Interesting that Bruce plays guitar and harminica together here and thousands pay to see him.If he bothered to strap a pair of cymbals between his knees, people would cross the street just to avoid him...
@lelobest FYI...he tried to enlist and did not pass physical at the time....Just because he was not in NAM as you say does not mean he is not more of a patriot that you could ever be....money or no money...much more clever than your words could ever be about him. Do you even KNOW who you are talking about...go find Bieber or GaGa...let Bruce be...you won't be missed by the rest of us...that's for sure.
@Deneised Yes I know about Bruce I saw him 4 times in concert. But why you say he is a patriot? because he likes Obama? Because he hates Bush? In the 80s by the way he kept quiet about Regan because he knew at the time he would have backfired but now is the time to come out as a liberal. He is a clever businessman Bruce, nothing wrong with that, just a fact. And by the way Bruce did not try to enlist, he had to take the physical.
@lelobest He did not enlist at the time because EVERYONE HAD to take a physical....the draft was still in place. I personally, know the entire story from that time. I can tell the way you speak that you most likely are not American and I do not think you know anything about Bruce and/or how he feels about his country. He is a genius with words and music....you should listen harder.
@Deneised You can tell by the way I speak or by the way I write? Most likely by the way I write, considering that I did not talk to you! Anyway I am not American but Italian and... so? Should only Americans understand Walt Witman, for example or only French understand Flaubert or Germans Goethe? Bruce is half Italian so I guess I can understand 50% of what he says, according to your theory!
what a song. what a legend. makes the hairs on the back of the neck stand on end. i could watch this every day. monsier boss ~ we salute you. the geatest song ~ by the greatest artist. simply phenomenal.
A profoundly great song about the nobility of human existence despite all that is against us. Though set in the American context, is song for and about all humanity. My god, this is a real artist in his full flower. Thank-you so much, Bruce!
This is my favorite version of this song,it'sbeen awhile since i heard it ,there are so many versions i could'nt remember which one i was looking for.
when he got back with the band in '95 and produced this song i knew they had a lot left in them, the rising and magic, song for song belong with the stuff from '73-'87,i'm not saying it's as good as born to run or darkness but it's in that ballpark,in my non music playing opinion.
what amazes me about this video is that he takes the harmonica out of the holder with one hand while still sounding great singing--has anybody ever tried to take a harmonica out of one of those things?? its not easy with two hands!! i always have to hold the harmonica in my mouth and pull down on the springs that hold it in with both my hands haha.
What's amazing about Springsteen is that he could have released this in 1975 or 2005 and you wouldn't be able to date it. He is one of our few living timeless rock and roll stars. He might be the only one. Plus, a song this great would never have been left off an album by anyone with less talent or a thinner body of work. He has so much ammo.
Furthermore, the goatee is a Bruce staple of the '95 era. In 2002, Bruce had short hair and relatively no facial hair, except the odd bit of stubble... if you really want to get into details. But, hey, you seem pretty adamant on your ludicrous claims.
Wow, iric18. You obviously have no idea what you're talking about. You should also look at your own ridiculous comments before accusing others of not being real Bruce fans. This video is of the version recorded in 1995 for the greatest hits package, EXACTLY identical. Bruce recorded another version of this song many years before '95, which appears on the "Tracks" box set. There was no 2002 "Blood Brothers" album. Sorry. "The Rising" was released in 2002. You are clearly 100% clueless. Thanks.
haha good work bangerang, ya who the hell has heard of a blood brothers bruce album? i know he wouldnt want to see people arguing over his music.. but you are clueless about this topic apparently, so dont accuse other people of not being a true boss fan, and about the goatee, you are again 100 percent correct, even if you didnt know that for a fact, you should be able to tell it is the mid 90s, look at bruce's face and u can see how old he is, he barely looks the same for too long in my opinion.
have you heard the '95 version? its too different, even the lyrics are not the same with what is being played here.. it has been revised in 2002 when they made the "blood brothers" album.. if you have watched it, you'll see how they changed some of the lyrics and some tones of the song.. you can even see Nils with his 'damaged goods' hair.
definitely, you're not a true springsteen fan. ciao!!
there is no "Blood Brothers" album. "Blood Brothers" is a DVD documentary that chronicles the recording sessions for new songs that were included on the Greatest Hits album -- in 1995. Maybe you didn't see it until 2002, iric18, but that's not when it came out.
Bruce's perhaps best song NOT on an album. Perhaps it can found on a Greatest Hits compilation. (ie..one can find it there on a jukebox.) As it stands..this inspring song is not on any of his "release" albums. (ie Nebraska, Born to Run, etc) Sad, but true.
What can you say...the best..the dream...the hope. From closed factories to the disposessed sleeping under the bridge. This song carries it all. To sleep..perchance to dream. Thank you Bruce..for inspiration..for energy..for Love!!
he is the best
