My middle finger is touching the hand part, and the other finger has like half centimeter space. And IMO it feels good in hand but have I just been used to too small grip size? It's 3/8.
@LukeSleaa Never too late, I started playing when I was almost 20. I didn't even play consistently, and I'd say I'm a pretty decent tennis player now. Just turned 27 I'd say I'm a 3.5, and that's with taking 6 month breaks away from tennis year to year. I'll post some tennis videos soon when I get a decent cam.
Cool, finally i managed to find a vid which shows you how to measure your grip size using a ruler. Buying a racket online is cheapest and grip sizes are shown in inches. Thanks for the vid dude
@iamachampion98 actually starting next year I believe USTA is requiring juniors 12 and under to play on smaller courts with junior racquets, so yes if you're playing USTA. If not, just base it on your hand size.
My hand measures 4", but I use a grip size of 5-5/8, which according to the first method he showed works just right. When I measure the circumference of the grip itself with a piece of string, it measures 5". So I am entirely confused. I conclude that there is a conspiracy going on to not allow people select the right size grip for their hand, so those with the secret knowledge remain at an advantage.
the length of my hand is about 16 centimeters long and the width is about 9 -10 centimeters, what size should i get (by the way i am getting the babolat aeropro raquet) THANKS
wow... i didn't know abou this...i was amazed... happy to know that you guys help inform us.... youtube is really a very helpful gate for learning... keep posting you young goodlooking asian american man.... thanks a lot...
Im a beginning tennis player, and my grip size is too small. Could i just wrap grip tape around the grip to make it big enough for me to use comfortably? Holding the racket continental style my ring and middle fingers almost touch my palm. Playing with it is starting to make my hand hurt.
hey, derrick (i think you said) that was a pretty damn well put together and informational tutorial, nice work with that, i might in fact be using a slightly too large of a grip...thanks dude!
doing the hand with rule method, rank as an l5 4 5/8. From experience, my serve and game suffered for about 2 plus weeks because i thought that was right. I have been moving my way closer to the 4 3/8 size grips. from tw 4 1/2 works perfect but is definately a maximum. I am enjoying working my way smaller. we will see. My recomendation is to go smaller! you will have a better touch.
When I use the ruler method I get that my hand is 5 1/4... I don't think they even make larger than 4 5/8. I use a 4 3/8 racquet and I sometimes wrap 3 overgrips to make it 4 5/8 but strangely my strokes are much better with the 4 3/8 than when I make it larger.
Federer says the small grip size makes swings faster and easier to finish
@305Andyy305 no he use's L3 and 80% of pros do as well. Even Ancic who's 2 meters tall and his grip size probably measures about L7 uses L2. A smaller grip size allows more wrist action and wrist pronation on serve
Hmm well now that you think about it. It's hard to say since your concept of wiggle room and how much of it is hard to determine. I would generally get the larger one since our hands shouldn't be shrinking. But then again if the smaller one feels better get that and if u ever have to just add an overgrip and your all good.
heyy i need helppp. i am a 14 year old kid looking for a racket. i am pretty good and i want an adult racket, but the problem is that my hand is sooo freakin small.i measured and got 4 but im thinking about getting a 4 1/8 racket because jr rackets suck. Do you have any recomendations for rackets???
Do you mean 4"? Because that's junior racquet size, and performance racquets are rarely made in that size. You probably need a 4 1/8 or 4 1/4. It's actually very tough to go down in grip sizes, which is why it's always recommended that you buy smaller to be safe. Shrinking it down would involve shaving the handle, which could also ruin the balance of the racquet. I would not recommend attempting that...
Well, first, there is no 4 3/4 grip size available, so the closest you can get is 4 5/8. But remember, using a smaller grip isn't a bad thing (Nadal for example uses a 4 1/4 to generate more top spin). If you find that it feels awkward, though, then yes, you should wrap an extra overgrip or two around to make it thicker.
I used the second method you mentioned (the ruler, and I found out my grip size is 4 3/4 inches. My racquet grip size it 4 1/2 inches. Will the 1/4 inch difference bother me? Also will wrapping more grip tape around the handle be better, or would that just feel strange. Any suggestions/opinions?
thanks for yoy answer but there is a problem, I live in peru and here isn´t where to find tournagrips. do you think a babolat syntec overgrip or a babolat vs original overgrip work fine? also i´m gonna buy the leather grip as you recommend.
The Babolat Pro Team overgrip probably comes closest to the tournagrip (soft and dry). The Syntec overgrip has a tacky feel, and I believe it's about the same thickness as the Pro Team overgrip, so it's really a matter of preference.
i have one question. i have a liquidmetal mp racquet with L3 grip (4 3/8) and is too small for me, the perfect size is by adding one grip and 2 or 3 overgrips. but i want to feel the ball, so i dont know what grip and overgrips to put, and also y want the grip to be plain as pros use. what grips and overgrips doyou recommend me? Preferably babotat please, thanks
If you want more feel, try to avoid the more cushioned grips and overgrips. You might want to consider a Babolat leather grip plus a couple Tourna-grips (the blue ones that Pete Sampras used to use). That way your grip won't end up feeling squishy.
Thanks so much, I'm italian but I understood the video and the method.
I actually always bought L3 (4 3/8) racquets but I just noticed I need an L4 (4 1/2).
I hope after this my game will be improved!

Optimistiqe 1 year ago
If you go by the "wiggle room" you have on the continental grip, you'll get a raquet grip that is way too big.
