  • This set has an odd energy about it.... Even "Cold Rain" is interesring....

  • @JoshuaTaylor I think it has to do with the funky visual editing

  • Trouble ahead...Jerry in red!

  • "Winds don't blooooooooooooooooooOOOOooOOOoOOoowwwww...."

  • petting my cat to this

  • The song is great but the editing is terrible......hard to watch

  • I just typed in the song name to google and this came up...this was my very first dead show! Nice surprise for a crappy monday morning!

  • Trouble ahead,Jerry in Red,super solid Cold Rain

  • never any cold rain & snow...in Buffalo!

  • I was there and they made it rain.

  • @Jimala3 was anybody high? =)

  • shit thats alot of people

  • came down from toronto to see this show.boarder crossing was a drag...not as mind blowing as june 84 at kingswood when we did those musical note blotters, but still a great time, and this tune was awesome.

  • Think I was here. Not sure. I saw them in NY in 1986 Tom Petty and Bob Dylan played too. Was that this show? Cause I dont know. I remember it was a great time

  • Camera works looks right out of the 21st century, UP CLOSE...BACK AWAY...TO THE SIDE...get some camera person

  • say what you will about "crappy dstortion" etc . bobby's phrasing came to maturity during this era I remember when he was guitarist of the year in one magazine in about 88 or 89. I was impressed by his skill after reading the transcriptions -very technical. his playing and sound were perfct for the time. bobby's a truly great player . folkhippy you wrote something about it being"hilarious for all" were you there as an invited backstage guest or were you watching that with binoculars?

  • THIS is awesome!!!!

  • Trouble ahead, Jerry in Red!! Kinda weird to see him all stoked up considering he fell into a diabetic coma 6 days later.......

  • Excellent version of an opener at many shows I saw during this era... I don't know about the rest of you, but seeing this now makes my hair stand on end! They were the best band of the 80's for me--smarter than U2, more consistent than Sonic Youth, more expansive than the BH surfers. They could start out unassuming on some old blues tune, say nothing, stand there looking lumpy, broadcast no video, and levitate an entire stadium within 20 minutes. Awe-inspiring.

  • the reason for all the cuts from one camera to another is because a couple of songs later they were going live as part of the farm aid broadcast so they were making sure all the cameras were working etc

  • they're so uncool they're cool

  • I thought that was daisy duke

  • Yes, it's nice to see the boys having fun! Only problem i have with this footage is some of the editing. Slow it down a bit please. Love to watch Bobby "bobbing" at the mike!

  • THE FAT MAN ROCKS!!!!!

  • bobby just cracks me up

  • @jelHax Yes the 80s were a special time for Bobby. Lunging around the stage and tossing his hair back; wearing short-shorts and a purple wifebeater; going through all the crappy 80s guitar distortion sounds he could find. When Jerry was in a playful mood, he would openly make fun of Bobby on-stage by imitating his head-bobbing and movements. It was hilarious for all.

  • Thank You so Very Much!

  • i was so dosed.one of the best times of my life thanks to tabs of woodstock

  • @GODUCKGO hell ya..=)

  • Did Michael Bay direct this? Because it's almost unwatchable w/all the cuts. Great version of this song, though!! And thanks for uploading it!! I just can't WATCH it..

  • should I be happy with or sad? cuz my grandmother probably figuired out why I was on Tour for so long, talkin with Jerry, Heaven has to be Awesome

  • Love the wind in Bob's hair - Love Jerry being so lively and happy - What a night to catch the band - Love Jerry in any color - Phil was lobbing some bombs - Mickey and Billy keeping time - Brent in the house as well - This was the quintessential line up of the Dead - this time - Summer of '90 was off da chain -

  • @Cabinator - this time THROUGH the Summer of 1990 that is - I was blessed and lucky enough see all but one show (Chicago) in the Summer of 1990 - Best couple of weeks of my life as it turns out

  • fun

  • thumbs up if you're rockin out!!!!!

  • trouble ahead, jerry in red...

god i miss him so much...

  • My favorite shot is at 4:48 NICE WORK

  • I want that rug.

  • trouble ahead, Jerry in red

  • ~~`**~``~* happy 4th of July { JERRY } ~`*~`~*

  • I was at this show and shook hands with Bill Walton " The worlds Tallest Deadhead"....you couldn't miss him in the crowd..It was hot as hell that day too..Peace

  • Still tryin' to find myself, Ekim, Letta, Ejack, Groovy. Amy and Coyne about 11 rows back center downstage left of Bobby but not enough to be throwing Jerry off. p.s I almost squandered Shima. Sorry MAtty

  • jerry is rhapsody in red

  • I was there. 21st bday.

  • While I didn't haven't have an experience like Jerry's this winter, I gotta admit, I'm glad the Cold, Rain and Snow won't be an issue for at least a few months in my hometown of Buffalo, NY.

