  • Excellent, just excellent.

  • Neil's groove is so hard to play. and he fucking flipping his sticks everywhere. And the fucking synth lines. and the fucking guitar solos. and the fucking sound effects. and that fucking guy dancing. hes scary. Woooooooooooooooo. Rush is unreal.

  • Peart playing that ungodly beat and flipping sticks for fun. :P

  • absolutely kick ass

  • lol alex is such a goof!

  • Damn right I got the DVD -- and on the Replay X 3 set they picked the best DVD out of the 3 to make a separate CD out of -- THIS ONE -- Best live versions of Distant Early Warning, Red Sector A, and THIS

    SCARRRRRY OOOOOOOHHHHHH

  • They were fucking young looking!

  • @Doubles666 1984 Grace under Pressure Tour, saw this tour when they hit Chicago, what a great and awesome show it was!!! They did three parts of fear in order, Witch Hunt followed this track and Enemy within preceded it

  • 2011 the geFilter

    /watch?v=WRw9wlOZ9Lg

  • absolutely how amazing how they produce such a full and powerful sound and make it look effortless! Watch Geddy's hands on the bass and see the riffs he's playing while singing!!!! Un fucking real!!!

  • And only Geddy could pull off a "bob" mullet during that time XD

  • I grew up in the 90's and my dad had this on VHS. The tape literally wore through because I watched all the freakin' time. This is what started it all for me. I wanted to learn Geddy's parts, I wanted the Ricky bass, the nose, even the quirky stage clothes Geddy and the boys wore! Rush simply kicks ass, even whenever it wasn't and/or isn't cool to be a Rush fan, Rush kicks ass!

  • there can't be but 3 bands better at being bands than rush...

    metallica? probably

    the beatles? sure

led zep? as far as bluesy rock goes...

    the stones? not even close

    the who? they're good

    yes? sure

  • @nakedchilli LOL stopped reading at Metallica "probably" being a better band than Rush. Geddy, Alex and Neil make those fools look like toddlers flailing on instruments they just found.

  • Pure Rush genius. Rush for everyone!!!

  • Two legendary Canadian institutions, Rush and Count Floyd from SCTV's 'Monster Chiller Horror Theater'!!

  • ah, the 80's. when cheezy effects and synthesyzers were everything. how do i know? well, just watch the first 2 mins\

  • i feel bad for the guy who has to be the vampire actor. XD

  • @13maxmom That was Dave Thomas he was on SCTV and had/has a good career

  • @MYacono - Actually that is Joe Flaherty as count floyd.

  • @cwphunky68 Thanks for the correction, been so many years

  • At 3:22 Alex has this crazy retro flock of seagulls Gary Busy thing going on...

  • Total musical OWNAGE.

  • @666Slaatanikka666 My electronic music skills ten fold your shit guitar playing.

Feat vid i made on my channel.

  • This is just too scary!

  • it's truly amazing to watch them play such great music and make it look effortless, and you can tell they enjoy playing together. the sound they create for a three piece band just blows me away everytime i put on one of their songs

  • My brother kept elbowing me during Power Windows..This was hilarious..I loved all these albums in the period but the greatest bassist on the planet should not be focused on synths...

  • Alex's dancing made me laugh too.

  • holy lord that was amazing. So much more complexity when you hear this live.

  • How I miss the synthesizer being up front in their work! Awesome song. Shivers at :59

  • I have listened to hundreds of RUSH tunes on youtube and then I stumbled on this gem. My goodness it never ceases to amaze. The big hair, keyboard era is my personal favorite and this is as good as I have seen from that time. WOW!

  • @tradinpaint999 I had this on VHS in the late 80s.

  • A masterpiece of Peart's creativity and drum skills. Just epic beyond belief...

  • I am so glad I caught that intro during Power Windows..It was their best show ever...I die every time I see them...I honestly can say,Power Windows was the best tour..Sorry,have seen R 30,Retro..Everything after Windows...It was their ultimate tour...Highest grossing for that year....Lazers everywhere...It was Rush's best show I have ever seen

  • One of Peart's better compositions in terms of drumming. Wonder why they never play this (aside from maybe they just don't like it???)?

