That is the super popular 4 chord progresion used by everybody from the Beatles to Michael Jackson. Just about any progression with I IV and V will see a lot of use though as those are the major chords in a scale.

Just my opinion:

Ok so here's this song in a nutshell: First part: Mainstream music sucks, and no matter what an artist says in the verse, it's the hook that makes you like the song, or "brings you back" to the song. Fast Bridge part: He's saying he writes his songs about love, and rage, hate, pain, and fear of self (real life issues) no matter if it means financial suicide (lack of record sales). And only once he's dead will he follow the trend of hip 3-minute ditties :)
