If you read books, you would know people have been saying this for all 3000 years of recorded history. The reason to live a life of frugality is for freedom, to owe no one nothing, to not be a slave to a job. Forget thinking the world will end, prepare not for the end, but prepare for your future.

George - At 2:36 and 2:39 I detected some slight coughing. Could that be the lingering effects from what you inadvertently inhaled with your buddy Mike when you recorded your 'military virus video' that you made a little while ago?
This important thing about food is to start making from scratch.
This allows you to keep a lot more staples on hand and FIFO through them before they go bad.
Start with pan cakes, bread and pizza all pretty easy and you will get a great feeling of accomplishment when you cook from scratch.
If you live out where you can have chickens get some. I sell the eggs we don't eat or barter for pre65 junk silver. Works out great! I will try to make a video on eating cactus - grows all over the SW.
Why don't you just learn to grow food and can it??? Amazing. I grew up in CA, but until I moved up here where people can actual grow, can and hunt food, I didn't realize how clueless and helpless I was.
I am clueless and helpless no more. Most people know all the skills up here, and we all take care of each other, but helplessly waiting for the govt to fix things for them isn't something that would be tolerated up here.
I'd like to remind people just to be realistic. The worst that can happen in the near future is hyperinflation and a currency crisis, but even with that happening, it won't be as bad as we might think. Food will still be in the stores. Places such as Wal-Mart will still have aisles of stuff, but it's your money that you should be concerned about.
What they're doing is playing artificial scarcity on us, while we have very little cash. It's a way to further destabilize the people.
One thing I gotta ask...people live in society whether functional or not. People do not live alone anywhere on this planet!! C'mon get a clue, put on your thinking caps, and begin to live without fear.
If your guests are this afraid, they aren't worth of passing their genes along anyway.
George, we stocked up in 2008 and the crash was softened. We have been working through that food back-up ever since. This time around we are spending $150 on freeze dried foods each month. Cutting off any eating out. This stock will be used one day and if it is 5 years down the road the food will still be fresh. For water purification we are also stocked up on the Berkey water filters that do wonders to polluted water. There will be water in the streams, you will just need to clean it.
No Sir...you DO NOT know what's coming...you're NOT a fortune teller...NO ONE knows what's ahead in the future...you're just saying this because it helps your Doomsday Business.

