Man, Kuroda could've played better with that Ryu. I mean his form looked like it wasn't changing. He seems to release his Denjin way too early upon the start of charge, but whatever, he got the job done. Props Kuroda.
It's very difficult to observe, but around the 5th hit of her super, her leg is at the highest point during the kicks. That's your only clue how many to parry. But like you said, it is extremely difficult to red parry.
Good to see 3s still alive, I still play every other day. And I thought Dud players were extinct, happy to see players like Aiku & Dan in the scene still.
24:40 is a perfect denjin setup but i remember one time fujiwara ex parried the fireball and super'd on me. i did the same speed of the 3 hit denjin there and he still managed to pull off a super after fireball parry. crazy shit.

kurodas style for ryu is so random, risky, but yet strong. i should pick up a lot watching him play here. a lot of good matches. it'll help my ryu vs dud matchup using sa3. reminds me of Ero Gaijin's dudley.
Thanks for 37 minutes of SF3 greatness. Those fights were sick, and that Ryu was definitely awesome. Too bad the western world can't really compare with the Japanese's level.
Is there somewhere someone can go to get all the players. Maybe get it off SRK or something? Annotations is what I'm thinking. Cool video I'm a bit through it.
'WOW: thank goodness for translators! I think Kuroda IS the guy from Japan who was talking about how good Denjin can be, and THIS is the kind of evidence I sought to show my support for that belief! :O
you are awesome TheShend. This has been the most epic set of matches uploaded in a long time. Thanks for continually galvanizing the 3rd strike scene.
basically players that gets +3 points (+1 pt for a win, -1 for a loss) gains a "level" or "rank."
on the other hand whoever gets -3 points loses a rank.
when a player "level up" their rank, they go back to 0pts. they are eligible to play other players that are 1 rank higher or 1 rank lower than their current rank.
(spoiler alert)
so at the end of this video, kuroda, nuki and boss (from last video) are at rank 10. whereas ike, genki and dan are at rank 7.
All over the tournament but especially notable in the last match, Kuroda really took beatings when the opponent was almost stunned. I know it's not my place at ALL to criticize but his opponents are the ones in a high risk situation and he should be punishing their risky mistakes from the high pressure situation, rather than eating them. Maybe there's something I'm missing.
All in all this is the best tourney I've seen in a LOOOOONG time and I'm favoriting for reference.
30:30 I think Ike could have shaken out of this and supered had he been faster. I mean, Ryu super-jumped in. Some people can shake off dizzies before a normal ryu jump-in.
32:47 Advice from an Oro to Dudleys. This is a stupid trick already but never ever do it on Oro. Cl. MP hits through cross counter, and if oro has at least a meter, you're dead.
19:24 was either a terribly risky tactic or godly reaction time.
9:29 was fucking hilarious. When mindgames fail they look retarded and when they work they look ingenius.
20:01 Ike makes an amazing comeback from a horrible start.
20:30 first time I've seen someone parry that chain as AA, but the follow up was weak (he didn't have much time to think on it, anything to super is good).
24:06 Moments like these don't make sense until you see the same tactics working.
Kuroda is a fucking beast. Also 3s players are much better than they used to be. Ike's combo at 8:17 is the most awesome I've seen Dudley, though for the meter it burned it seemed to just be for show. 12:00 Genki had some impressive shit (except that failed super parry); he's held back by Alex' natural limits. Nuki had like 5 super opportunities before getting a single meter in the first round against kuroda the match after. That parry and follow up at 14:00 showed readiness for anything.
Aiku is how you would write/pronounce "Ike" in Japanese. They're different romanizations of the same name. Both are correct. Translation is rarely clean.
Well, it makes sense: Nuki likes using Chun and she's at her best in 3s; Daigo loves shoryuken and, thanks to FADC, it's balls to the wall crazy good in sf4.

That's Erotic Teacher. Ero Gaijin was the team name of the US West Coast Team for SBO4. :P

no, ero gaijin is also the name of a top dudley player.

(At least, Americans aren't on par with the Japanese at SF3. In SF4, the gap is way smaller.)

Wrong again, Jwong is the only player even close to on par with some of Japan's players.

you can tell nuki has a SFIV mentality some what, no one used to do regular bird kick off low fowards and pokes, but he is doing it like a pro

Umm, NO. Pokes into SBK is used all the time in 3S against characters who can't crouch block it (i.e. Dudley, Hugo, etc.) MOV uses it a lot.

Yes I see that they move up or down a rank every time they win 3 or lose 3 in a row, it seems the opponent they face is in random order tho.
And these guys are at 8 and above, I wonder who are all ppl they stomped on to get there lol.
AneurysmXX 2 years ago
Is there a name for this tournament format?

the rules are based off a japanese mahjong-style tourmanent. unfortunately, i dont know what the format is called in english.

27:10 was some pretty impressive guessing on Genki's part, though the only really impressing thing was the stun punish.
