  • Where the hell do you learn to do this. Must know now. Must get laid.

  • In which city does this challenge go?

  • girl in red T-shirt <3

  • This is awesome

  • wow!awesome performance!charleston is such a nice and crazy dance :)

  • je tuerai pour savoir danser le charleston!!! brvo aux danseur^^

  • My 93-yr-old grandmother had older sisters in the '20s who did the real Charleston...She saw this and said, "what the hell are they doing?? This isn't the Charleston..." No need to try to be so fancy, kids...

  • @kiddo78mn

The problem with this post is that these kids are most certainly doing "real" Charleston. The Charleston is a street dance, which means it's not codified, which means that as time goes by the dance changes. The elements that make it Charleston are quite present. And yes, there is need to be fancy when you're competing at the Ultimate Lindy Hop Showdown. I'm sure Grandma's sisters probably had no need to be this fancy or, frankly, this good.

  • @kiddo78mn They can be as fancy as they wanna be. It's livin'. 'Sides, this is a combination of various styles, also, Charleston was about improvisation. Lindy hop, swing and all that jazz.

No need to try to be so condenscending, man. =)

  • perverts

  • !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! .

  • damn that first girl is smokin hot

  • GO ahead with your broken arm dude! YEAH!

  • "Well call me a taxi!"

  • The girl in red shirt is love <3

  • Fantastic!

  • Why does that one guy have his arm in his shirt...?

  • @chachaleeroy

He's dancing with a broken arm.

    Awsome, ain't it?

  • @chachaleeroy

He's dancing with a broken arm.

    Awesome, ain't it?

  • the chick in the orange never lets the guy in front of her finish....OH HO!!! Nevermind! at 6:24 she gets TOLD!

  • @fatbiscuit looks to me more like the guy takes too long to get off the floor because she comes in at the right time with the music.. and I think the guy at 6:24 was telling the group something not just her.. I could be wrong though

  • the chick in the orange never lets the guy in front of her finish....

  • 4:21 , it looks so great !!

  • haha I love how the camera guy focuses in on the red girl near the end

  • lmao...folks are sooooooo proud to see a group of white folks keeping time to the music.

  • I love how all the people in the charleston finals are white!

  • AMAZING!!!! BRILLIANT!!!GREAT!!!! I LOVE ALL THIS GUYS!

  • @TheAron961 probably because he is doing it in a cast? obviously he did something to injure it thats why it is always close to his chest

  • @TheAron961

  • Holy shit! Sometime tomorrow I'll be standing in the basement flailing my arms trying to learn this. :D These people just put the Newboyz and all their jerking to shame!

  • @SpaceAgeNinja I don't think you really get how this dance community works. There aren't a lot of people who make their living entirely on teaching this type of dance; and those who do have to be "the big thing of the moment" to do so. Honestly, I prefer vintage or vintagesque clothing myself; I think that period fashion had a direct impact on how a dance was danced, b/c of restrictions, fabric flow, etc. However, dance itself must evolve, and I love hiphop influenced Charleston.

  • @Direness You sure that's not hiphop influenced Charleston, but Charleston-influenced hiphop?:):):) Otherwise it sounds, ah... shall we say odd: (to say the least:):):) Like " Chevrolet aveo-influenced Bugatti Veyron":):):) Anyway, mentioning "hiphop" and Charleston in the same sentence is a travesty and should be a felony:):):)

  • @bamberlog how about this sentence: "Charleston was one of the main stylistic influences for the hip hop dance (bboying), which began its development in 1970s." that's travesty? I believe that's history.

  • SICK!@ but the first girl in red is really the best :D

  • god, i love the music so much!

  • @SpaceAgeNinja okay so we'll let you do old dances exactly as people did in the 40s and be a novelty act that never goes anywhere with it. and guess what, people who compete in dance still have day jobs. until you get into the pro circuit and have people pay you $100 an hour to teach classes, you have to work for a living. you're a jerk, let people express themselves like dance is designed to do

  • ecstasy

  • @SpaceAgeNinja but why change who you are just to have the "right image"? these people have put their own spin on the dance, so why shouldn't they dress like themselves? not to mention a good suit and tie is a bit pricey, I know I can't afford to dress in anything better than a nice shirt and slacks when I compete

  • It's called musical context.