The other huge place to cut back is on cleaning products & products for the home. I have been learning how to make all my own cleaning products for pennies & saving hundreds of dollars.
Urban survival, eh? Don't cities have forest preserves anymore? Go fishing and hunting ffs. It's not that hard. Go pick wild mushrooms and plants (just make sure they're not poisonous).
@mikebius Good point. People should learn to hunt and fish but in a real emergency relying on those skill as your only food source will lead to death.
@Hellfireblogs You can also pick wild fruits, veggies, and mushrooms. You can boil tree bark and eat it, you can eat insects. Pound for pound grasshoppers have more protein than cows. Get yourself 5 chickens. My friend gets about two dozen eggs every week from them.
@mikebius I'm talking right now. Apparently you've never been to Chicago. We are loaded with deer in Illinois. I've seen them in the streets of Chicago and the suburbs. One time I saw about 30 female deer standing in the middle of Pershing Rd and Ogden Avenue, in the middle of the night. We also have coyotes from time to time, pheasant, ducks, geese, quail, squirrel, rabbit, dove, and fish (as long as you grill the fat from it and don't consume the fat). I dunno about some other cities, though.
@Cstrife234 The approximate number of deer is in the millions. More deer get hit and die by cars than by hunters. Go get your bow and arrows, or a rifle and get a permit.
@Cstrife234 Hey! No, I lived in Chicago over 30 years & my family is there, voting early and often. I know how dangerous driving at night can be in the outlying areas during the Rut. Cook County is lousy with deer. The problem though, as in the Great Depression, is that a couple million people will be consumers. Not everyone hunts, but those that do will quickly realize that they can sell all the meat that they can't eat themselves. Maybe two or three seasons into the Depression.....
@mikebius My 87 year old mother lived through the great depression. She has some great stories from that era. Her mother (my grandmother) would cook possums, rabbits, squirrels etc for the family. They also relied on bartering too
@mikebius yeah, and listen to this.....my mother was one of "ELEVEN" children, no indoor toilet till she was 12, and they were not on any type of pubic asistance....my grandfather had to have alot of things going to pay the bills....he was a phographer for the county morgue, an artist, carried the US MAIL, learned watch making and taught himself to repair the fairly new technology of "radio"
Go get food stamps, and stock up. If the system is going to tank, use the system to make sure you have food. Stock up on grains, make sure they are in a cool, dry, and most important rodent/bug free area. Some mice have a illness that looks like the flu but will kill you in days called, Hantavirus. Learning how to make fire. candle making would be a nice skill, not too expensive. If you have land, get seeds and grow food. Learn how to can your food properly. Doing it wrong will kill you.
@ecocheapwebdad i know everyone blames people on food stamps and public assistance for California tanking but its just a small part. Even if we cut off everyone on food stamps, cash, housing, and medical. It would make a dent but the system will still tank. With no jobs to pay people, to pay taxes, to pay their bills, etc. It wont help complaining about welfare. So use the system that is screwing you. When it tanks, you will have more food than others. Also I have found land for 2k-3k get that 2
@aceyorba@aceyorba@aceyorba@aceyorba Its part of it, but its not the major major issue. First when you have no jobs 2 help pay for the pension systems then you start having the issues. Second you have the unions that cry and cry about low wages when they are making 20-30 hr when your average person makes 8-15 a hour. Corps go overseas cause its cheaper. Third you have 2 many people who sit on welfare.
@bigolfatguy factor in wall street fat cats making 1000's per hour when you bitch about the unions. Unions were the only thing that stood up for the little guy, they are gone
@george4title: dehydrating your own food is extremely easy, is cheaper than canned, easier to store & more healthy. You just have to learn how to rehydrate & cook with it, but it's not that hard. Food tastes just like it was frozen or canned when rehydrated.
@george4title Properly packed dry goods, rice, wheat etc have a 30 yr shelf life.
interestingly, Hormel Foods says that any of their meat products, SPAM etc, have a indefinite shelf life--although "indefinite" is a tricky word, they suggest as long as the can has not been compromised, the food is edible. Other canned goods have a shelf life of 5-10 yrs depending on the product, most are safe long after the expiration date, which is generally just a guide to optimal taste.
good info. I am not short of a $ but I rarely eat out, we grow a little food, buy from fruit/vege markets, buy no processed food and cook everthing at home.
But I worked it out that its alot cheaper for us to eat out and work those hours used to prepare food. But not healthy for the body.
What the hell does this guy consider " normal resources" to be? Food stamps??lol So many ppl are below what they consider to be " normal" that it seems hard to define what " normal " is anymore. I still believe in preparing by stocking up on guns, food , and supplies. Not going to talk me into buying a book based on the premise that you believe me to be crazy. I'll take my chances with the guns and food. Let me know how you are doing later on down the road....lol
The psychological impact on the average American will be brutal. I don't think basic food staples and shelter will be enough for many people. The job losses and home foreclosures will leave many families in ruins. When the average American starts to realize how bleak his future will be, social disorder will follow. lets see!!........ i have a choice between getting my head chop off, tortured to death in a camp, or having a bunch of mosquito bite me to death. i'll take the mountains, people please read the bible, If God is telling you to flee, that is the only person you should listen to, He is telling U everything that they are going to do to you, this is why he has to come back because if he doesn't """there will be no flesh left on this earth, it's not a joke!.

I was in Benin Africa last year. One of the most memorable things was that there were thousands and thousands of these little, cheap, mopeds.
The mopeds were used for everything, especially as taxis, as most people did not have cars.
The most we ever saw was 4 people on 1 moped, It was 2 little kids sandwiched between dad in the front and mom in the back.

Zombies are going to happen.... they just won't be what most people think of as zombies... they'll look like bums and they'll say "Change" a lot.
PatriotsRepublic 1 year ago
@PatriotsRepublic I think zombies already exist, they roam malls never making eye contact only looking at labels as if we're all sinners in the land of Abercrombie & Fich. Then again the look on some people's face as they watch the stock market tumble could be a close 2nd.