  • Neil Peart is such a God. Even his stick flip trick is in a perfect timing. How does that in an entire song while playing??? Rush > God.

  • @666Slaatanikka666 forever alone

  • @666Slaatanikka666 kill yourself

  • Rush is ART

  • @ZaFiRa20021 indeed. they understand that their paintings need both huge sweeping brushstrokes and intricate bristle work.

  • Surely one of Rush's all-time greatest songs.

  • Great band, do see them if you get the chance! They sound as good live as they do on their albums

  • Neil did NOT have time to do that at 1:49

  • @666Slaatanikka666 i did not see no midget in the first three rows you fucking bawww fag.Why do you lie for faggot? does it make you feel like a man or does it maybe make you feel a little taller than 3 foot.

  • alex's solos prove you don't have to beat the hell out of the guitar or turn it up to 11 to make a "heavy" sound.

  • 8 dislikes, what are they crazy?

  • He's not afraid of your judgement, he knows of horrors worse than your hell, he's a little bit afraid of dying, but he's a lot more afraid of your lying.

  • @gonnagroove ...classic lyrics by one of the most under rated songwriter in

    the modern rock era.

  • Not only do they sound like their albums, I'd have to say they sound BETTER live.

  • The drumming in this one is quite exceptional for the song structure...

  • This sounds so good I can hardly believe it's live.

  • And, one of the funniest intro videos!

  • Can you imagine Pert in any other band? His bandmates would just hate him because they were completely inferior to the drummer. This band is only great because all 3 guys are amazing at what they do.

  • @aegisgfx Perfectly acclaimed.

  • @aegisgfx Peart added the dimension the band was missing.. But Rutsey was okay fer what they were doing at the time.. strait ahead rock.. workin` man, finding my way... But these 3 guys are Definately RUSH take away one, it would never be the same. At least Dream Theater is a big enough band that losing Portnoy didnt decimate them...If you follow what I`m saying.. Rush is these 3 guys :)

  • Great song. Wish they would add to their ending set this tour.

  • This is a top 5 song for me! I'm heading to the Giant Center tonite to see the powerful triumvirate from Ontario! Totally psyched!

  • Just. Fuckn. Wow!

  • Great song. Alas, this live version is slightly hurried, and doesn't hold up to the meaningful artistry intended by the writers and performers.

Hey...these guys are brilliant, just not their best performance.

albeit...one of the better versions I can find on youtube. :)

    (in my opinion).

  • exactly as it was meant to be

  • Alex Lifeson is such a creative, sensitive, tender, original, egoless, emotional guitar player. His guitar solos are an art form in themselves.

  • @ushojedi we all have ego! but i agree, alex lifeson is one of the best who ever picked up the guitar!!! he is just incredible...signals is my favourite rush album...

  • @ushojedi You're right, totally agree but he's one of the most underrated guitar player of all times, brainless and heartless people don't give him enough credit. Alex is one of my three favorites and I think he's the best when it comes to playing progressive.

    His solos are ART.

  • @benebenicio alex uses the guitar to make sound effects that fit that particular song, he doesn't just play hard or fast like most of the heavy guitar players. there is always a purpose to his solos, and they are well crafted and played with perfection. not many guitar players can match his artistry or creativity when it comes to solos, although i would consider David Gilmour of Pink Floyd to be in that same category

  • @BLUESMANRONCHICAGO I agree, there's always a purpuse to his solos, in this case The Weapon solo has everything and of course all his solos fit perfectly in so many ways in each song he plays from Limelight to Earthshine, from Xanadu to Freewill so different from another his solos fit so damn good, Alex is so emotional and sensitive guitar player as Gilmour is but I think Alex is more creative.

  • @ushojedi He is indeed an egoless artist, nothing more. I should know, I have argued with myself about Brian, Joe, Eddie, I could name many others. Man showed up in Greensboro NC in an old shirt and played FLAWLESSLY as if it were nothing. Trust me, I have shed tears over Brian May, but Alex? I rest my case.

  • @ushojedi perfect desription. thx.

