Not much of a BIG CAM. Making it idle so slow might sound like a big cam, but motor guys will know the difference...and your ever so slow idle is perfect for whacking the lobes off of the cam. Do a GOOGLE search or a YOU TUBE search for "MotorsbyShooter" and you can hear what a BIG CAM is suppose to sound like.
@MotorsbyShooter So I look at your youtube and I found an old man driving a fag ass Gold wing @ 40mph. Why don't you pull out some sack and check out my vids of a REAL motorcycle going 190mph. Of a turbo mustang tearing up the dyno. Idle is 850 RPM warm. What happens to an outdrive when you try and shift into and out of gear with a high idle? Thats right you dont know. And for everyone else out there, engine speed does not affect cam lobes. Example: any diesel engine.
@fastman1234 YOU are so full of shit. I dont care to run 190 on a motorcycle...or CLAIM to. Post a vid doing it. That motor is NOT idling at 850...tell that to a 10 year old. And if you want to race your big mustang...bring it to Fort worth...along with the title. As for shifting at a faster idle...oooo...you have a POS Alpha drive...lmfao here. Keep it idling slow dick brain...then read what Comp says about a slow idle. And FAG-ASS...hmmmmmm...you must know alot about fags...experience I guess
1. Click on my other vids you will see me going 190 on a Motorcycle.
2. I don't hang out with many 10 yr olds. But I bet they don't spend their time on Youtube insulting people.
3. The alpha outdrive is the best selling, most popular outdrive in THE WORLD
4. I'm sorry for calling you a fag. I'm not gay. Several of my friends are... (welcome to the 21st century buddy) They are more of a man than God gave you the ability to be. Their bikes are nicer than yours too. :)
@fastman1234 Like I said dude...I dont care to run my scooter or be on a scooter at 190. be safe on that thing at those speeds, but I really dont care. I do have alot of 10 year olds come to see me. They bring their bikes and what-nots for me to fix for them...not a problem at all. The Alpha drive is a good drive, but the Bravo drive is better and it is more popular than the Alpha. Check with Mercruiser on that. I also dont care if someone has a nicer or better bike than I have...mine is paid.
What is that guy talking about? I have several vehicles with comp 280s and they all sound similar to this. You have a very nice boat! MotorsbyShooter has no clue! Keep the vids coming! @fastman1234
@RDEPerformace No clue...you are a total joke by yourself. You need to stick with that Briggs & Straton engine rather then try to impress anyone with your lack of knowledge. The Comp 280 cam is a good cam, but you might talk to some REAL professional engine builders about a motor with a performance cam in it besides whine at me about something that you dont know anything about. Do a search on YOU TUBE for MotorsbyShooter or do a GOOGLE search. We race cars and boats
just a hint. that stock 305 with steel heads CANNOT flow near enough for that magnum 280 cam. but at least its in a boat and runs WOT all the time, and your not in a pos car on the street trying to sound fast with waytoo big of cam, and not being able to flow the air and fuel needed to go with it. but hey, either way, its better than stock!

a boat is like a hole in the water that you throw you money into besides isn't that thing supposed to have water pumping thru it to cool the engine and stuff just like my stupid neighbor who starts up his jet skis and revs them up and then shuts them off before they get hot disturbing me while I watch tv
Waterskis can go without water since they have metal impellers instead of rubber ones. People start them to shoot any water out of the system for storage.
Most boats have rubber raw water impellers which need water for lubrication. They can go bad running just 10 seconds dry. However you could have a hose hooked to it, or remove the belt off the waterpump and it would be fine for a few minutes until the engine got warm
@mp3mike05 removing the belt? that would only work on a bravo man. the impeller's in the outdrive on an alpha. i hope you don't think there's a rubber impeller in the water pump on the front of the engine.
Whoops sorry mine is an inboard, which does have a rubber impeller before the waterpump which is run off the belt. Forgot we were dealing with an outdrive here..
I dont' why you got deboosted . This is exactly what Merc Marine does with their engines . I am not sure of the numbers but a Mercruiser 198 (305 Gm ) uses a GM cam that has a little more duration that is very similar to the GM 350 CI with 350 HP which is conservative on the lift but , an increase in duration which one can hear at idle . They They also run 8.5 CR so you can buy fuel anywhere and to keep the engine together at wideopen throttle
Hallo fastman! A question...how much power will give your 305 after this mods? Im also an owner of a 305 mercruiser with 2bbl carb and approx 195HP...a little bit too low for a wellcraft 197XL eclipse! And how much cost this parts (carb and cam)? Im living in Switzerland and here is hard to find such items.....i will take it from the states if you have a good contact or shop! Tank you!
System worked awesome. the chamber made the engine sound deeper and lass harsh than straight open exhaust and also acted as a crossover pipe to make the exhaust sound better by reducing the popping associated with the firing order (think crappy redneck truck sound) Yet the idle and low RPM's sounded mean. I made it out of a 10 or 15 gal fuel tank and 4 inch aluminum tubing.
I used to have a small block 350 merc inboard engine like above that took up alot of room but sounded great on a 26 foot boat. I ditched this setup when I tried a four winns cuddy with a evinrude e-tec 250 outboard. Bought it that day. I never again looked back at the I/O setup. Outboards are much better on boats in this range. More power & torque, more room, less fuss, go figure.....
No drive on the boat... I can"t be damaging a water pump that isn't on the boat :) as for cooling, running an engine for 40 seconds CAN NOT begin to come close to over heating it. Thanks for the concern though.
Me, my dad and his friend went to buy edelbrock parts intake and carb for our merc 4.3L v6 made it go 40mph to 60mph man it was fast as hell for us on the 19.5ft regal boat it was fun but we had to sell it. damn, i miss going fast on boats. now, i have just an 5.5hp johnson boat engine lol
Gonna be working on a mates 50ft Sunseeker imported from US this winter. She's got 3x 5.7L Mercruiser engines (don't know models yet) running through 3x Mercruiser SIX drives!!!!
Apparently did 65mph!
And the reason I'm working on it, is the 65-0 time. -Too long.
Hit a ferry. Lol.
Starboard side partial rebuild, taking moulds from another of the same boats in Sweden.
I made it so who knows. There are kits everywhere to convert to thru-hull exhaust. I don't know of any that have a chamber or crossover like mine though... Without the canister, the stbd side would sound bad because of the engine's firing order. this can be solved 2 ways. Exit exhaust out the rear, or have a canister/crossover.
Well I have researched it out and your setup is the best route for me to go. I cant really go out the back because of the swim platform so Id like to do what you did. I already have the tips but i figure the way yours is run it would also help when you went for a turn, It would seem to prevent the water from running back into the motor. Its kinda like a balance pipe and a safety chamber in one.
I have to ask though what you started with for the cannister or did you go all the way from scratch?

Awesome job on the exhaust! Can you give me some more details on the waterlock system you got in there?
Chaosizer 2 years ago
@Chaosizer There is none. The exhaust is above the waterline on the sides. So when I slow down the wake isn't hitting them.
fastman1234 2 years ago
Don`t you water injection ? Or is it dry exhaust from the manifolds?
Chaosizer 2 years ago
@fastman1234 I would be very nervous about a big wave coming over the side when you are anchored and shooting water into the cylinders.
