@sds4kst8 i have a canon 1000d with battery grip and wanted to get the canon 70-200mm f4 (non is) because i cant afford the 2.8 like you have is f4 still ok?
@musicmentalwebsite - Honestly, no, f4 just won't cut it in some low-light situations. If you can't afford the Canon f2.8 IS lens, think about getting the non-IS version or something like the Sigma EX 70-200/f2.8. I've used the Sigma in the past and it's a very capable lens. Price is pretty good, too, especially if you find a good used copy. Good luck.

Hi. I am stuck between the canon 70-200 non IS and the IS. As you own the the non IS lens do you ever wished you had the IS? I'm mainly using it for sports / wildlife and maybe the odd portrait. Hope you can advise and thanks.
@russellfeatherstone I have never felt like I was missing anything by not having IS on my 70-200/f2.8 lens, and I never use it with my 400/f2.8, not even when panning. And, when I shoot portraits I'm using some kind of artificial light (strobe) so I don't feel like I need IS in those situations, either. I suggest, if you can afford it, there's nothing wrong with having IS. But if money is tight, don't hesitate to buy the non-IS version.
I don't believe it would be very practical for field sports shooting with something like a 400/f2.8 lens. It doesnt look very comfortable and the copy on the web site seems like its written by someone who has little (if any) experience using a monopod.
Im open to new ideas and new ways of doing things, but I dont believe this is one of those things. Sorry. I think Ill pass.
To be honest, I'm the inventer of the BMS and I have never touch this 400f/2.8 lens, I know only that is a very heavy lens and a much have lens for me later.
At the beginning, I do soccer pictures with a monopod, the 20D and 70-200mm f/2.8 IS lens, I notice the pan/tilt is not that easy especially when the players approach to me and I have to move backward and reposition the monopod on the ground and look again on the viewfinder and prepare to shoot pictures. They show me their backs already.

@sds4kst8 I use the 70-200L 2.8 no IS, and I love it. Really the only benefit of IS is if you need your shutter speed under 1/250, IMO.

The Canon 1.4x II. I rarely use it and do not own a 2x TC.

@sds4kst8
why do you rarely use the extender? I'm thinking to buy it for my 70-200 f4 for soccer. (for sunny weather)

@TTphotography I personally don't like the slight drop in image quality when using the teleconverter.
