Wow, I had the biggest crush on Adam Ant in the 80's. Saw him in concert in NY back then, I remember he came running down the aisle from the back of the theater down to the stage, woo hoo! Thanks for posting videos.
I had never seen this before. It really shows Mr. Goddard as a success story rather than a cautionary tale. So many wonderful people I know are unable to set a goal or achieve one (on account of their mental health issues) , so Stuart's successes and artisitc genius shine as examples of what we all need to aspire to. I ache for Stuart and his family and friends in the face of all that media scrutiny. Your fans love you and always will, Adam! You are an entertainer of the highest caliber!
@shussey100 and you're a cretin, and frankly as a fellow sufferer of manic depression I feel you're more of an oxygen thief than any sufferer of mental illness. After all Adam Ant inspired so many people and you just flame online...well done you have ammounted to nothing of worth...
On a nicer note a wonderful documentary show casing a fantastic man kudos!
@TheHairSandwich yes, he helped us forget the misery of a lot of things back then. Always loved this documentary, I had no idea he had suffered mental health problems.
Adam is a true, unique, very underated musical genius, and he will always be a legend to me. I miss the feeling of looking forward to buying new music by the great man!
Thank you so much for posting this. Joanna Saloman is my grandma, she died last year and it's so lovely to be able to see her talking sat in her house on Youtube. It's brought a tear my eye while I'm naughtily looking at the web in work! Thanks. x Stuart's always been lovely every time I've met him.
Thank you, DirectD, for this info. It was a trivial question; I know, and it wasn't causing me to lose sleep or anything. I was just curious. I'm an American -- and that term is likely a "British-ism." Never heard of it called anything other than construction paper.

'his face glared down from a thousand bedroom walls'? Which fucking thick subhuman sick gargler wrote that? I think it was a few more than a thousand...
At the end is says her name I was actually just about to comment on whether that was in fact the same Justine Frischmann. Elastica's debut is in constant rotation for me. I enjoy it almost as much as "Kings Of The Wild Frontier".
In his autobiography, Adam says his first major crush was his teacher Joanna Saloman (who appears in this clip at 1:49.)
Describing her as "a tall redhead, with long, shapely legs" he writes "The time I spent gaping at her represented an almost religious experience for me."
He says this "of course went unnoticed by her but importantly she returned my love by the encouragement she gave me in my school work."
Just read the Stand And Deliver book and watched this straight after i finished. He wasborn to be a star and although his career has been a struggle and has not been made any easier by his being bi-polar and ringing the tabloids from his psychiatric ward after the unfortunate incident outside the pub he has achieved more than most of us could ever dream of. Respect to all those who stood by him. It can't have been easy.
My best friend is totally bipolar but manages it all so well without any meds and had just started light therapy. It's amazing what they go through and what it must have taken to be as outstanding through it all as he was. BRAVO ADAM..BRAVO!!
I am glad he had Marco to stand by him. Good lot that Marco!!!
Saw him on Kings Tour in Nassau Collesuim in Long Island NY and at the Bloody Valentine show also at same venue with Billy Idol( Gen X) and Gang of 4. Would pay an ongodly sum to see a show like that again. I do not go to concerts anymore. Nobody that intersting to see. 80' smusic was awesome!! Adam is my hand down favorite! What a fun!! Knowing that he was performing through all of this is astounding.
Thank you very much for posting the video. I have re-discovered Adam Ant recently, as in Spain had little diffusion. He´s one of the best pop artists of the 80-90s and I had no information about his story as a person.
Now I know about his problems I consider his wonderful work even more valuable and praiseworthy. I wish the best for him for the present time.
Thank you VERY much for putting these vids up. I was an AntPerson in the late 70's-early 80's (back when I was a wee lad), and have retained a spot in my heart for the man. Hearing about his recent struggles only endears him to me that much more, since I can relate personally.
I grew up listening to Adam Ant and saw him three times in concert here in California. I remember INXS opening for him before they had ever had a hit in the U.S. (Waldorf Theatre, San Francisco). I have always followed his career and wish him the best.
Holy cow! That show at the Waldorf was my very first Adam concert ever!! I saw him do 2 more shows on his Strip tour (in San Francisco and San Jose)when I was living in Redwood City, CA! What an exciting time for music then!
Yes, I also saw Adam perform in the Concord Pavillion, and in San Jose. At the time I lived in Sacramento and did not have a car, so it was quite the challenge. I was actually introduced to the music much earlier (pre-stand and deliver video) who brought back some mix tapes from England.
Thank you SO MUCH for posting this!!! Adam IS an IMPORTANT ICON in popular music!!! Adam, please come to California to play, I have never seen you live before (I am missing out on your talent)!
HOLY CRAP, THANK YOU FROM THE BOTTOM OF MY HEART FOR POSTING THIS.. I love ant music to day more hten I did back in the day and I soooo loved it then. It is great to here and watch a real individual artist. I hope he is felling much better. Anyone who has heard the real deal laughs at the bands like Blink 182..Pure Shit! Ant Music 4E.. gets the party started every time!
Thanks! Adam is above anyone else who musically was deeply unappreciated and ignored. He's a genius and should be acknowledged appropriately for his genius original brilliance as a musician.

Hi all. Does anyone know what the quiet acoustic tune is after the beginning titles finish, when his teacher is speaking about him?
solitarysorrow 1 year ago
@solitarysorrow The song playing in the backgroud at the beginning is 'Catch a falling star', is that the tune you mean?
ScumFreezebag 1 year ago
@ScumFreezebag Yes, that's the one. Many thanks!

A critic of Adam Ant once said that Adam "had wrapped his fans in cotton wool".
Thank you Adam for wrapping a whole generation of unemployed young people in cotton wool, and helping us forget the misery of the dole queue in 1981.
I will always respect you.
