@elcucuydesmadrugado, no 240z or 260Z models in 77- just 280Z. the 280ZX made its US debut beginning the 1979 model year. the first nissan twin-plug fours were the 1980 510 california (Z20S) and 1980 datsun 200SX california (Z20E) models. no twin-plug engines in the S10 series.....not until 1980 (S110)
Practically grew up in this car. Still had the car going to college, back in '91 and '92. Our family had a green '79 200SX. Just learned that in Japan it was known as a Silvia S10.
I've always liked the body styling, probably more so than that of the 80s 200sx. If only they didn't rust like crazy. I hope people have fixed up the cars so that they last longer, and look better.
I had a 78. It was army green and was totally rusty in three years. I remember that it had a strange gear configuration too, first gear was to the lower left and second straight up. Another feature of this car is that it beeped like a truck when in reverse.
Wow I had a blue one. My dad bought it for me in 1989. I remember he paid like 600 bucks back then. It had an automatic transmission and 40K original miles. It was a great little car. I sold it for 400 bucks in 1991 and I used that money to buy my first new car...a 1991 Nissan Sentra.
yes this car was a little cheaper for people couldn't afford the DATSUN 240Z, 260Z AND 280Z for 1977, in 1978 was 280ZX and it was more expensive than this DATSUN 200SX, in Mexico and latin-america was named DATSUN 160J SSS, it was a good car, actually it had 8 spark-plugs so this 200sx was competing against TOYOTA CELICAS, and its price was about 3 g's and the 200sx was good that actually it changed its body0style in early 80's before the ZX that changed until 84, it was reborn in mid 90's agan
I had a 1978 Datsun 200sx, thanks for the memories. I remember that it used to beep like a truck in reverse and had an odd transmission pattern, first gear was down to the left on the stick.

Those are the ugliest of the Silvia/200sx lineage. Never liked those 200sxs... the S110(next generation) looked so much better. lol

I like the 1977-79 body style of the 200sx. A neighbor of mine had one back in the '80s. I wish Nissan would bring it back with a 2010s twist.
