i loved watching richter play, i wasnt a ranger fan really but when richter was playing i was watching when i could, and that play at 5:35 where he bounces the puck away without gloves i remember watching that and screaming in awe, he was amazing shame concussions ended his career, he was talented

If the rangers win 3 stanley cups with Lundqvist, do you still say the same thing? Lundqvist has played just about 4 seasons, Richter played a career here. Not really fair to judge yet.
If he wins 3 stanley cups, it might change....but richter brought the cup to NY after 54 years....and he will always be my favorite goalie no matter how much i like lundqvist.

i know mike richter personally. he coaches at the skating club that i go to, and he is a member. i hang out with his son tommy a lot. he is so humble about what he does and what he did.

Brodeur might be good, but he'll never play with the same grace and class as Richter. Richter conducted himself like a Ranger on and off the ice, whereas Marty, well, he's a devil on and off the ice. Richter was so many little kids' hero, myself included. Brodeur left his wife for his sister-in-law. He's undeniably a good goalie, but Richter was the greatest. Once a Ranger, always a Ranger! And he's one we'll never forget. Go Richter!

But show some respect - and some class. Richter is arguably the greatest American-born Goaltender in the history of the game. He was a solid goalie - maybe not as incredible as Brodeur, but one of the best in his generation.
Also, Richter was one of the most acrobatic, big-game goalie in the game. He came up big when his team needed him to (See: 2002 Winter Olympics, 1996 World Cup, 1994 Stanley Cup). He faced 11 penalty shots in his career - and he only allowed 1 goal. He also had Pavel Bure's number, arguably the most dynamic breakaway/penalty shot player ever.
I respect Brodeur and think he's great, but Richter was the real deal for New York.

as a life long devils fan i give this guy props. broduer #1, but richter was a class act and good for usa hockey. i miss the old broduer vs richter games.... all these current rags who can only talk about henry now is just embarassing, richter was ur class goalie not lundqvist.

Best one on one goalie of all time! He never let in a penalty shot and I dont remember him letting in any breakaways either!

Brodeur will go down as the greatest goalie to have played in the NHL. But even as a devils fan growing with number 35 as my favorite player and idol, he will always be the greatest american goalie to ever put on pads. If not for him no world cup, no medal at all in 02 and no cup in 94. Ranger fans will always say that #32 guy, but mikey was and always will be the man. This from a 25+ year devils fan.

The ONLY reason he may over take him as the most winning est goalie is because of the no Ties rules...which would have givin Roy another 60wins..minimum..
Brodeur will never win another cup, or another trophy of any kind..

Put the ranger fruit punch aside for now and talk like a hockey fan. Even if there were ties marty would be breaking the record next season then. Plus Roy never had to deal with a full season lost. And please dont respond with marty had the greatest D infront. Cuz the rangers the past 3 years have been the best shot blocking team and all around sound defensive teams in the NHL. Lets not change childesh barbs. Respect this video of number 35

Of course Richter was an awesome goalie...there used to be many greats...now it seems they come n go fast and never have long term deals...Patrick Roy has always been my fav...for the Habs and the Avs..played some amazing games..so did all of the 90's champ goalies...just seems many of them now are going to be easily forgettable hah, i duno, either way Richter was great, and Carey PRICE is going to the Allstar game, and then the STANLEY CUP FINALS!!!!!

with the TEAM defense and support marty had over the years thats why his stats are so good..richter coulda done the same...richter worked so hard and had so much heart..he made him self the ultimate professoinal...marty just whines and the NHL sucks his dick cuz he canadian..Richter is the best american goalie ever and one of the greatest and most outstanding NHL players of all time

I live in Philly, but ever since Richter's retirment. I have been a pens fan since that day.
Roy, and Broduer are the greats no doubt about that.
Something about Mike Richter he had so much heart when he played. Always grateful of his fans. Just a great all around player.
He was the reason why I first started liking NYC when I was a little kid in the early 90s, and then NYC won the cup and I was super happy.

I stopped counting how many times Richter owns Bure in this video haha !! I cant stand the Rangers , but Richter is the man ! By far the best American Goalie ever and one of the all time greats

Brodeur might be good, but he'll never play with the same grace and class as Richter. Richter conducted himself like a Ranger on and off the ice, whereas Marty, well, he's a devil on and off the ice. Richter was so many little kids' hero, myself included. Brodeur left his wife for his sister-in-law. He's undeniably a good goalie, but Richter was the greatest. Once a Ranger, always a Ranger! And he's one we'll never forget. Go Richter!

dude...you can't deny how good Brodeur is - the numbers he produces are incredible.
But show some respect - and some class. Richter is arguably the greatest American-born Goaltender in the history of the game. He was a solid goalie - maybe not as incredible as Brodeur, but one of the best in his generation.

Also, Richter was one of the most acrobatic, big-game goalie in the game. He came up big when his team needed him to (See: 2002 Winter Olympics, 1996 World Cup, 1994 Stanley Cup). He faced 11 penalty shots in his career - and he only allowed 1 goal. He also had Pavel Bure's number, arguably the most dynamic breakaway/penalty shot player ever.
I respect Brodeur and think he's great, but Richter was the real deal for New York.
