I've been having my parrotlets for a year now, sweet little guys, but they get naughty sometimes :) They really don't like my mom changing their food or water dish or coming close to their cage while they are inside, once they see her they throw a tantrum (: but outside they are nice to everyone
@Lorisek I'm glad you think his trick is cute. I do too. I probably should change the title since a lot of people don't remember the "Stupid Pet Tricks portion of the David Letterman Show" That is all it is referring to.
airsoftmad39 it is very rude of u to call ppl and their pets jerks. It was called Bean doing a stupid trick because it's fun for him to do.
From my side, Bean is very cute and I can't stop watching him doing tricks, it just so so so cute cute cute! I'm getting a 5 or a 6 week old parrotlet soon but now he is only 3 weeks old so it's owner said it's better for me to let him keep it and handfeed it until it is 5 or 6 weeks old because I don't know how to handfeed. Parrotlets are simply so cute!!!
My parrotlet Izzy(female) needs to start catching up! she only lays on her back for about 5 seconds until she decides she's bored and gets up to attack her reflection and then waddle back to me to show her my gratitude for being a good little attack bird. she also is a little slow on talking. just mimicking my keys on computer keyboard so far lol. but i do hear that male parrotlets are more prone to talking sooo.
The title is a take off of a feature on the David Letterman Show called "stupid pet tricks" People would come out with their pet and usually the trick was not stupid at all but very unique and sometimes funny. That is all.
AW good job bean!! i have a parrotlet also, but she is kinda dumb... she plucked all of her feathers on her body off, so she is a bald bird. bean is a cutie :D
UHM you should NOT be dissing my responsibility. she plucked her feathers out because of depression. we used to have 2 birds but the other on died. so holy crap, CHILL. and btw i play with my bird every day.
Just because it lost it's buddy does not mean it automatically spirals into depression and plucks its own feathers. I mean, how many bald birds do you see in the wild? And besides, you just said your bird plucked it's feathers because it's 'dumb'. You've made it apparent that you don't give two shits about your bird.
im sorry but im not in any mood to have a stupid fight with somebody i dont know. i love my bird and i was kidding when i said she is dumb. so please stop replying to my comments and i am sorry for commenting and saying that!
I'm not looking for a fight either, it just sucks when people are careless enough to allow this kind of shit happen to their birds. That's it. Good day.
It happened sort of by accident. I was trimming his toenails and when I opened my hand he lay there for a few seconds. I'm actually surprised he still liked me after trimming his toenails. So then we started doing the trick for family and friends and he started laying there longer and longer.
I am so sorry for your loss of Kiki. I know how you feel. Before Bean, I had two parrotlets on different occasions who died before their first year. I was completely heartbroken. I feel very lucky that Bean has been healthy for so long. Perhaps it's because I got him from a different breeder. Thank your for your note. I am grateful for every moment that Bean is with me.
Thanks, and I have to say that getting another parrotlet is a good idea. You won't forget about how special Kiki was but you will once again have a parrotlet in your life and that is a good thing. vbg!
hey how old was bean when he u started teaching him these tricks? my parrotlet is 7 1/2 weeks and i just got him 4 days ago..so far i taught him step ups but thts it..
Bean is 5 years old. He's only started mimicking sounds in the last year and a half. Step ups are a good first trick. Getting him to do other things just takes time. Get to know him and what he likes to do. I kiss Bean a lot and cup him in my hands but he still won't let me preen his feathers. I did not set out to teach tricks. It just evolved over time. Make sure your birdy has lots of toys. Things to shred are also a favorite.
haw old is he

Alot of small animals can do this, for some reason they will lay dead if you gently hold them on their back.

if they pluck their own feathers that,s a sign of stress...

Dipshit your parrots not dumb, its bored. They need attention and stimulation of the brain, like a dog. You need to take better care of your bird.

BUT... i failed... he has to do that if i hold his belly.... with my finger! He cant do it on his own...:(

Keep gently trying. I had to hold Bean's belly with my finger, then it was a finger on his side, and then not at all. Good luck.
