I live where fish collecting is done. It is cruel, they break coral, they trim fins, check out forthefishesdotorg. It's not my site but it tells alot. Look up Vanuatu fish collecting on youtube. It is decimating the oceans, at an alarming rate. Have you ever seen a fish in the ocean, it's a beautiful sight. In a tank it's just a prison. Some fish are so rare where I live that some have never been seen because they have all been collected for tanks where they can never replenish themselves.
@forthefishes guess what, no one cares, eventually tissue culture labs and more succesful breeders will be forced to help equal out the populations, if in 20 years our civilization can't stabilize the animals that make up half the biodiversity in the world, than even without tanks, we'd probably doom the world in some other way. ease down, when one problem is solved, another is started
@forthefishes Hey, I was adiment on this too, but until you actually keep a marine fish tank, you can't really bash it, aquarists are always concious of the fact most saltwater fish are taken from the wild, unlike their freshwater counterparts, and this is why it is so much more considered a more cautious hobby. Fishkeepers are always trying to find new ways to breed, reproduce and research the fish they share their day to day lives with.
these angels are so beautiful, but only one problem, while they are in aquariams you can't keep anemoons or other similar invertibrates.. angels wil distroy them or nip them. i realised when i had couple of angels in my tank.and the distroyed my cute looking button polyps.. :(
any way on the other hand.. these angels are very hardy fish..you can also feed them by hand.. ;)
@justchata what is the salinity ratio for one of these??? can I put it with my clown fish, purple tang, and sailfin tang?. ratio right now is 0.05. fish are all healthy and No complaints other then a nasty bristle worm:(
my stepdad purchased it. he only paid $100 for it. It was a banded cat shark (isn't that another name for a bamboo shark) Actually tank is kinda of small. 75 gallons i believe. It is kinda shaped like a half moon that fits in the corner.
if memory serves me correct, he was in the tank for only a week. I also had a bamboo shark egg. This lasted about a month then out of no where, our chocolate chip starfish ate it. That is a good idea about the strainer and rock
Hell if i know, i remember having to take a piss and i looked at the tank before i went. I get out and the anemone looked funky and lo and behold, the majestic angelfish is paralyzed in the center off it.
i talked to my dealer today and he says that its not uncommon. he told me that when adding new fish if u put a strainer over the anemone and put a rock on top of the strainer for a couple days this wont happen.was ur majestic a new addition?

Not cool. Coral reefs are being decimated by fish collecting for aquariums!
