Think outside the box a bit. The hardest part is actually getting on site. I know people on the site where I work who applied for kitchehand and domestic jobs with Sodexo (catering, admin, etc) and used the connections they made to go into other types of work. Even the cleaning and dishpig jobs pay pretty good.

Contrary to popular belief, you don't have to kiss arse. Nobody likes a kiss-arse. Just keep your head down, don't talk shit or gossip, and stay in control when you get on the piss.

Hi im about to start a certificate III course in mining exploration at east perth tafe, is this a good start to a career in mining? could it end up leading to a jumbo operator job? That's the area i want to get into... and will i still need a HR license even if i complete the course?

Im 34 and looking for a job up in the mines. Got my HR, forkies(15 yrs exp), dogging, basic rigging...about to get MARCSTA and first aid. Registered with a few places so far..just waiting. Just wondering if i am too old for an apprenticeship....really wouldnt mind doing a trade.

its not as hard as you think mate, pull your finger out and go do a MARCSTA course, Senior first aid course than apply for an entry level job like drillers offsider, it may be hard work and shit conditions, but hey, its fukin great pay, gets u experience to get other jobs in the mining industry eventually. i spent atleast a month gettin shit organised and just keep tryin untill u get a chance.

I have to chuckle at these. It aint as easy as it seems boys and girls. Working in some of the most inhospitible places in Australia. A lot of people dont last. If it was all that great they wouldn't have to advertise overseas for workers.
