@carstenhdk Thanks. yes we studied real ones and drawings we collected from the web. i seem to remember that full line drawings were available from Spierings cranes... but that is years ago.
@ NXTLiftBoy I figured it out all you need is a variable that reads then a variable that writes then a math block and a number to text block take the data wire from the num to txt to a screen and have it reset
nice bot. Hey I have a question I have a lego mindstorms nxt and I designed my own crane and I want it to be able to count how many loads it has moved do you have any ideas on how I could do this? I know I will at least need a variable, a number to text block, and a display of course so it could out put the number to the screen. Thanks and please reply
@Prancingwolf7 Thx for your comment. No promises, guess what, i took it apart long ago! Not to worry though, anyone can rebuild it from the instructions/photos we took :) See my home page at mocpages, i am called "NXT Liftboy" there, and follow the links for this model.
when u got it did anything pop up saying anything about stolen money, bank account, credit card items, or personal files? or any questions on shipping problems?
As is now well-hidden in the other replies, i earlier wrote this:
Please do not be fooled by the vid that it would unfold at the touch of a button, typically the ropes need some disentangling, and unfolding the jib requires manual intervention too...
wow i made one too 2meters high and 2,5meters long XD , but unfortently it ............................... crashed up and broke the tower XD but vid 5/5
if you like i could send you all technical information on spierings from an engineers view but im glad to hear that. But i spent a month in holland at the factory learning about them as im a mechanic in north wales for bryn thomas and id love to go back look fprward to hearing back from you
Yes, you heard that right, there *is* a lot of strain on the motor. The motor handles it allright, having high-speed with little force, but behind the two worm wheels it gets nasty, with very little speed and very big forces!
At times I feared the main axis would break, but we were lucky there i guess...
I really did not keep count of the hours, but i'd guess maybe a 100 or two manhours or so? Particularly hard to estimate because elapsed time ran in the 4+ months, and me and Techno worked on it every now and then. At some point we left it for weeks at a row, since we were not really satisfied with some solution and got stuck several times. I am glad people tend to like it after all :)
For more info, just follow the "more info" link of this vid! It leads to mocpages with background info AND a link to the instructions, or better: a slideshow on photobucket.
If you've got both sets (telescopic crane and bulldozer) you have all parts i think. I'd be curious to hear from any re-build!

HEY DUDE THAT IS REALLY AWSOME, BUT I HAVE A QUESTION
IS THE CRANE UNFOLDING PROCESS FULLY AUTO (NO NECCESITY IN HUMAN TOUCH)? IF TI IS I THINK IT WILL BE 10 TIME COOLER.
rockntroopen 1 year ago
@rockntroopen I cannot say it is truly auto, as you need to disentangle ropes etcetera. see mocpages and earlier comments for more info.

@themariokartcheater thx for your comment and question.
Hard to tell how to do that. I guess you need a loop in the NXT-G program, and increment the variable before you display it?
i once added a delay after the loop was complete, to have time to read the final count from display.

were did ya get it? im a lego freak i build tons of stuff out of legos then i paint them
jswopey206 1 year ago
@jswopey206 as described elsewhere, it was designed by Techno Moves and me, form using two LEGO sets, plus an additional 32L long axle.

gooosonic 1 year ago
how many pieces?
gooosonic 1 year ago
I did not count.
Upper limit is the ones from both sets plus one for the second laong axle we used.
So it must be less than 3269 (= 1884 + 1384 + 1)
Not that many, really?

lotharvel 2 years ago
thats so cool! is it all proportional to the liebherr? or is it just a rough match?
bobebobebob 2 years ago
unfolded it is proportional, but to be honest the folding mechanism differs as the real one is MUCH more complex and requires several more motors.
thanks for your comment!

Interesting, i considered Spierings too when picking a model to rebuild.
I am very interested in obtaining the technical drawings for a Spierings.
We may be tempted to try rebuilding a Spierings...
Realistically though, there are so many other projects to work on, and so little time... :)

Wow very nice. It sounds like you're putting a LOT of strain on the motor when the crane first starts lifting though.
