  • AUNTSARA- strong black woman, the madea, the "mammie". SIFFRONIA- confused biracial girl in an identity crisis. is she beautiful or an "abomination"?. she suffers. SWEET THANG- the tan light skinned black woman w/ curly fro easily straightened.( probably mixed w/ latino/middle eastern/white). pretty but loose. she is the vixen, the "slut" who has deeper issues and seeks comfort in men's arms. PEACHES- irate black woman. brown skin. tough attitude after a hard life.easily mistaken for "ghetto"

  • Reflections Eternal (Hitek And Talib Kweli) did justice to Mama Nina Simone with their a song with the same title on the their album "Train Of Thought"

  • I'LL kill the first Mother I see...*

  • my name is siffronia

  • I just finished a cover of this song on my channel. I sang it first at my graduation from college, but I wanted to revisit it here on my channel for posterity.... :-) Bless, KIA MUZE :-)

  • One of the most profound songs dealing with women. Only Nina could have done it as she could...

  • its beautiful when powerful poetry and sweet music form such a timeless work of art.

  • Talib Qweli pays homage to this in his Expansion Outro. Check it out, it's on the album Train of Thought

  • gawd Nina is amazing!!

  • OMG! this song the first time I heard it, it literally gave me goosebumps. The pain, the cries of these four black women. Ms. Simone has captured thier cries so beautifully. For all of you who don't hear or understand what I'm saying please educate yourselves on how to correctly interpret music. This song is not racial, it highlights black women's sufferage. It specifically highlights, the stereotypes that our black sistas have had to endure whilst battling for equality.

  • My dad named my after nina simone n now i like her music, thnks dad

my interruptation of this song, dnt judge

these are all sad sterotypes the darker your skin the more resistent to pain (Aunt Sarah) Mixed children are a product of rape (siffronia) certain black women are prostitutes sweet thing oh but peaches seemed alright

  • as the tan one I get it. So many men want to sleep with me and I cannot stand it. I don't mind being attractive, no- I love it. But I want to be married. Someones wife and treasure not someones whore. I don't even have sex! I'm waiting until I am married and they don't take no for an answer. I was so stupid and weak back in the day. I was raped twice and I will die before I put myself into another situation. I will not do it. I will not. I love Nina. She sings for the woman who has no morelove

  • @callmetricia i understand exactly how you feel

  • @callmetricia

Being raped does not make you weak and stupid :) the pigs who raped you are that. Do not put yourself down not all men are bad. Don't worry soon enough you will find a lovely man who will treat you right for you and who doesn't want to only sleep with you. :)

  • @lapizlalily

*To understand pain, one does not need to be black or be a woman.*

No--sadly, one need only be human.

  • @tonywrestles2 but how shall we understand each other? jump into another one's skin?

  • @tonywrestles2 i don't think she was talking about humans feeling pain, but the pain inflicted cause of their orgins and the color of their skin, as black women.

  • @tonywrestles2 , but to be a Human that is a Black Woman..you know pain like no other could!

  • @MzzDivaWitEdge09 r u kidding me? this song makes me feel proud to be black and a woman! this song is about the many types of black women. In such a short song she explained the history and wonder colors of beautiful black people through slavery, rape, and media exploitation.

    such a powerful song...amazing.

  • @SoYahYah i never said it wasn't a good song. It just rubs me the wrong way is all im saying

    My name is Gillette Foamy

    Peace Homie

  • @gillettefoamy HAHAHAAAA

  • @gillettefoamy : I figure you posted this post in the "spirit of fun" but this song is beautiful. it does not need to be degraded by your not so funny post. The woman who sang it was, is and always will be a musical and civil rights legend. Please treat her music and memory with respect.

  • @mvuyiful - What do you mean? Why so upset? Have you been using Barbasol again? No disrespect from me. This is a real song - I wrote it and sing it to myself every time I shave, and sometimes even when I'm not shaving. But I LOVE to shave, especially with Gillette Foamy, so like I said... peace homie.

Now... where did I put that razor....? AHA!!!!!!!! Here it is!!!! Yes! Yes!! YES!!!!!! Time to use the Gillette Foamy!!!! And once again, AHA!!!!!!! Here is the Gillette Foamy!!!!!!

  • @gillettefoamy - HA HA HA bloody HA! But I'll let your Barbasol comment slide bcoz I'm such an understanding beautiful human being.

  • @JazmynLikezMusic i think thats a great idea

  • YES Full of Emotion...I love this song.... Powerful

  • @britt094life: Nina Simone is a woman....her voice is just different and distinct. Besides her lyrics and talent, she was very important during the Civil Rights movement. Jazz icon is what I think.

  • O_o sound like a man.....is...is it a man umm not sure

  • I love the musical buildup to the final high note on "peaches!"

  • i feel as if the lyrics aren't 100%. But i like how this songs speaks to almost every generation of black women.

  • Just had to hear this song again, after getting back from seeing Colored Girls....Wow!

  • THANK GOD for Nina Simone. Love Nina. So true . . . we are so diverse. Wonder what song she would have sung at the inauguration? Maybe, 'Young Gifted and Black'? Love that one too.

  • /watch?v=kl0WBdbB0L4

CHECK IT OUT , THIS IS GREAT. Sampel from this song rocks

  • I was listening to this song and someone asked me, "Why do you like this song? You're not even black!" And I replied to them, "I don't have to be black to like this song!"

  • @angieisafeline I think it speaks to all women! good response!

  • @angieisafeline That's right! Tell'em girl!