  • @ushojedi thanks for noticing. ;)

  • @ushojedi damn straight, he is so often overlooked when it comes to naming the great guitar players of rock between the 70's and 90's and beyond!!!

  • @BLUESMANRONCHICAGO I know!! He didn't make the top 100 rolling stone guitarists!!! and you should see some that made it i mean joni mitchell, thurston moore Mark Knopfler, kurt cobain better guitarists than alex lifeson!!!

  • @ushojedi Rush has been SO overlooked when it comes to great rock bands that have stood the test of time, and don't know why!!! Musicianship does not get any better than the three of them, and Neil Peart's lyrics are some of the most intellectual and thought provoking of all time. The Four Parts of Fear prove that out, Witch Hunt is my favorite

  • @ushojedi well said, Alex VERY, VERY underrated when rock guitar players are mentioned. Group itself has never gotten the accolades they deserve, the fact they are not in the hall of fame is a FUCKING TRAVESTY!!!!!

  • OMG!! The solo of this music is just magic! Alex makes it with emotion! Just beautiful and genial! This solo makes me chills!!!

  • killer song, with a killer solo.... this could -still- be a hit

  • I think this is Geddys best look, and the peak for his voice. It just sounds amazing.

  • @philritter21 I completely agree man. These guys had been together for about 8 years. They were just starting to hit their peak. Ged's voice was perfect then though. Now' he is a little all over the place, but still himself. But with age comes great wisdom... Clockwork Angels is cracking up to be an amazing album already.

  • @ChasingXanadu *10 years :)

  • @Chefen92 Ahh... But "The Weapon" was from Signals, which was 8 years from "RUSH" :) this concert was 10 years!

  • ....Even love must be limited by time

  • Hmm...Count Floyd looks awfully familiar..."Gilmore, you suck you jackass!!"

  • peart does the same thing i do when i play this song, tossing his right stick during the intro. copycat.

  • Count Floyd, ftmfw.

  • scarey scarey song...just awesome...love this tune

  • 1/2 D sucks.

Alex should wear those pants on the next tour.

  • This is the definitive version of The Weapon. It blows the already awesome album version out of the water.

  • Geddy Lee, Alex Lifeson, Neil Peart, and oh yeah Joe Flaherty... these people in the audience were never more entertained in their lives. Dammit I can never find my 3d glasses when I need them.

  • Was thinking of this song awhile back...such a great political statement.

  • Was thinking of this song awhile back...such a great political statement.

  • Having no headstock at the end of my bass would screw me up! Feel so weird. also nice slap n' pop at 3:24

  • Having no headstock at the end of my bass would screw me up! Feel so weird.

  • Every time I see them live or watch one of these old vids, it just blows me away!!!! THE three greatest musicions ever!!!!!!!!

  • There is a dislike option on this site....can somebody fix it???

  • @plopowitz I wish I could!

  • This is hands down my favorite live performance.

  • auuuuuhhhh aaauuuuhhhhh aaauuuhhhhhh special song for you.... aauuuuh

  • I was just about to comment on the risk Rush took by going synth heavy which must limit Geddy's ability to simultaneously play bass well HOWEVER, he then lays down crazy bass lines during the verses and the breakdowns - he gives both instruments their due. Is this the work of Cygnus (the god of balance)? And the playing between Geddy and Neil gives Alex such room to just create mood and texture. Alex has the enviable position of not having to carry the band as most guitarists do. Incredible.

  • Love this album...Alex's solo on Chemistry is brilliant.

  • alex looks really happy.

  • Signals was (to me) the defining moment in Rush's career. Instead of making a Moving Pictures retread, they did something totally different and unexpected. I know a lot of people didn't like them going into heavy synthesizers, but now this stuff just seems so awesome. I wish they would incorporate a little more into their current music.

  • OMG ! One of the greatest guitar solos ever

  • I love how Pratt is laying that fat-ass groove down and flipping his stick like its no big thang.

  • @MickAv8r

    Peart.

  • @chitoryu12 LMAO you might want to learn a little bit about the band before you start correcting people....

