There is so much love for Neil Pert, but what about good ol' Geddy? This man shreds on bass more than anyone i've ever heard, and his vocal range is INCREDIBLE. And he's doing BOTH AT THE SAME FUCKING TIME. Sure Pert writes the lyrics, but Geddy is dual wielding two intensely technical musical proficiencies at ONCE. Show some compassion for an overshadowed genius.
Neil's groove is so hard to play. and he fucking flipping his sticks everywhere. And the fucking synth lines. and the fucking guitar solos. and the fucking sound effects. and that fucking guy dancing. hes scary. Woooooooooooooooo. Rush is unreal.

@Doubles666 1984 Grace under Pressure Tour, saw this tour when they hit Chicago, what a great and awesome show it was!!! They did three parts of fear in order, Witch Hunt followed this track and Enemy within preceded it
absolutely how amazing how they produce such a full and powerful sound and make it look effortless! Watch Geddy's hands on the bass and see the riffs he's playing while singing!!!! Un fucking real!!!
I grew up in the 90's and my dad had this on VHS. The tape literally wore through because I watched all the freakin' time. This is what started it all for me. I wanted to learn Geddy's parts, I wanted the Ricky bass, the nose, even the quirky stage clothes Geddy and the boys wore! Rush simply kicks ass, even whenever it wasn't and/or isn't cool to be a Rush fan, Rush kicks ass!
@nakedchilli LOL stopped reading at Metallica "probably" being a better band than Rush. Geddy, Alex and Neil make those fools look like toddlers flailing on instruments they just found.
it's truly amazing to watch them play such great music and make it look effortless, and you can tell they enjoy playing together. the sound they create for a three piece band just blows me away everytime i put on one of their songs
My brother kept elbowing me during Power Windows..This was hilarious..I loved all these albums in the period but the greatest bassist on the planet should not be focused on synths...
I have listened to hundreds of RUSH tunes on youtube and then I stumbled on this gem. My goodness it never ceases to amaze. The big hair, keyboard era is my personal favorite and this is as good as I have seen from that time. WOW!
I am so glad I caught that intro during Power Windows..It was their best show ever...I die every time I see them...I honestly can say,Power Windows was the best tour..Sorry,have seen R 30,Retro..Everything after Windows...It was their ultimate tour...Highest grossing for that year....Lazers everywhere...It was Rush's best show I have ever seen
@666Slaatanikka666 i did not see no midget in the first three rows you fucking bawww fag.Why do you lie for faggot? does it make you feel like a man or does it maybe make you feel a little taller than 3 foot.
He's not afraid of your judgement, he knows of horrors worse than your hell, he's a little bit afraid of dying, but he's a lot more afraid of your lying.
Can you imagine Pert in any other band? His bandmates would just hate him because they were completely inferior to the drummer. This band is only great because all 3 guys are amazing at what they do.