  • @angieisafeline As a Black person, I agree with you! i say this song gives ANYONE just the briefest of glimpses of what it is like to be Black. Besides good music is good music

  • @angieisafeline i know thats right

  • @angieisafeline That's right, you don't have to be black to relate to human pain. Pain has no color......Right on!

  • @angieisafeline This reminds me of when I was 11 and I was dancing and singing along in my house to James Brown's Say it loud, I'm black and proud! (my sister's record.) I am white, and English was not even my mother tongue and therefore I did not yet understand what exactly he meant, but I had long black hair and that's why I felt it was okay to sing along. It somehow gave me strength. At 52, soul music is still high on my list of fave music and will always be. Huge Nina Simone fan too!

  • @angieisafeline hahaha hahaha lol i can dig it, i like (white) people like you

  • @angieisafeline

You certainly do not. The sheer emotion in this song transcends inconsequentials like race.

  • @angieisafeline you don't even have to be black to relate to a lot of the points in this song either ;)

  • This song is so powerful.

  • Nina Simone originally sang this song...if ur into words of songs listen to her

  • This is a VERY POWERFUL song!

  • I am far from a softie and I teared up when I heard this. And they did tear it up last night!!!!!!!!

  • The lyrics are completely wrong in the descipt :-\

  • wow!!! they tore this song up last night! i had to find out where it came from!

  • Kelly Price, Marsha Ambrosius, Jill Scott, and Ledisi ROCKED this song last night on the Black Girls Rock show on BET.

  • @Impulsensx yes they did. they sung that song

  • tears to my eyes!

  • This song is epic! It has such great lyrics!

  • 4 beautiful black women 4 different out take on life just wonderful

  • wow is all i can say such a powerful song im just...........speechless

  • 6 ppl must be a racist :-/

  • This the song from the movie For Colored Girls

  • wow i loved that she talked about biracial girls too we are all in this together ladies we need to support eachother luv you guys

  • @hannahjuani101 We love you too

  • i honestly don't understand how 6 people can "not" like this...i'm dubstruck

  • @felice0913 if this is shocking to you...God, you better get ready for LIFE...did you know alot of people think it's ok to kill people? ah oops we're in iraq, its ok let's vote them back him and KILL KILL KILL....and ur worried because 6 people dont like this song??? Those 6 people are probably the 6 that DO support war...so nothing shocking there my friend. Carry on

  • This song is a result of all the pain fromthe racism that this singer and other black women may have experienced back in those that time. So fuck what you gotta say about race relations in 2010...stay within the context of the song. If you can't handle a touchy subject then be on to the next one.

  • The end gives me straight chills..

    Aint talking bout no Anemia...

  • Thanks for the post!

  • umm ...could someone explain the "peaches" reference at the end of the song to me???

    Thanks.

  • @SuniDays87 The peach tree (Prunus persica) is a species of Prunus native to China that bears an edible juicy fruit called a peach. It is a deciduous tree growing to 4–10 m (13–33 ft) tall, belonging to the subfamily Prunoideae of the family Rosaceae. It is classified with the almond in the subgenus Amygdalus within the genus Prunus, distinguished from the other subgenera by the corrugated seed shell. YOUR WELCOME.

  • @iran2025 Great use of wikepedia!

  • @iran2025 Good explaination, lol.

  • @SuniDays87 Peaches is the name of the last of the Four Women, the one who is most militant. All in all: Aunt Sarah, Siffronia, Sweet Thing (the victims) and Peaches (the warrior).

  • @SuniDays87 I think peaches references the tough African American woman. In my experience, all the really tough girls had the softest nicknames. No offense.

  • my name is...

    PEACHESS!!!!!!

I find that part funny. But this song is very powerful. I love it.

  • my new nickname is...peaches...

  • Races doesn't exist, we created them. Beauty doesn't exist either, we created it as well. That proves how shallow and stupid human beings can be, why can't we just change that?

  • @LongLiveMyMusic I PRAY every night that one day things will change and everyone will be considered equal. maybe when some that has great power and influence over this world. they will set things straight...

  • @LongLiveMyMusic One of the dumbest things to say is that race doesn't exist because then you are ignoring the fact that it does, that there are massive differences between races, and that it is those same differences that make us beautiful and unique.

Anyways, this song is beautiful, and the last stanza is quite empowering.

  • @LongLiveMyMusic I sort of understand what you're saying. I often wonder who came up with the things that we know. Who said things are what they are? My husband says that I think too hard. We always discuss why is orange orange and why can't it be red? Theres more from where that came from but I will never know until I meet God if that is even his/her name. But until I find out, he will be known as such. Only he/she knows.

  • Anyone knows who sang "Four Women" in Tyler Perry's Trailer "For Colored Girls"?

  • @msbblova I'm fairly certain it hasn't been revealed yet, I too have been searching high and low. I do want to see it's Anika Noni Rose singing it for the movie though.

  • @me21252 @msbblova On the soundtrack listing has been revealed and it says it's Four Women – By Nina Simone, Simone, Laura Izibor & Ledisi. Maybe they all sing a verse ??

  • @jake27990 guess i lied, tyvm.

  • @msbblova i believe its her becasue i saw her name on the soundtrack listing.

  • @msbblova on the trailer, it's actually Nina's voice. But on the soundtrack of the movie, it's her daughter, who is a recording artist that just goes by Simone.

  • @SexNSiditty Really it's Nina's voice on the trailer? cause it sounds alot different then on this version for example the part where it goes " my mouth is like wine"
