  • the green lightsaber looks much better ;)

  • Also making this is irrelevant, luke has a blue lightsaber in the ROTJ original trailer

  • Lol # "Copyright 2009 davnes007"

You didn't copyright this, and you couldn't even if you wanted to.

  • actually, it makes sense his lightsaber have a green blade. the blue blade was on his hand me down hilt and his new hilt very likely had a different crystal in it. besides, it shows its his own construct, not a copy. one thing i noticed. at 02:08, vader could have *so* disemboweled him. then again, both left openings that could have been exploited at one point or another during the fight. sorry lol, such things from the perspective of a student of eastern sword techniques.

  • I actually prefer green in this film >_>

  • Green is so much better

  • nice but you made a mistake it says ''Revenge of the jedi'' in the beginnig

  • @Ilikedogstheycanfly -- Did you read the description?

  • @Ilikedogstheycanfly that's actually what the movie was originally titled before they decided something like Revenge didn't seem very jedi-like lol

  • @Ilikedogstheycanfly It was origanally that title

  • The real reason George Lucas changed it to green was to show it was a different lightsaber than the one he lost in Empire

  • revenge of the jedi?

  • hmm y is the blue glow blended wrongly with the scene's brightness... this glow should always be done with addictive blending and the pixels behind the glow should be added onto the blue, not blended just like a normal alpha blend..

  • @thrawn80 -- That's one of the drawbacks with ChromaKey, I guess.

  • @davnes007 icic... but hey... it's still nice work alright :)

  • ...And that's why it's green.

  • pretty good

  • i just noticed these are the ONLY scenes where luke actually has his lightsaber out in return of the jedi...

  • And then, Green was bornt....

  • Great job. If time permits can you do Luke with a yellow lightsaber in A New Hope? That was the color of the original action figure.

  • 0:21 Luke's face.

  • Like it, but somehow I always associated the green lightsaber with Luke finally becoming a Jedi and "constructing" his own lightsaber rather than using his Dad's.

  • Nice. Really cool edit

  • the original trailer used blue.

  • They could have just made it a dark blue instead of the light blue when they put it together, being that he made a new lightsaber it could've worked

  • i wanna bang 1983 leia

  • Nice job, but green is so much more badass than blue.

  • nice job

  • Luca$ will now alter the sarlacc pit sequence to take place during the night and change all non-blue Jedi lightsabers throughout the saga to blue to fit his original vision.

  • IF you look closely at 0:43, you can see the light saber turn back to green.

  • @judgesunshine -- Whenever a part of the saber blade is over sand, the color is pale green.

    It's not really a 'mistake' - It's a limitation of the technique I used.

  • @judgesunshine

    I noticed that easily!

  • I prefer his green lightsaber

  • lol that'll be an exclusive change to the 3d version

  • You should fix the crap lightsaber effects in the original movie. I'm surprised that Lucas hasn't already. The guy must be blind.

  • @Snapscape he is blind. he too busy screwing shit to ruin the movies.

  • @Snapscape and people wonder why Lucas makes the retarded and unnecessary edits.

it's because of slack-jawed retards like you who only appreciate something if it looks shiny and up to date.

  • @Lostprophetzzz Yeah, I heard fans screaming for Lucas to give the Sarlacc a penis. I heard them begging for Greedo to shoot first and for Han to have a pointless conversation with Jabba in the hangar. They were practically tearing down the Skywalker Ranch for Lucas to add "Nooooooooooooooo!" to Vader's dialogue. Sorry moron, Lucas had done NONE of the edits people have been asking for. Continuity is what they want, not a fucking remake. Idiot.

  • @Snapscape no. it's people like you who want lucas to update things which didn't need updating. the lightsaber effects are fine. but pricks like you look at the glass half-empty and that's what inspires lucas to make the retarded changes.

  • @Lostprophetzzz Dumbass, Lucas has been making changes to Star Wars since it's release and no one was asking for them. Do you think "A New Hope" was the original title? He added that before the release of Empire. Now he just makes changes to give people a reason to buy their ten billionth version of the series. And if you think those black bars on the lightsaber matting are fine then you must be blind, like Lucas.

  • Just wondering, what program did you use to edit the color of the lightsaber?

  • @BenjaminJSullivan -- Sony Vegas.

  • Pressing 9 is fun. :)

  • Well/.blue lightsaber is awesome but it is not perfect here.I mean...look in first five second after Luke turned it on you can see green lightsaber with blue on it.Attentively

  • Fan made crap

  • @bseven54 -- I aim to please. ;)

  • @davnes007 I thought it was pretty good, I like the luke vs vader fight, shows more who on the good side and dark side

  • @bseven54

    LOL! brutal honesty ftw!

