Todays Epiphones G-400 standard 62 sg's and the Epiphone limited Edition 50th Anniversary 1961 Reissue sg's Crap all over the Gibson models of today. For 3 years EPI has crafted the better sg's and Lp The only down with Epiphones there way under priced.
@EPI6fingers you have obviously never played a gibson sg standard "of today" i own one, the aged cherry one, and an epi g400, while a higher price doesn always mean better, in this case, the sg standard blows the g400 off the stage. i have no problem with epiphone, my first guitar was an epiphone, but you've clearly swallowed a bar of sopa cos you're chatting bubbles mate :D
I have owned Fender USA Teles, Strats, Gibby Les Paul '78 Std and many more and the guitar I will never sell and likely be buried with...my 2000 Gibson Ebony SG Standard! All the haters say unbalanced etc...best guitar ever I say!!! How can Angus be wrong?!!!
the 2010 model Epiphone G-400 62 SG IS WITH OUT ANY DOUBT! a much better all around SG than any Gibson standard SG. the 2010 epiphone G-400 62 SG was preferd over the the Gibson standard SG BY MANY PRO GUITARIST!
it has better tone/tone versatilty and a better smooth and faster neck. its a shame its no longer available.
in terms of stomps overdrive gives a dirty tone but not as dirty as distortion. an overdrive before a distortion can give the distortion more gain, thus getting more dirt. if we are talking valves, you gotta think of it like a car give it more fuel it will pull more, same with your amp, it will go from clean to crunch first, add more volume it will drive, almost dime it it will distort, the dirt comes from how hard you push the amp.
Looks awesome, can't wait to save up for one of these, think their better in ebony than heritage red or natural burst, Gibson SG's look like the shit man..
SG's sound is not as heavy as Les Paul's, but heavier than Statocaster's. It's also a very light weight. So it's very good for screaming lead tones but also good for crystal cleans...
I would disagree. SG has a more crunchy, thick sound. I've played Les Paul's and theyre pretty stagnant sounding. The body is too thick on Les Pauls, the vibrations get lost through out the body. I would put my SG up against any Les Paul.
I'll tell you right now because I just recently upgraded from a Gibson SG Specail Faded Cherry to this bad boy.
First you'll notice that the feel of the guitar is WAY different. The guitar no longer feels like hard wood but it has a soft feel to it from the quality of the paint. Then you'll notice that the fretboard also feel much MUCH different.
There are a whole lot of other features as well like the chromo humbuckers and different tone knobs. Yep. It's sweet.
wtf
