yeah this song is very much about death. a little history for you, the ace of spades in medevial europe the ace of spades was the card that had the mark on it of the maker, if your ace was lacking that mark they were seen as counterfeit and you were hung. hence its nickname "the death card". the song is titled essentially "The Death Card" it is about gambeling as a meophor for life and you never win all the time, so you have to die eventually "and i dont wanna live forever". so not atypical

The speed of the original version is awesome, but I enjoy this song. It puts a different spin that works, in my opinion anyway. Obviously this cover lacks the headbang factor, but it's a great cover to just space out to like a lot of Bathory's tracks. I understand what you're saying, though. Merely a difference of tastes.

I like Bathory, this isn't the problem.

But you can't do a cover of a song that draw power of the rock'n roll spirit and removing its strength (the rock 'n roll). It's not a tribute it's a disgrace : they show they don't understand anything to Motorhead.

If they truly wanted to do some tribute, they could do mix some rock 'n roll with their style, like Darkthrone's FOAD.

One problem with that. Darkthrone's recent albums have been a mixture of Black Metal and Punk.

This cover may have been more like the original if it was done earlier in their career. Say, around the second or third album of Bathory's. But, it was done later in their career when they played Folk/Thrash. More emphasis on the Folk.

I think it's very fitting the Quorthon style. A cover shouldn't be a replica if you ask me.. I think that leaving individual marks in a cover is okay if and I personally love what he did to this one.. Apart from the fact that "Ace of Spades" was one of the most commercial numbers Motörhead ever made, the slow black metal touch just makes me appreciate how Bathory could personalize a number by a different artist.