  • @bseven54 i dont think you could do better

  • why would vader scream when his arm was fuckin robotic? haha. but... i guess i would be wierd if he got sliced and made no emotion.

  • This would be perfect with a red lightsaber. First you see Luke slaughtering people with it, then you end at the scene where he nearly decided to kill Vader; with red it can look like he turned to the Dark Side!

  • Lightsaber's generally tempered a Jedi's force personality as in KOTOR and other SW mediums. during ANH & ESB, he was more of a Jedi Guardian, but in ROTJ he started to focus more on the spiritual side of the force like that of a Consular.

  • green is way better, am i the only one that thinks its more cool to watch only the original versions compared to the special edition?

  • @witchcraftlord -- No, you're not the only one. :)

  • @davnes007 I found all 3 classic films on dvd with a bonus disk for the original versions,

  • @witchcraftlord Oh god no. . . don't worry sir, you fall into a vast majority lol

  • @witchcraftlord Not at all, I'm talking with a girl and she's never seen star wars. I will show her the original star wars trilogy and only that.

  • @AlgorithmicCrane thats awesome, the original trilogy was so important in my childhood, and still is,

  • Problem with this is, the blue halo isn't true light anymore. It's now more of a matt.

  • it just doesnt look the same

  • it's so easy for someone to make the lightsaber blue in 'Return of the Jedi' with a simple computer program, but Lucasfilm has so much trouble making Luke's lightsaber blue in 'A New Hope' when he is training on the Millennium Falcon

talk about black is white and up is down

  • HA!!!! At 1:25, if you look very closely when Luke spins the Lightsaber, a little Green is revealed in the Blue.

  • Ummm... I'm not sure if the orginal saber was tested as blue or not, and I am sure that there is some truth in that story. But this footage isn't legit! If it were test footage than why is it using the SE scenes?

  • @lobmo -- Perhaps the video's title could be misunderstood. The "tests" are of my experiments concerning the recoloring of Luke's saber. This is NOT some sort of 'long lost' footage.

...But, that's why I stated in the description: "...through the magic of technology, we can finally give Luke the blue lightsaber he deserves."

  • He didn't like how how the blue clashed on Tatooine so he gave him a green saber... and sent Luke to Endor - a green planet. :P

Don't get me wrong. The green RotJ saber is my fave by far!

  • Going by the prequels Lucas thinks blue and green are equally good-guy colors, but when this movie came out blue was good and red was bad, so green with no explanation added to the ambiguity of Luke's destiny and ultimately symbolized his refusal to do what either Yoda or Palpatine had planned.

  • errr - you can't put your own copyright next to Lucas sorry.

  • Apparently, 9 people had blue balls watching this video.

  • True. Hell I actually had the Return of the Jedi Luke Skywalker back when Kenner put out those figures - GUESS WHAT COLOR LIGHTSABER IT CAME WITH?!?

  • Interesting! It was still blue in the original Teaser and Trailers.

  • all that time when i watched the blue ( which was anakins ) .. change to green since hes arm go cut off .i thought the green one belonged to yoda :)

  • Green was much better with the red and Black!

  • when luke first catches his lightsaber chewbacca like jumps and is like WTF!?!?!?

  • Always liked the blue. Call me sentimental, the green was a nice change up, but I still like the blue better.

Wonder if they ever considered using that sort of dark amber color that was on the original backing card for the Obi Wan figure. That would've looked pretty cool and wouldn't have clashed with the blue sky.

  • i think that if luke was put in the pit in tge evening lucas woulda kept lukes lightsaber blie insteda green

  • I saw the original rod when Luke made his high ground jump

  • This is really well done. Although, if Luke's saber was blue in the film, all sabers would only be red and blue. Plus, they changed it to green because the blue version clashed with Tatooine's sky. I think it's better green, but this is really well done.

  • A well done video and I think the blue looked very good in the final part vs Vader. Green is still ftw though! lol : D

  • it looks better in green

  • also return of the jedi should remain revenge of the jedi if luke gets a blue lightsaber. just sayin

  • this is wat a blue lightsaber looks like in return of the jedi if lucas didn't changed luke's lightsaber to green. and if it happens instead of Luke being a first jedi with a green saber then Qui-Gon Jinn would end up being the first jedi with a green saber

  • I prefer it green but I definitely approve of you fixing the 'fat' lightsaber blade at shots in the throneroom.

  • I actually remember seeing some of the older trailers for this with the blue blade.

  • This was better then the actual film

  • even though blue is my favorite color (and the color i'd pick for my lightsaber) green looks better, here

  • Pleas watch my return of the jedi lego short

  • good stuff i like it

  • glad they changed it into green, i guess tht's the reason why Qui Gon's lightsaber is green as well

  • That's interesting; never knew that the original idea was a blue saber. Thanks.