  • An ending only Rush can pull off - Man I remember seeing them in concert in the early 90's - Hands down the best band to see live to date. I know Kiss puts on a show but Rush has more talent in one of their left testicles. =P

  • My favourite Lifeson solo. Wonderful as he is, listen to what G's doing in the background...sublime :)

  • listening to rush is like listening to like 10 bands in 1 from metal to rock to pop to whatever the future holds they can always pull it off

  • Grace under pressure tour was a shining time for Rush

  • This is epic

  • This is one of my all time favorite vidoes. I can't get enough of it!!

  • Don't know many trios that can fill a stadium with so much sound (2:28)

  • The hardest thing about seeing them live is trying to watch all 3 at once. You look away and you miss something great.

  • THIS FLOODS THE MIND WITH WONERFUL MEMORIES !!

  • @Tomahawk1313 yes so right! dosen"t "the weapon" give euphoric memories of early rush? and i love the rymthic way they end this song.

  • Dogma breeds ignorance and fear.. IE sheeple!

  • 3-d glasses at a concert, talk about cool

  • Very very nice.

    409 comments....wow!

    410 now, I suppose.

    Brilliant song....great video.

    Thank you.

  • I dare anyone to name a better band.

  • The most unique and creative guitar solo it STILL sends chills down my spine!

  • 8 people didnt see the weapon, good thing theres only 8....

  • @RubixTutorial01 Good thing that a Colt 45 has 8 rounds to get rid of them pesky varmints....bet they were:

    1) Kanye West

    2) Paris Hilton

    3) Justin Beiber

4),5) and 6) The Jonas Brothers

    7) Lady Gaga

    8) George W Bush

  • @hamjamnspamalot very tru man

  • @hamjamnspamalot at first i thought you were smart but that George W Bush comment was stupid as hell.

  • 1:11 LOL Alex.

  • The drums parts are very creative and mr. Peart only plays the rule through the song.

  • @adjesbr Simplified brilliance, my friend.

  • great video, but it should have shown nothing but geddy's bass from 6:37 onward.

  • Umm, ya', Sony Walkman. The Rockman was the sound effect box from Tom Scholz. Hello! Had my coffee now!

  • I saw them in the UK in 84 for this same tour, while in the USAF, and was beside myself at the Count Floyd intro (huge SCTV fan from the beginning), but nobody around me had a clue why it was funny.

  • This song has the best ending of all their songs

  • This song has the best endings of all their songs

  • AMAZING how they can sound exacly like thier albums, ya know? thumbs up if you agree

  • @mistyzombie336 because rush is talented and doesnt edit their song like crazy in the studio like most modern bands

  • @mistyzombie336 I wouldn't say its exactly like the album, I'd say its better.

  • @mistyzombie336 alex once said they would never make records using overdubs or anything they could not do onstage. also a key is neil's perfect sense of beat and timing, and the ability to play at the same pace as he did in the studio. that is true musicianship

  • @mistyzombie336 MAN they dont sound exacly like their albums, they sound BETTER!!

  • they make it look soooo easy...but just try it. HA!

  • this is definitely better live. love the whole fear series!

  • I saw them live for the first time in Milan, October 23, 2007. How exciting! An extraordinary performance of the Canadian trio! I recommend everyone learn to know them thoroughly, to see their live concerts, listening to their discography. It 's a sin, not having the fame and recognition that is its due, because this progressive, has always been like jazz, a genre niche unappreciated by the masses. But nowadays, amid a sea of shit, diamonds are always shining! Simply search ..

    UP RUSH FROM ITALY

  • Steinberger- best bass ever invented. It seems to me that Ged was the most exploratory on the bass at the time he was playing that little thing. 1984-1986 live he did some pretty cool stuff on the L-2.

  • @DeltaGaryGordon Yeah he did A LOT of triplets in that time lol

  • I remember this song getting some airplay in October of 83, they'd actually use the Joe Flaherty intro on 101 KLOL and 97 Rock in Houston. IMO this is the best Rush song of all time that wasn't a "hit".

It only got a little airplay because they were mostly playin Subdivisions, New world man, and The Analog Kid

  • @SunsetSupermanRMB Totally correct. I was a new "sony rockman" user (14 years old at the time). No one could get my headphones off (especially from around my mullett). Those three you mentioned were the ones radio played. But this one felt like it was all mine. Genius, pure genius!

