Did they not tune that piano since Prokofiev's death for nostalgic reasons? Prokofiev is one of the few things Yuja plays really well, probably because I bet he arouses her. Richer's first movement is superior, but I think you're all just not being objective. Yuja maintains massive tension throughout the piece without compromising its structure. Yeah, it's more cerebral, but still dark, and 'sewing machine?' come on.
...yeah, next to Richter, it was sewing machine, but, still, it was some sewing...well, Richter, sure as hell, is not sewing, it is something else, at the very least...
Are you sure he premiered this one and that it was dedicated to him? I thought it was his 7th and 9th that he premiered, and his 9th being dedicated to Richter.
I don't have my copy of the sonaten handy, so I'm unfortunately relying on the intartubes for this hahaha.
Ok. The piano is an out of tune clunker, but in no way obscures the genius of Richter.

I love both but Richter is still my main man after 50+ years.

Some of the high keys on that piano were horribly out of tune. Only flaw in what could be considered THE reference interpretation of this piece.

I can't believe it.. people watched Yuja Wang's sewing machine rendition of this sonata way more than this artist's soulfull interpretation..