  • This is sick what she doe shere 1:38

  • so who won ?

  • @SpaceAgeNinja totally agree.

  • two guys in black shirts that did duo in the beginning are the best (guy with broken hand is just insane) and third place for the girl in red. Then guy in plain black polo. THe other two sucked,

  • the girl in red :3

  • Where do these people come from/

  • No matter how you look at it, if you play Around the World to any Charleston dancing, it fits magically.

  • The girl in the skirt is soooo good, but just a bit too flailing.

  • lol so silly

  • what song is this?

  • Terrific!!!!!

  • As impressive as this is (and it IS impressive. Worth watching.) I'm just amazed that no one got punched in the face in the part when they were all dancing around at once. So many limbs flailing around at random. That would make it epic.

  • Freakin' love the charleston. More people should do it.

  • sh#t ! This is just sick . Now i know where did all the jumpstyle and DnB step dances come from... And a big respect to you guys ..

  • @jozef93 True, I've actually incorporated a little bit of my jumpstyle back into my solo Charleston. I'm learning everything backwards. :) Jumpstyle takes a little from eastern European and Russian folk dancing and music as well.

  • that was worth 8 min and 36 sec...

  • ths is epic....im gonna learn this dance just to reck all the ghetto dancers at my school.

  • @zooyork350z nice, just remember this was the original ghetto dance

  • The girl with the hat is so animated :)

  • The girl with the hat dances a lot like Joan Crawford who was one of the original flappers.

  • Idiot

  • shut the hell up

  • come on!!!!!! 2005 was far far better !!!!!!!

  • Is the guy with the arm in his shirt Max Pitruzella?

  • how can i get the music ?????

  • I just saw this on the Ellen show!!!

  • Possibly the best solo charleston competition ever captured on video!

  • I think one year before was better...

  • it reminds me of Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta

  • OMG I LOVE HER!!!

  • EXCEPTIONAL !!!!!

  • I love the girl with the hat! She has such character!

  • Woohoo,... Happy Dance....;)

  • what 's the name of this song??

  • I've found A New Baby

  • this is like an uprock breakdance tournament i know who's moves i'm stealing next dance competition lol gret video

  • wats with that ones dudes arm? he keeps it in his shirt?

  • Probably because its broken. When you're dancing with a broken arm, sometimes its better to keep it in a shirt so your partner's arm doesn't accidentally catch the straps or cast.

  • this is great, hats off to all...

  • ok for me this is the real initiation and begining for all types of nowaday dances

  • meaaan

  • ...which can very well in have been a catalyst for the uniqueness of this dance as well as the entire african-american culture in general. And this dance is indeed a dance of the 20s. So why don't you at least check before you doubt somethin? Wikipedia is just two clicks away, man, don't be so lazy.

  • this is fucking awsome........

  • Who says white people can't dance?

  • @hochderkaiser jajajaja yeah men asi se habla

  • @hochderkaiser yeah men asi se habla

  • @hochderkaiser but who started the dance? lol believe me i love swing dancers i am one myself, but im black.

  • @hochderkaiser yeah they were just jealous

  • @hochderkaiser Only it looks like they're having a seizure when they do :P

  • damn man,

if you kill the sound of the video and start ur own player with techno sound it looks better than with the original musik because, ravers use the same dance for techno ;-)

damn buddys u guys are really awsome :-)

  • And when it was all over, redtop ponytail beat brokearm.

  • I wasnt aware that places like this existed....bad ass

  • "Who Won!!??"

  • "omg!"

  • where are theses contests held at?

  • ULHS used to be used in MN every year, but this year they moved it to New Orleans.

  • its amazing how african americans can make a dance and later on the whole world will catch on learn it and love the style of it

  • uno d elos chabos de negro, la chaba del sombrero y la guera de rojo Waaaooooo.

