Check out the live instrumental version of this song by Beck..you will understand why Beck is considered probably the most original and feeling of the three Page; Clapton and Beck:)
I read an article that claimed that Hendrix was the king, and 3 guitar princes were Clapton, Page and Beck. The article went on to say that when Beck wasn't being "crazy" he was the best of the 3 and even rivaled the king. I personally think SRV is better than all of them, but I'm not privy to all of their work. No offense meant. I love what I know. Love this song for the guitar work.
Is Jeff Beck really that good? You just don't hear that much about him like you do some of the other guitar players, but I'd rank him way way up there with the best of them. Man can he play?
Jeff Beck was using massive feedback to enhance sustain as far back as the pre-Yardbird gigs with the Tridents. Way earlier than Hendrix.
The Beck biography "Crazy Fingers" is an awesome reference and a must-read for any Beck fan. Jeff does things that no other guitarist even attempts. Try listening to "Where Were You" and see if you have the chops to pull that one off. It's not reasonable to call JB the best guitarist since that is not a reasonable question to ask, but he's absolutely rare.
Beck is certainly the ONLY one of his peers to get better and better throughout his career...Page and Clapton peaked before 1980. Beck is STILL getting better..check out his current live release for reference.
Jeff is that good. Many famous musicians say there is none better... Ted Nugent, Alice Cooper, Joe Walsh are among the many who say they've never seen a better player.
I used to wonder why Rod made such an awesome song in the southern US Gospel style. Then I realized he was from Scotland and it made sense. THAT is where we got our country western style back in the day, from the old Scottish folk music.
4:17 Jeff Beck tries to shoot Rod & his "new friend" with a death ray from the Tele's headstock. MTV airbrushed out the death ray and the song continues.
I wrote that Jeff tried to shoot Rod and his (Rod's) "new friend" referring to the woman that he's dancing with. Learn how to read before commenting, please.
Wow. The vocal/guitar note at 3:38 gives me chills; from there, Jeff's guitar attack leading up to the note at 4:01 is just incredible. Fantastic stuff.

I just LOVE the squeaky clean rythym sound Beck uses, and the key change is sublime.

Great song and teo great performers.
Rod is so great when he actually sings material that has soul and depth such as this song and his own early work both solo and with The Faces.
Jeff Beck is an amazing player, and is at times too far from the public conscience when the Guitar greats are mentioned, just my humble opinion.

I don't like much Stewart but this song and Beck's guitar are magnificent. Good vocals from Stewart as well.
