I definitely had her, still do (but she's in terrible condition). I never really liked the jointed barbies much though, because they only looked good if you kept them in their original outfits. Yeah they were fun to play with, but you couldn't dress them up in any other cute clothes.

In 1993 the Czech people made basically the SAME doll except she wasn't an Olympic gymnast,and their uniforms were different.

The commercial is on here somewhere-but that doll is different because she doesn't have the ring-thingy.

It's also kind of clear why they would only sell this Gymnast Barbie in the US-it's main selling point was the tie-in with the US Olympic Gymnastics Team (that won the Team Gold that year and made every girl want to be a gymnast)

Thank you for putting this ad up. I am going to use it as an example in my kids and advertising ethics paper of how fantasy action can confuse children; clearly the doll itself is nothing like the CGI Barbie in the beginning of the commerical.