  • agree, woman in red rules :-)

  • The girl in the red shirt is amazing. I've seen this video several times, and all the dancers are talented; but she just blows them all away. Great job.

  • baile como loco esto! y no es facil! de verdad y estoy deacuerdo! la de rojo la mejor!

  • The girl in the red skirt is dancing more true to the style of true charleston. It was very awkward, and the arms were stuck out straight. She is sticking to the more authentic style, even though it might not be as popular.

  • The dance has been refined since then. I don't think authenticity is a valid argument.

  • This is amazing and wonderful and will never get old!

    Top notch:)

  • no mames la chaba de rojo es la mejor!!!

  • .Exelente ! ; gracias ,desde buenos aires.

  • This is honestly one of the most amazing things I've ever seen in my whole life.

  • yeah, you're right. dancing like this is so easy and requires no talent at all. lol! :D

  • It's better then all the new shit that's deemed popular these days.

  • the guy w/ one arm in his shirt is my fav!

  • dude, that guys arm is just tucked in his shirt...whats up with that...???

  • he broke it that weekend. at the comps

  • Lol I love it. It's so fun.

  • LA DEL SOMBRERITO ESTABA DROGADA?

  • magnifico!

  • The first girl rips the competition to shreds!

  • Yeah, that's ol' one-arm Lenny. Best one-arm dancer there is. You betcha! He'll go up against any other one-arm dancer out there.

  • Is one of the dancers lacking an arm?

  • i love charleston!!! especially if you can use clever variations on your moves. i agree tha girl with tha red top is AMAZING. but after watching tha clip a few times i think the girl in the red skirt has an awkward style but its stil right... maybe more in a contemporary way...

  • super:D

  • This is amazing very nice nice moves nice ideas everything awesome

  • that's just awesome

  • first girl won by a mile

  • Red shirt = awesome. Red skirt = awful.

  • Definitely. The girl in the red shirt is so smooth and feels the groove so well. The one in the skirt is random and awkward.

  • The girl in red rocks!!!

  • the band is southside aces, and the song is "washboard wiggles" (though this version is reminiscent of "i found a new baby")

  • Great! love it! but i'd also like to se you dance with clothes of the 1920's

  • for sure ! the 20's clothes would be better! But it is still nice!!

  • quiero aprender a bailar charleston

    .....

pero no c si en bogota aian escuelas

  • yeah, dress the part 1920's,not jeans etc.wear the clothes of that era.more flapper stuff! all dancers are exc! thanks!

  • girl in red blouse is killer!

  • Sharon:D

  • Is this a yearly event and if so when and where is it held?

  • Yes, this is the Ultimate Lindy Hop Showdown, held every year in Minnesota.

And just so you all know, in my opinion, it's much easier to dance in jeans and a t-shirt than it is in a suit, or flapper dress! I think they're dressed perfectly. :)

  • Thanks for answering my question and I agree on your clothing comment.

  • they should have worn the right clothing

  • I like that red dressed girl :D

  • haha you spoke my mind

  • After watching these videos, man, do I wish I could dance right now!

  • The 20s period was in fact the real era of revolution in dance taste and fashion, not the 60s as we sometimes are lead to believe.

  • amen brother

  • The girl in red was great!

  • ...yeah, and she looks quite originally dressed - great performance !

  • what a spectacle...!!!!

  • That guy was good. Give him a hand because he sure can't!

  • anyone know the girl in the red tops name?? xD

  • Yes her name is Sharon Davis. She was one of my lindy hop teachers in Perth, Australia. She's a fantastic dancer.

  • Learn to spell MORON.

  • What an amazingly expressive dance... I fell in love with each and everyone of you...

    rave on...

  • nice~

    the tall guy is awesome.

and the girl in the skirt seriously looks like the chick from popeye...

  • Girl in the red top was kick ass

  • This was the most awesome show down ever! the girl in red was quite got (:D

  • thats what i call an old fashion ho down
