Rather than putting the dental band on over the blade end of the reed wouldn't it be safer to put in on over the staple end and then roll it up to the sound box? Seems that your be less likely to damage the reed blades.

@Piobplayer Thank you very much, and you make a great point. It may be safer to work from the staple end. The goal is definitely to apply the band without holding the blades and without catching the corners in the elastic.
