1. how long can this pad keep drawing heat? I use my laptop as a desktop replacement and usually leave it on for 10+ hours at a time (although not constantly under heavy load such as gaming). Would the pad still work after all that time under a warm surface?
2. After the solid completely melt into a gel, wouldn't the ridges disappear and my laptop bottom will be against a flat jelly surface which seal the vent and block the fan?

Is this product identical to the cooling pads by iXoft (Thermaltake), Targus AWE45US HeatDefense or Syba (Creative I/O)? The Syba is less than $15. I just wonder if all four pads were manufactured by the same company or if the Sodium Sulfate Decahydrate crystals (or something else) are of a different grade. Hopefully one of these companies takes your advise on the silicone strips. Too bad you didn't do a performance comparison with the XPad Slim laptop cooler. Thanks for your review.
Nice review! Thanks. Regarding the issue of a laptop sliding on the ThermaPAK, one might remedy this by purchasing some small cabinet door bumpers and superglue them in various places to the pad. This should help reduce sliding.
nope, probably not, becuz if the crystals all turn into liquid already, and the heat already spreads out into all places possible, it will be a hot container only, i think the hour limit should be 3 to almost 6 hours depending on how much heat ur laptop gives off
Hey, I actually just reviewed this myself. You do feel a slight increase in temperature on your legs, but nothing compared to if you had your laptops directly on your lap.
Yeah i was using my lap top as my primary PC, as many people do and one day it just would not work. Took it to the shop and the mother board was dead. I guess heat and heavy use finally killed it. Seems like one of those pads would have really helped.
Thanks for the comment. I appreciate the sentiment!
I use a Sony PD-150 for filming 'gadget' -- It's old-school and breaks more often that it works, but we'll be upgrading to a true HD AVCHD camera in the Fall.
Yeah... that's actually what I use the pad for -- I'm always working in bed and the sheets and pillows tend to screw up the ventilation. I just really wish it had some sort of tacky surface so my laptop wouldn't slide off.
My laptop gets so hot. I've had to start using a TV Tray to make sure it gets enough air, then I opened up my laptop to find out there was a hand full of dust. I mean, literally a hand full of dust in my four inch fan and even with that removed It still gets over a hundred degrees.
Your reviews are always really well done and very professional, It has come to the point where I trust your opinion and can buy products you recommend with confidence, for that I must say thanks and keep up the good work.
It depends on how much heat your laptop is pumping out. With that Dell notebook that you saw in the video, 4 hours after the test started there were still unmelted crystals in the pad.
He is scary

Great reviews! If you place this pad on your lap, do you feel any of the heat? Or does it remain cool?

I will look for this to go onsale. I just wouldn't pay more than $15-20 to cool a laptop when all you have to do is lift it up for awhile.

SSS,
Wierd huh? -- How can manufactuers keep selling "laptops" when putting it on your lap could lead to 3rd degree burns? :)
