  • DO YOU GET UP UP UP

  • This sounds to me like a groovy 90's song. at least how it should've sounded.

  • killer track. they opened with this at meredith music festival. was amazing .. i still havent heard this ep yet

  • cool story bro

  • Btard

  • Comment removed

  • i think you might be mentally retarded.....my condolences

  • ah so good =]

  • AC is the Shiatttttttttt...amazing fo sho

  • love the dissonance here- pop sensibility but still sounds so off and raw. beautiful work, AC do it again.

  • grateful dead + animal collective = my life is complete

  • Unbroken Chain is a gorgeous song on its own. This song is like its much more elegant, well-read, talented, handsome grandchild. Love it love it love it.

  • yay phil lesh! i heard somewhere this was the first licensed grateful dead sample ever

  • holy shit!

  • this song makes me feel like I'm lying next to the pool on a warm summer day with the sun shining down on my face and sparkling off the water as I watch the clouds drift by

  • @thenameisbond: Yeah, my introduction to Animal Collective was this past Spring '09. There were about a dozen of us good friends at one of our houses pool party. Good drinks, good bud, good people, and good music. The whole day was spent in and around the pool, with nothin' but love to share among us. The song that kicked off this glorious day was My Girls. Best day I've had in years. We all wound up skinny dipping and I made out with the girl I'd had a crush on for months. :D happyyyyy

  • fuck you, lifer.

  • you sound like a bell-end

but she was an uggo too

  • massive gay

  • nice :)

  • that's your fantasy son; not mine

  • As long as this song is, it's still too short.

    Love every secondddd

  • probably one of, in not the best songs animal collective has ever written

  • and for AC, probably my favorite band

    and this EP didn't disappoint!

  • all right, this version has officially grown on me. God damnit :-(

  • Yes, someone had mentioned how great older Modest Mouse stuff was (in the context of other great music, which is how it got into this thread). I'm only familiar with recent stuff, so I asked for some suggestions and they were kind enough to provide them.

  • btw some good modest mouse songs are heart cooks brain, trailer trash, polar opposits, dramamine, life like weeds, paper thin walls, all night diner and 3rd planet. Yeah their older stuff is deffenatly better

  • and try out ugly casanova!

  • modest mouse!

  • like most animal collective songs, this sounds nothing like any other animal collective song.

  • sleepwalking by modest mouse is a great song also

  • Are you trolling, or do you actually think that the moon and antarctica is an animal collective album??

  • he was replying to the guy below him talking about modest mouse

  • I believe they are having a conversation about Modest Mouse, my good sir. Quite a digression from an Animal Collective video, so out of context I can understand the confusion.

  • What would I want? ...sky!
