@90magor Rotations of the "bullet". The computer tells the round to explode after 6200 rotations (for example).

@swertinge07 it has a radar sensor in the fuse on the nose mate it can go proximity , timed , timed radar activation proximity ( stealth for the firing ship) and also just straight penetration which it does remarkably well for a 57mm weapon :)

@MrDiredemon When in "proximity" it is set off by radio waves (what you call radar). When in timed mode it is set off by x number of rotations. The timed proximity, means that the proximity fuze aren´t turned on until x number of rotations... Search for 3P 40 mm.

@swertinge07 you're wrong mate :( nowhere on that posted video did it mention rotations being the timer lol the round's fuse can be programmed at firing or in a manual mode by an operator with a tool or simply left in auto-prox for older pieces with out the attached technology, the magic is in the fuse and its RADAR seeker dumbass you went long winded pal it showed your error :) and the seeker on the 40mm is an older type than on the 57mm sorry to bust your intel bubble :)

@swertinge07 the RADAR seeker head is the proximity fuse it works by tying into the guns radar tx or the ships main radar tx and seeing the painted target can judge its distance to target by measuring the time it takes for the energy to return it does this itself in the ammunition a few million times a second til firing when mode is selected , its bloody accurate and can even be "stealthy" good swedish gun tho needed to fire the ammo :)

First off it was aerial bursts deploying 1100 tungsten pellets for each round, designed to take out soft-targets, you know humans. No need to sink the boats when there is no threat alive anyway.

Also the ammunition can be fired directly on to the boats, but then programmed for impact or penetrating and then dispersal inside.

Really lethal shit, also the ammunition and the MKIII can fire at helicopters, jets and missiles too.

@knaZur Sweden is practically a member of NATO. They train with them, they take part in NATO missions, SAAB 39 Gripen is made to carry NATO weapons. I think its probably time for us to become a full member. The "we by ourselves" approach doesn't work anymore, not with the pathetic state of the armed swedish forces.

Plus, NATO membership would force Sweden to increase its defense spending, if I remember correctly? Doesn't NATO require a member to spend a certain amount of the BNP on defense?

Bofors has been around for a while. This crew supplied the commonwealth and British armies with their AAA guns in WW2.  Go the Swedes!

I had heard Bofors was used on both sides, so I checked. You're right, Bofors did not sell guns to the Germans. (I didn't know it was 30% owned by Krupp until 1930 thought). But Bofors did allow other countries to make the gun under licence, and Germany captured the Kongsburg factory in Norway and produced them as 4cm Flak 28. They also used captured weapons.