  • i love you phill!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Jerry looks like santa here in that t shirt.

  • I was there!!!!!

  • @iraceu1

you and every other head at the show! zowie!

  • love this song.

  • this is great. i had these farm-aid songs on a lot of tapes as filler for '86>'88 sbd shows. its a good version but the bouncy camera work can be quite weird. thx for this:)

  • This was one of the best shows I ever been to! Right here in my own backyard, (kinda)! Hard to believe it was freaken 25 years ago tho!! I thought they played extremely tight that day. Crowd was great, cops left folks alone. They also did a Jack Straw that day (July 4th), crowd went nuts when they sang... "Leavin texas, fourth day of july, Sun so hot, the clouds so low, the eagles filled the sky."

I was happy I just found this :) Thanks to whoever posted it!!! Great stuff!!!!!

    (-<-) -AL-

  • @AlAllerton Isn't time strange? I think of those Alpine stands, the '87 Summer Tour with the Harmonic Convergence at Telluride and the final Red Rocks shows--and think the same thing. Jesus, was it that long ago? The memories are still so vivid! They did a Jack Straw on the 4th in TEXAS early '80s and Bobby totally blew THE line--couldn't take the pressure. Cold Rain is such a great opener and this show was a smoker. Trouble ahead, Jerry in Red! Boy, those were the days! Peace to all.

  • Hard to believe, but Bobby's shorts in 6/21/89 are even shorter. "Nutters" is the appropriate term. This vid is pretty darn close to Jer's coma...pretty hot though.

  • Jerry...looks so happy!!!

  • garcia got all the credit. weir kept it together.

  • I wasn't there, too young...but wow, looks like a killer crowd

  • .....and then it began to get windy and started to rain.....

  • dig it

  • with dylan and petty

  • suo, Ralph Wilson Stadium?

  • that was tremedous in every way

  • those were the days...great fuzzy memories...and for the record i love Steal Your Face even though some people put it down

  • Sweet cut off jorts, Bobby

  • who wears short shorts... weir wears short shorts

  • @ElliottDay88 That is hilarious!

  • @ElliottDay88 they're JORTS man. lmao

  • @ElliottDay88 lol

  • this is great, but bobby looks so cheesy with his dance moves

  • Lyrics By: Traditional

    Music By: Traditional

  • One of their great oldies. They've slowed it down a bunch in this number. What a group! They let the music flow.

  • does anyone know who actually wrote this?

  • @Django5198 Old Traditional tune

  • I was right in front of that huge stage I think my neck is still sore from staring up at them .lol .what a fantastic day, was one I'll never forget ... Thanks for the video... nothing like the fourth of July in Buffalo :) OO

  • Thankfully folks are matching soundboard up with whatever footage is available; weird editing is needed so the singing doesnt look 'off' - I'll take it, thanks for posting.

  • North Korea needs to come up with some kind of Farm Aid and have music like this.

  • Love the Dead, Love how the band plays this song, but the camera editing for this live performance is crafted by someone who doesn't know what they're doing and is failing, at best.

  • He was probably wearing red because his Black and blue t shirts were in the laundry. Anyway it is super cool to see a video with Garcia so energetic. Thank you Jerry "nothing left to do but smile smile smile"

  • this is pre-coma dead, you ppl don know wtf ur talking about

  • It seems everyone on this site likes to banter back and forth and NOT listen to the MUSIC! Is anybody out there?.............. Yeah, Jerry does'nt look so good....Bob has nut huggers....Brent is a strung out junkie at this point....Phil is the glue that holds this ragtag bunch together........The drummers do there thing and WE all enjoy the ride....:)

  • Why do people get so damn "hatey" on these message boards. I would think that their purpose is for a few people to look back and smile on a good memory. Yet I scroll and all I see is banter about "who was really there" and poor Jerry's boobs. Looking over this video, Bobbys' still jumping around in some strangely comfortable nutt-huggers, and aside from Jerry's personal problems, I think that at least in this show he seems to be enjoying himself. Thats all this moment is supposed to be, FUN!

  • How the fuck could anyone look like that at 44 years old? Poor guy

  • @Django5198 your comment on his age has really got me thinking,my first show was about 2 weeks after this show and now that i am gonna be 44 myself this year .....well lets just say i hope i dont look as old as he does here but he sure looks like he have some fun thanks django

  • Great video. Seems like the camera guy's on crystal meth though

  • Trouble ahead Jerry in Red!!!

  • this was my first dead show. Thanks!!!!

  • Jerry + Brent played off each other so well. Jer actually looks lively here...smiles, movement, the whole shabang...

ahh...summer tour on the east coast...always so much fun. i only made it to buffalo once and that was in 95...and by then the machine had fallen apart and the scene was a mess too.

