No, they are not allowed but most of them don't care about it. The train is nearing its destination so most of them come out and stand( or sit ) in the doors. According to me standing near the door( even tough a bit risky) or sitting on a window seat is real fun being a rail-fan i love it.
Does Island Express always get a WAP4 engine from SBC-->TVC and from TVC-->SBC? I understand beyond TVC the track is not electrified and so they switch to a WDM3-D or equivalent.
Thanks for the info. I will be traveling on Island Exp from SBC-CBE and then back from TUP-SBC sometime in Jan 2011. So it was nice to get an idea of the coach composition here (it looked like 1 2-tier AC and 3 3-tier AC coaches, is that right?) as Island Exp was moving relatively slowly.

@sudhisira That's the normal speed of this train. The most disgusting train I have ever seen on Indian Railways. Takes 18 hours to cover mere 857 km, with 36 fucking halts between TVC and SBC. And because of this piece of shit, 2626 trails behind. Stone age lunatic mallus like to travel slow. Still living in coconut jungles.
@lunatickerala That might be because it is a day train in Kerala whereas upto CBE (for 6526) and after PGT (for 6525) it is night time. I see there are only about 8-9 stops in the 450km or so stretch from SBC-CBE or TUP-SBC.
And it's been a long time since I traveled in a train in India. During my next trip, I am planning to take a train from DWR to BGM that will take the longest time and will stop at each and every little station along the way! Go figure :-)
@sudhisira That's a minor reason. Major reason is, this is the only daily train between SBC and TVC. A daily night train from TVC not allowed due to the bus lobby which will be wiped out if such a thing materializes. As for your DWR to BGM is concerned there are non stop trains and also trains with only 1 halt.
@lunatickerala : yes, there are plenty of trains with 0/1 stops between DWR and BGM. But I am looking for the opposite - I want a train that stops at EVERY station! Looks like the Hubli-Miraj passenger is the one for me. Anyways, this is off-topic. Thanks for your reply.
Thanks. I could see that the lettering on the first of the AC coaches was white and on the remaining three it was yellow. Then I looked at the coach images elsewhere. I am pretty sure that the first of the AC coaches is 2-tier AC and the remaining three are 3-tier AC.
Perfect timing and location! Where was this video taken? Assuming that the trains were running on time, it appears like the place is 20-30 mins from Bengaluru.. Is that right?
Dheeraj is correct on that. This is Bangalore Chennai Shatabdi Express. It leaves SBC at 6hrs and reaches MAS at 11hrs. In the return direction it leaves MAS at 17:30 hrs and reaches SBC at 22:30hrs.

Great video, but are people allowed to sit in the doors while the train is in speed? Looks pretty dangerous... Thumb up for great video

@natarajanakrishna OK, yeah I can imagine that it would be a bit "exciting" to sit in the door.