  • @TypOPositiv yep, you can see in an early trailer (not sure if it also says revenge of the jedi although that was defiantly in some trailers), there's a blue saber in the tatooine battle. you can also see it's blue on the original posters.

  • i know in the frist trailer there is a rough cut of luke lightsaber being blue

  • no green is the best color for luke

  • @vintagecollectorsw I agree, but I still prefer blue.

  • I've never liked green lightsabers, Blue seems more classy.

  • A little cheesy but this is AWESOME :-)

    Nice

  • green works so much better. i know that the sail barge scene on Tatooine is the given reason for the change. but to me, the contrast in the throne room is what really makes that scene pop. with a blue saber amid all the other blinking blue machinery, it makes the green that much more impressuve for the scene.

  • The green saber gives this film a more unique identity.

  • 0:18 I never noticed that tablet drawing of jabba before.

  • The light saber color is based on what you believe in

  • it needs to be a lighter blue

  • @benkenobi1990 This was how it was in the prequels.

  • it actually was originally going to be a blue lightsaber but Lucas didn't like the way it looked in the tatooine scene against the blue sky so in the end he changed it to green, even though in the original poster it was blue

  • @MST720 -- I think that may have already been mentioned in another comment, but thanx for watching. :)

  • It's like he stole Obi-Wan's lightsaber lol.

  • Personaly I like the green better because the oppisite of green is red and that kinda shows you that the sith and the jedi are oppisites.

  • @euanhoff I LIKE THE GREEN TOO...LUKE' LIGHTSABER IS A MIX BETWEEN KENOBIS ANS YODA LIGHTSABERS....

  • when vader and luke lock lightsabers the glow is kinda green

  • It would have been cool if they did tricks while they were fighting with lightsabers in 4,5, and 6. Just like they did in 1,2, and 3. Cause it looks a little weird when all they are doing is just hitting it like crazy.

  • Look at 0:14

  • Awesome. I never liked the green lightsabers. Red and blue should be the only colors.

  • Great job man, personally i thinki Luke looks better with the blue one :)

  • Not bad...Personally, I think Luke looks better with the Blue Saber/Black Outfit.

  • hehe u should test other collors to like. Yellow Orange purple maybe red :DDD

  • Blue works fine - what people tend to mess up (and I've done this myself) is that it's supposed to be a blue 'glow' - not just a flat, ugly blue aura. The effect here really isn't a glow like you'd expect to see captured in a real camera. If I had the time I'd probably have a go at this myself, but the ideal result would be a 'cooler' or lighter blue, like the one you'd actually get from a light source in real life.

  • I think this is a neat little video and interesting fact about Luke's green vs. blue lightsaber. That being said, I really like Luke's green saber--it's different enough for you to recognize that Luke constructed a new saber and didn't somehow retrieve the old one off of Bespin--the general audience won't pay attention to the design of the hilt like us nerdy people. :) Plus, it's nice to have color variety. So, nice blue, but green will always rule.

  • 0:46 - 0:48

    Luke: No thanks Dad

Vader: What the hell am i supposed to do with this?

  • 2 reasons

1: Maybe Luke didn't want a exact copy out of respect for Obi-Wan (Star Wars Universe)

2: George Lucas was getting tired of showing Blue & red (Our universe)

  • 0:23 - The Wilhelm Scream

  • Man, that was amazing. What software did you use to replace the green.

  • @jedi794 -- Sony Vegas :)

  • @davnes007 Must have taken hours to make this video using that software.

  • @Paperagent02 -- Well, not quite THAT long.

  • @davnes007 How did you do lightsabers in sony vegas? :S I use after effects for stuff like this

  • @KrossPoison1 -- I didn't do anything too complicated. All I did was change the color.

  • @davnes007 Yeah but how?

  • Wow! This is great! Can you do something like maybe Anakin in AOTC during the Battle of Geonosis instead of a green lightsaber it is blue or Anakin vs Obi Wan with Anakin having a red lightsaber. Or, Mace Windu with a blue lightsaber, as he was supposed to have, but got purple.

  • @TheMartialartsJedi the movie was originally called revenge of the jedi but lucas changed the name at the last minute cuz he didnt want the jedi to sound evil and revengeful. so he saved the title for revenge of the sith which he had always planned to name episode 3 that

  • Its strange how Luke's Lightsaber has Resemblance of His two teachers... Green Blade of Yoda's And Obi-Wan's style of hilt...

  • @RngrPhantomCLZ i think that was intentional on lukes part

  • I wish that Lucas would have done something meaningful with his Star Wars special effects edits. Like somehow changing it so that Luke's lightsaber would actually cut the railing when it touched it. (During the Luke-Vader fight) With all the technology that we have today, it wouldn't be that hard to do, would it?