Rush is these 3 guys :)
@ushojedi we all have ego! but i agree, alex lifeson is one of the best who ever picked up the guitar!!! he is just incredible...signals is my favourite rush album...
@ushojedi You're right, totally agree but he's one of the most underrated guitar player of all times, brainless and heartless people don't give him enough credit. Alex is one of my three favorites and I think he's the best when it comes to playing progressive.
@benebenicio alex uses the guitar to make sound effects that fit that particular song, he doesn't just play hard or fast like most of the heavy guitar players. there is always a purpose to his solos, and they are well crafted and played with perfection. not many guitar players can match his artistry or creativity when it comes to solos, although i would consider David Gilmour of Pink Floyd to be in that same category
@BLUESMANRONCHICAGO I agree, there's always a purpuse to his solos, in this case The Weapon solo has everything and of course all his solos fit perfectly in so many ways in each song he plays from Limelight to Earthshine, from Xanadu to Freewill so different from another his solos fit so damn good, Alex is so emotional and sensitive guitar player as Gilmour is but I think Alex is more creative.
@ushojedi He is indeed an egoless artist, nothing more. I should know, I have argued with myself about Brian, Joe, Eddie, I could name many others. Man showed up in Greensboro NC in an old shirt and played FLAWLESSLY as if it were nothing. Trust me, I have shed tears over Brian May, but Alex? I rest my case.
@BLUESMANRONCHICAGO I know!! He didn't make the top 100 rolling stone guitarists!!! and you should see some that made it i mean joni mitchell, thurston moore Mark Knopfler, kurt cobain better guitarists than alex lifeson!!!
@ushojedi Rush has been SO overlooked when it comes to great rock bands that have stood the test of time, and don't know why!!! Musicianship does not get any better than the three of them, and Neil Peart's lyrics are some of the most intellectual and thought provoking of all time. The Four Parts of Fear prove that out, Witch Hunt is my favorite
@ushojedi well said, Alex VERY, VERY underrated when rock guitar players are mentioned. Group itself has never gotten the accolades they deserve, the fact they are not in the hall of fame is a FUCKING TRAVESTY!!!!!
@philritter21 I completely agree man. These guys had been together for about 8 years. They were just starting to hit their peak. Ged's voice was perfect then though. Now' he is a little all over the place, but still himself. But with age comes great wisdom... Clockwork Angels is cracking up to be an amazing album already.
Geddy Lee, Alex Lifeson, Neil Peart, and oh yeah Joe Flaherty... these people in the audience were never more entertained in their lives. Dammit I can never find my 3d glasses when I need them.
I was just about to comment on the risk Rush took by going synth heavy which must limit Geddy's ability to simultaneously play bass well HOWEVER, he then lays down crazy bass lines during the verses and the breakdowns - he gives both instruments their due. Is this the work of Cygnus (the god of balance)? And the playing between Geddy and Neil gives Alex such room to just create mood and texture. Alex has the enviable position of not having to carry the band as most guitarists do. Incredible.
Signals was (to me) the defining moment in Rush's career. Instead of making a Moving Pictures retread, they did something totally different and unexpected. I know a lot of people didn't like them going into heavy synthesizers, but now this stuff just seems so awesome. I wish they would incorporate a little more into their current music.
An ending only Rush can pull off - Man I remember seeing them in concert in the early 90's - Hands down the best band to see live to date. I know Kiss puts on a show but Rush has more talent in one of their left testicles. =P
I saw them in the UK in 84 for this same tour, while in the USAF, and was beside myself at the Count Floyd intro (huge SCTV fan from the beginning), but nobody around me had a clue why it was funny.
@mistyzombie336 alex once said they would never make records using overdubs or anything they could not do onstage. also a key is neil's perfect sense of beat and timing, and the ability to play at the same pace as he did in the studio. that is true musicianship
I saw them live for the first time in Milan, October 23, 2007. How exciting! An extraordinary performance of the Canadian trio! I recommend everyone learn to know them thoroughly, to see their live concerts, listening to their discography. It 's a sin, not having the fame and recognition that is its due, because this progressive, has always been like jazz, a genre niche unappreciated by the masses. But nowadays, amid a sea of shit, diamonds are always shining! Simply search ..
Steinberger- best bass ever invented. It seems to me that Ged was the most exploratory on the bass at the time he was playing that little thing. 1984-1986 live he did some pretty cool stuff on the L-2.
I remember this song getting some airplay in October of 83, they'd actually use the Joe Flaherty intro on 101 KLOL and 97 Rock in Houston. IMO this is the best Rush song of all time that wasn't a "hit".
It only got a little airplay because they were mostly playin Subdivisions, New world man, and The Analog Kid
@SunsetSupermanRMB Totally correct. I was a new "sony rockman" user (14 years old at the time). No one could get my headphones off (especially from around my mullett). Those three you mentioned were the ones radio played. But this one felt like it was all mine. Genius, pure genius!
BEEN A DEDICATED FAN SINCE 1978 WHEN i BOUGHT 2112. HAVE THIS CONCERT ON VHS WHEN I BOUGHT IT IN 1986. FANTASTIC BAND SEEN EVERY TOUR IN THE UK SINCE THEY TOURED HERE FROM MOVING PICTURES IN '82, SHOOK HANDS WITH ALEX AT SHEFFEILD ARENA ON THE ROLL THE BONES TOUR, AND WAS LUCKY ENOUGH TO SEE THEM EXCEPT NEIL AT MANCHESTER M.E.N. ON THE R30 TOUR. BEST BAND EVER TO WALK THE GILDED STAGE, ROCK ON!
Fall of 2011, Clockwork Angels is their new album, playing a song called "Caravan" on their tour now, from that album and it's going to be awesome and I'm totally excited because they're going to tour AGAIN, they always tour for their albums
@Digikid313 He wears them for songs in which there is a synthesizer sound dictating the tempo (like Red Sector A), because he needs to stay in sync with keyboard sound.
when SIGNALS came out, a good friend of mine called me saying: "hey, have you bought the new Rush album? please don't do it! it's really bad, they changed their style totally, now they are playing more with keyboards and synths, don't buy it, it's a p.o.s. .... nowadays when we have a beer together, we always remember how wrong he was, I bought the album and became one of my favorites, musical evolution that is!
That is funny I cried when I heard it and now I think it is there best. I just wish I would have seen them during the singals tour I had the chance. :-(
@Kaguamax hahahaha man this is my all time fav album, and u know what when i first heard it I only liked the weapon but it was a cassette in 82 and I was simply lazy to fast forward so in a way i had to hear the whole thing and It was a torture, it wook me full 2 years to digest it.....weird eh....
@Kaguamax I think he was right initially. What beer were you drinking at the time? ;) No serious, they are amazing, but set too high a standard to maintain prior to Signals.

