I'm not sure but I BELIEVE X was the roman way to write Christ, so XMas might be a derogatory term, but it still has the same meaning, Christian was a term developed meant to be an insult, orriginal christians in 1st century called them selves "Followers of Christ" (This is all if I am remembering correctly)

The letters 'XP' were used by Christians back when they there being persecuted by the Roman emperor, Nero. (You can still find the letters XP carved in caves that Christians hid in) Eventually they just began using 'X'.

It comes from the Latin, Christ was written with an X and a P coming out of the top of it, we do not have this in the English language, so it was substituted with an X only. Unless you know the history of it, yes it is pointless to use an X.

Ive written a book on christmas, and actually X is the reek letter for CH, the CH for Christ, they just do that so its shortened (and we all know people like to shorten things)