  • in the theatrical trailer it was blue but i bit lighter

  • Yeah, a few of the trailers showed Luke using a green lightsaber.

  • well actually ur right ,but since the EU is there ,it's really green the official thing

  • alittle bit too saber much glow, apart from that very good!

  • the blue really does blend into the sky

  • I'm not talking about the basics; Blue, Green, Red, Yellow. I know those, I'm talking about the special colors.

  • nice work

  • But what about Orange, Bronze, Turquoise, Purple and Silver? This is my confusion with the subject.

  • Great editing work!!

  • Interestingly enough, if you watch the early trailers for Return Of The Jedi, you can see Luke fighting with a blue lightsaber.

  • yes luke was ment to have a blue saber on one of the original trailers he has a blue saber

  • 0:49--You did a reall great job with this.

  • GREEN all the way

  • I was always enamoured with the green because we had only seen Blue and Red up untill this point and I felt it really went along with Luke as the "New Generaton" of Jedi. But it looks interesting. And yes it did clash with the Tatooine sky.

  • tube well be the lightsaber luke

  • blue is nice, but seeing green for over 25 yrs, you have to see ROTJ luke in Green, just meant to be. Nice comparsion tho!

  • It actually looks better with a blue lightsaber.

  • u can tell easily that this has been edited, the lightsaber connection hues mismatch the lightsaber colours

  • there is something special about a green lightsaber. Blue is a bit overrated and over used i think

  • I agree with you on that one.

  • It still clashes with the blue sky. That has nothing to do with technology. Blue lightsaber on blue sky is a no go.

  • @JarodRussell

Indeed. And since then Green blade (crystal) is called Jedi Consular. Which fits quite well actually. :)

  • Well done, but tbh the end duel with luke and vader looks no where near as epic with a blue saber, so I think lucas made the right choice by making lukes lightsaber green.

  • I disgaree. I actually think it looks way better with blue. I heard the way it was suppsed to be was simply red for Sith, Blue for jedi but because the producers didn't like the contrast between the blue sky and blue lightsaber in the battle on Jaba's ship they switched Luke's saber to green. Apparently that's the only reason it's green and not blue. I could be wrong though.

  • Blue has always been my favorite color, so I was a little pissed off when I saw the movie and saw the green saber. But that's just me.

Actually, at first Lucas wanted to make Jedi = Blue, Sith = Red. And from there on, blue has been like the "good" color and red the "evil" color". If you think about, there has been tons of movies, series and cartoons that have follow that symbology.

The editing is cool, even though the "clash points" look a little off. Good job, though.

  • You lie!!

  • I like the green lightsaber , but Luke looks more cooler with the blue when he's fighting his father.

  • Lucas changed the titled "Return" instade of "Revenge" because jedi don't take revenge.

  • I Always thought that white was training lightsaber (lukes saber on the falcon) blue was padawan/apprentice green master/knight (luke was a jedi knight in jedi)

  • Read my response to Digman2012's comment I made a while back. :)

  • actaully the lightsaber luke uses on the falcon is supposed to be blue since it belonged to anakin...but the rotoscoping in 1977 was a little off.

  • @FishfilmsInc His saber was actually blue, the technology just wasn't great. Really though, Blue is Guardian, Yellow is Sentinel, and Green is Sage(I used wrong words for sage, but couldn't think of it...)

  • i agree that luke looks awsome with the blue lightsaber but i prefer the green one she shade of it is amazing and its ignition sound is the best sound ever

  • I always felt blue saber = Jedi, red saber = Sith. Simple. No green, purple or any other color. Even if Lucas did want to give Jedi "cool" colors, then the Sith should have had all the "warm" colors (yellow, orange) not just red. Ah well, at least we can get a rough idea on what blue might have looked like.

  • there is a trailer somewhere on here taht shows a clip of this scene with the original blue saber.

  • i wouldn't like if sith had any other color but red

  • now if only someone could fix vader's saber from pink to red.

  • I did that already in "Vader's Redemption V. 4"

  • I have to say, I believe the green is much more visually pleasing in the movie.

  • I fully agree. :)

  • I want to know the purpose of different lightsaber colors, at first I thought it reflected your wisdom of the force, Blue being lower then green, then my views seem to be shattered by KotOR, so i'm like, okay what??? I didn't understand, is it purely cosmetic? Like I want a green lightsaber or a blue lightsaber. Aside from red being pretty specific to the Dark Side, why are they different colors?

  • Personally, I think having a blue/green saber is basically just a cosmetic choice...with red being a choice to join the dark side. I don't really care what the computer games, etc., show - I only care about the movies. (The only Star Wars game I played all the way through was Shadows of The Empire for the N64)

  • i think the colors mean what you are cuz i known some jedis with red lightsabers yea xD
