@Eyeless327 Bruce definitely is. I'm not denying that Rob is a legendary singer. He's really good. He's done an excellent job in Painkiller, Angel of Retribution, British Steel, etc. I'm just saying if I had to pick 3 of the best singers in metal, I'd first pick Bruce, then I'd pick Rob, then Ozzy.

I haven't listened to Dio, I think I will though. Everyone's saying how ridiculously awesome he is in the power metal scene. Then I may replace Ozzy with Dio, we'll see.

Those just... flat out suck in my opinion. It's all breakdowns and pig squeals. Most of those modern day bands are of those 2 genres.
@crofold I can tolerate some metalcore, but most of it is very predictable - Scream verse, clean chorus, scream verse, clean chorus, breakdown, scream chorus. BORING
@89Wrathchild Yeah, its so predictable. You can just see the breakdown coming. The only metalcore band I like is Bullet for my Valentine cause at least they incorporate some solos in their music, and Matt doesn't gutturally scream all the lyrics. Though Padge and Jay scream quite a bit too. But yeah, generally, those core bands are just horrible. Now, stuff like Blind Guardian is awesome, cause they're power metal mixed with some progressive and they scream from the diaphragm, not the throat.

Stuff like BMTH, I don't know for a fact, but I can just about guarantee their only fans are 15 year old scene girls. Anyway, Bullet are good. I heard some other metalcore songs from full throttle metalcore bands, I just can't take it. Too much ridiculous screaming and breakdowns.

As predicted upon listening to this disc a half a dozen times,I like it quite a bit. I stated in some previous posts that I wish Maiden would return to their classic sound. And while I wish they would make another disc reminiscent of their old sound(N.O.T.B,P.O.M,Powerslave etc) I do like the epic feel & music on here. Part of me misses the more melodic songs of the past & Bruce's more operatic vocals,but Maiden has matured I suppose & the songs on here are solid & pretty damn cool.

This is the best one I'd say, but they've lost there edge =/ where's that bite that maiden use too have even on a matter of life and death? it doesn't seem as creative as they used too be and they've gone more ballad than amazing riffs!
@xIronWarlordx I fully agree mate. After a few times it just keeps sounding better, and you get a better appreciation for the multiple layers of each song. Fantastic stuff.
My money's on the band taking "a break" after this album. I've listened to a few of the other tracks and they share that epic, storytelling feel that Harry loves, which if you know the band, means Bruce and H are not doing as much of the song writing. With them less involved, the guys will take some time off to get fresh again and do some solo work/side projects. That's why "New Frontier" sounded so good and "Final Frontier" has a sort of tired feel to it. Remember why Bruce left the first time.
@ cgiancol If you'd just check the songwriting credits, you'd see that while Harry had a hand in every song, Adrian is also given credit on all but a few, and Bruce helped write four of the ten. That's not so bad, and it's not the first time Steve has received credit for every song on an album, so that's nothing to really worry about. If anything, Bruce is more involved with the band than ever, what with flying the plane for them.

This album had me slightly confused. Don't get me wrong, I love it, it's just quite strange in the way that it sounds new and different, yet there is still that classic maiden feel to it. Using drop d and some chuggy notes obviously makes it sound heavier, but there is still all the gallop picking and typical Murray solos which make it sound great. Give me the soundtrack and I would still know it's Maiden. Altogether, great album. I wouldn't go to far, however, it isn't their best.

I haven't seen the album liner notes, but the songs that I've heard from this album seem very Harris-influenced: long, structured, somewhat repetitive, vocal melodies are circumscribed. I can imagine it's very difficult to keep coming up with new things to say musically when you're so tied to a genre. If one day Dave Murray came up with a smokin' blues song, could Maiden release it on an album? No. The new material tweaks the guitar tone, has new solos, new choruses, but it's the same 'ol Maiden

Best song on Maiden's worst album of the decade. And now my lovely kids: long doesn't mean progressive, progressive doesn't mean boring. It would be better if the tracks were shorter cause they are too simple (not all of them ofc). Dickinson's voice is not in the pink of condition. The album is not coherent which doesn't mean it's diverse. Well it's not. The strong point of the album is the great solos. While thumbing down remember it's just an opinion. Up the Irons!

the album is different but still delivers the needed greatness for Maidenfans.

This album had me slightly confused. Don't get me wrong, I love it, it's just quite strange in the way that it sounds new and different, yet there is still that classic maiden feel to it. Using drop d and some chuggy notes obviously makes it sound heavier, but there is still all the gallop picking and typical Murray solos which make it sound great. Give me the soundtrack and I would still know it's Maiden. Altogether, great album. I wouldn't go to far, however, it isn't their best.

I haven't seen the album liner notes, but the songs that I've heard from this album seem very Harris-influenced: long, structured, somewhat repetitive, vocal melodies are circumscribed. I can imagine it's very difficult to keep coming up with new things to say musically when you're so tied to a genre. If one day Dave Murray came up with a smokin' blues song, could Maiden release it on an album? No. The new material tweaks the guitar tone, has new solos, new choruses, but it's the same 'ol Maiden

Best song on Maiden's worst album of the decade. And now my lovely kids: long doesn't mean progressive, progressive doesn't mean boring. It would be better if the tracks were shorter cause they are too simple (not all of them ofc). Dickinson's voice is not in the pink of condition. The album is not coherent which doesn't mean it's diverse. Well it's not. The strong point of the album is the great solos. While thumbing down remember it's just an opinion. Up the Irons!