Umm, ya', Sony Walkman. The Rockman was the sound effect box from Tom Scholz. Hello! Had my coffee now!
bwiley072 1 year ago
I saw them in the UK in 84 for this same tour, while in the USAF, and was beside myself at the Count Floyd intro (huge SCTV fan from the beginning), but nobody around me had a clue why it was funny.

AMAZING how they can sound exacly like thier albums, ya know? thumbs up if you agree
mistyzombie336 1 year ago 26
@mistyzombie336 because rush is talented and doesnt edit their song like crazy in the studio like most modern bands
Zombieman27 8 months ago
@mistyzombie336 I wouldn't say its exactly like the album, I'd say its better.
nihlous 8 months ago
@mistyzombie336 alex once said they would never make records using overdubs or anything they could not do onstage. also a key is neil's perfect sense of beat and timing, and the ability to play at the same pace as he did in the studio. that is true musicianship

@mistyzombie336 MAN they dont sound exacly like their albums, they sound BETTER!!

UP RUSH FROM ITALY

Steinberger- best bass ever invented. It seems to me that Ged was the most exploratory on the bass at the time he was playing that little thing. 1984-1986 live he did some pretty cool stuff on the L-2.
DeltaGaryGordon 1 year ago
@DeltaGaryGordon Yeah he did A LOT of triplets in that time lol

I remember this song getting some airplay in October of 83, they'd actually use the Joe Flaherty intro on 101 KLOL and 97 Rock in Houston. IMO this is the best Rush song of all time that wasn't a "hit".
It only got a little airplay because they were mostly playin Subdivisions, New world man, and The Analog Kid
SunsetSupermanRMB 1 year ago

The Weapon is not from Grace Under Pressure, its a single from the Signals album. Though I'm sure it was played during the Grace tour.

I never understood why neil wore a hat on this song, they even show him throwing it off at the end of the song on the dvd.
Great song and video intro anyway
Digikid313 1 year ago
@Digikid313 The hat is literally attached to the headphones. When you're drumming, it's very easy for headphones to fall off.
usenetsolon 1 year ago
@usenetsolon ok, then why does he only wear them for this song?
Digikid313 1 year ago
@Digikid313 He wears them for songs in which there is a synthesizer sound dictating the tempo (like Red Sector A), because he needs to stay in sync with keyboard sound.
usenetsolon 1 year ago
@Digikid313 Neil said somewhere that he wear the hat because the headphone stay much steady on his head!

@717mienbao "Soars" is just the right word! Alex is so brilliant, and I love his work during the verses; it's so intricate.

@717mienbao many of alex's solos soar, I like the one he does in Afterimage, and his accoustic solo that leads into The Trees on exit stage left

when SIGNALS came out, a good friend of mine called me saying: "hey, have you bought the new Rush album? please don't do it! it's really bad, they changed their style totally, now they are playing more with keyboards and synths, don't buy it, it's a p.o.s. .... nowadays when we have a beer together, we always remember how wrong he was, I bought the album and became one of my favorites, musical evolution that is!

Talaramama 1 year ago
@Kaguamax I think he was right initially. What beer were you drinking at the time? ;) No serious, they are amazing, but set too high a standard to maintain prior to Signals.