  • @bwiley072

    Don't you mean Sony Walkman?

  • Geddy rocking the synth, blazer, mullet and no-head bass. Impressive.

  • BEEN A DEDICATED FAN SINCE 1978 WHEN i BOUGHT 2112. HAVE THIS CONCERT ON VHS WHEN I BOUGHT IT IN 1986. FANTASTIC BAND SEEN EVERY TOUR IN THE UK SINCE THEY TOURED HERE FROM MOVING PICTURES IN '82, SHOOK HANDS WITH ALEX AT SHEFFEILD ARENA ON THE ROLL THE BONES TOUR, AND WAS LUCKY ENOUGH TO SEE THEM EXCEPT NEIL AT MANCHESTER M.E.N. ON THE R30 TOUR. BEST BAND EVER TO WALK THE GILDED STAGE, ROCK ON!

  • "put on your 3d glasses and get ready" ah the 80's wait its making a come back!!!

  • @6:44 geddy should be arrested for beat the hell out of those strings !!!

  • Fall of 2011, Clockwork Angels is their new album, playing a song called "Caravan" on their tour now, from that album and it's going to be awesome and I'm totally excited because they're going to tour AGAIN, they always tour for their albums

  • that solo starting at 5:26 just takes the song into a whole new realm.

    F'ing phenominal..

  • @buzzcrushtrendkill Totally agree on the solo. Fantastic song!

  • fantastico show.... esa epoca era muy buena,.... lo mejor de Rush..

  • 3 of the worlds best musicians in 1 band......how lucky are we guys? (Shame about Alexs hair!) :)

    Love Rush

  • The Weapon is not from Grace Under Pressure, its a single from the Signals album. Though I'm sure it was played during the Grace tour.

  • This must be one of the hardest songs 2 rememebr and play on the drums just listen to it

  • spieltechnisch vom anderen stern einfach nur geil

  • I never understood why neil wore a hat on this song, they even show him throwing it off at the end of the song on the dvd.

Great song and video intro anyway

  • @Digikid313 The hat is literally attached to the headphones. When you're drumming, it's very easy for headphones to fall off.

  • @usenetsolon ok, then why does he only wear them for this song?

  • @Digikid313 He wears them for songs in which there is a synthesizer sound dictating the tempo (like Red Sector A), because he needs to stay in sync with keyboard sound.

  • @Digikid313 Neil said somewhere that he wear the hat because the headphone stay much steady on his head!

  • alex's solo is just fantastic...soars with emotion.

  • @717mienbao "Soars" is just the right word! Alex is so brilliant, and I love his work during the verses; it's so intricate.

  • @717mienbao per usual... ;)

  • @717mienbao many of alex's solos soar, I like the one he does in Afterimage, and his accoustic solo that leads into The Trees on exit stage left

  • @BLUESMANRONCHICAGO

Ah yes, Broon's Bane was my positive and hooking introduction into what is modernly perceived as medieval music.

  • Hey, it's the dad from freaks and geeks

  • when SIGNALS came out, a good friend of mine called me saying: "hey, have you bought the new Rush album? please don't do it! it's really bad, they changed their style totally, now they are playing more with keyboards and synths, don't buy it, it's a p.o.s. .... nowadays when we have a beer together, we always remember how wrong he was, I bought the album and became one of my favorites, musical evolution that is!

  • @Kaguamax "and the knowledge that they fear, is a weapon to be used against them"

  • @Kaguamax well said and agreed 100%!!

  • That is funny I cried when I heard it and now I think it is there best. I just wish I would have seen them during the singals tour I had the chance. :-(

  • @Kaguamax Haha!

  • @Kaguamax hahahaha man this is my all time fav album, and u know what when i first heard it I only liked the weapon but it was a cassette in 82 and I was simply lazy to fast forward so in a way i had to hear the whole thing and It was a torture, it wook me full 2 years to digest it.....weird eh....

  • @Kaguamax I think he was right initially. What beer were you drinking at the time? ;) No serious, they are amazing, but set too high a standard to maintain prior to Signals.