  • I was there, peaked a bit too early and didn't get to enjoy the show as much as usual. I never once felt ripped off, it was a two way street and if you didn't get into it then you didn't. The rip off shows are the "it's perfect, sounds like the album" bullshit. No downer memories for me man! Thanks for sparking my crackled memory of this show!

  • jerry is as american as it gets! he liked his drugs and haggendaz... god bless jerry for all of the music he revamped and exposed new generations too! love you always .J.G

  • I could care less for what he looked like, its what came out of that guitar that made me happy....... Tito has a thing with overweight people.

  • Comment removed

  • @rotolo lol what does that have to do with his guitar playing. I like when people look for arguments. I cold care less.... pshhhh Ii heard many things about anything.... but who am I to judge. Be on your merry way my friend and look for trouble elsewhere, your argument won't be effecting me. Carry on....

  • Comment removed

  • trouble ahead, Jerry in red!!!

  • it was never about perfection. it was always ALL about the music. maybe some people just couldn't hear what jerry could hear. i was @ this show 2 & never once thought about the $ i spent. yep...some shows were better than others, but i've never been 2 a show i didn't love.

    my brother went 2 sit @ jerry's side @ 4:20 on 1-6-2011. timing is everything. <3 they know my love will not fade away. <3 (~);-}

  • Who wears short shorts? BOB wears short shorts

  • It's all relative. He looks a heck of a lot better here than he did in late 1984. Does he look like a triathlete? No, but compared to the non-moving completely wasted Jerry from 1984/85, he's definitely a bit more coherent. I was at this show too.

  • Jerry looks FUCKIN GREAT in this video...He`s got his head bobbin`and his body rockin`!!...He`s jammin`!Get over it already!!Jerry used heroin,so did I...so did many other heads...He still gave us all the love and joy his heart could give and played the music we fell for years ago...Jerry played with respect for us everynite...so give some in return!!..I miss you Jer Bear!

  • I was there!

  • Very Nice! Thank you.

  • C-Cups indeed, but the man is still moving about and smiling Big.

  • I was there and it sounds better than I thought it was because a long time ago I heard the tape. Very cool to see this here!

    What a party that was!

  • great sound.

  • Hell yea! Jerry's killing it! The boys sound tight and look like they are having fun!

    Thanks for the post!

  • I was on this entire tour. This was the last show of the tour where The Grateful Dead took the stage first. I remember half of the crowd left before Tom Petty (and Bob) hit the stage.

One of the least memorable shows of this tour...for me anyway.

Rubber Bowl and RFK were my favorite.

  • I was at this show! Sorta.

  • thanks!

  • what the fuck does jerry's looks have to do with the video or the music.... come on if you really like the music why does that thought even come into your head? it's a great song so just listen and go where those chilly winds dont blow...... and just so you know, show some fuckin respect.... the fat man fuckin rocks

  • I have to agree with Tito - and I absolutely will forever LUV Jerr --- he treated himself like shit, (looks like absolute shit in this video) and ultimately killed himself --- thankfully - his spirit will live on forever. Peace, J

  • We thought the G Ful Dead we're gonna play w/ bobby d not that day but soon I drove my nash rambler 1965 up to buffalo

  • Comment removed

  • Dead shows were so much fun what are the doing on the scafolding in the backrou d looks like being a roadie had it's perks

  • Great video, but the useless arguments blow

  • Well hopefully you feel better by ripping the way the guy looks. The true deal is that the guy left alot of people with wonderful memories and Jerry will be remembered and loved for a long long time unlike yourself. Have fun looking for the negatives it is a sorry way to go thru life.

  • all the camera angle changes in this give me a headache

  • Jerry SOUNDS good. You can't take that from the man.

  • quite copacetic cold rain n snow

the aging jerry's singing brings a tear

unless yr a zombie (then why the f**k are you here)

  • Look you dumb asses.

You were never left out in the cold rain and snow by Jerry.

Jerry had is problems, but boy I would guess that his problems were less than yours.

    Pretenders go away.

  • @larz1954 amen, brother :-) Jerry rules

  • @larz1954 Addicted to Persian, cigarettes and bad food. Diabetes, high blood pressure and an astronomical cholestoral count. I'd say MOST people don't have those problems. To imply Jerry was anything other than an inevitable trainwreck at this point in time would be far less than honest.

  • he could've had a gig as santa claus in shopping centres i reckon haha

    <3 jerry

  • Jerry looks good and is singing well. The boys are pretty tight here. So lighten up and ohhh are you so perfect?

  • Oh, Bobby. Bobby, Bobby, Bobby....

  • THIS IS A GOOD ONE WHAT WAS THE AUDIENCE SIZE IT LOOKS AS IT GOES ON FOREVER?
