i have one question and please help me with it: both my left and right blades are kind of popping out, so i don't if they're winged. i can control it and make it wing out when i want to, ever since i was a kid. but i thought that it might be damaging so i stopped doing that long ago. I don't feel anything, no pain, nothing. it's just annoying to have my shoulder blades popping out because it looks weird when i wear shirts.
If you get this on one shoulder only, from a sudden overhead movement/pulling/straining, is it likely to be temporary, once the muscles heal and strengthen from the injury?
I have winged right scapula. My right shoulder is also internally rotated. I guess this is a legacy of my time in the college boxing team. I had been doing simple shoulder stretches for the past few weeks. I will try these exercises soon. I hope they work for me.
just been diagnosed with this, been causing loads of pain and frozen shoulder...these exercises are just what I need , thanks for posting much appreciated! will let you know how i get on....
@chsfootballgirl same thing as my schools physical trainer and doctor said. they said its probobly long thoratic nerve damage. they said the muscle isnt working as it should or as much as it should. they said my right side might not be able to be fixed. any advice? (this is very long im sorry for all the "they said(s)"
Thank you thank you thank you.....after 5 years of pain (intial injury from heavy dead lifts) and visits to chiro, physio and RMT....my phsio did mention my scap stuck out but never mentioned winged scap on the right side and never gave me the proper exercises.......perhaps I can finally get some relief.
Thank you for the quick and thorough response. I was really worried about what might happen but I feel as though a tremendous weight has been lifted off my shoulders ;)
Exercises, repeat 12-15 times. For stretches, hold for 30 seconds, 3-5 times on each side. I wouldn't do them every day; 2-3 times a week should suffice.
The winging will go away eventually as you strengthen your serratus anterior and stretch your pectoralis minor. It seems to me that some people are more susceptible to this problem than others, though, so maybe some physiologies are predisposed to it.
i reccomend you check out the "Neanderthal No More" articles on T-Nation. Just google it. It is entirely about your posture and how to correct it. It explains what causes those problems, the effects of those problems, and the solution to those problems.
my shoulder started hurting because i used to be able to move my shoulder in a way that it would crack.. and it looks like a winged scapula, but everyone tells me i'm just making it up. but i keep telling them; "i cant fake pain."
again, this started because i was cracking my left shoulder all the time, like at least 150 times a day. i dont intentionally crack it anymore, but when i do a simple movement like reaching for a remote, it will crack
So this can help get rid of that snapping grinding around shoulder blade trap area?

I've had winged scapula since I was a child. Do you know if these exercises only work if the injury was recent?

@sithhill Means the muscular imbalance is worse on the R, probably because (I'm guessing) you're right-handed.

Oh, sorry, but how long should I do each exercise for?

Awesome! Very helpful video!
I think I have Winged Scapula, it doesn't hurt (yet) but I don't like the look of it.
Does the "winging" ever go away?
And if I do this everyday, how long will it take for it to start disappearing?
