  • This IS Music !!!

  • love the manhattans up there with the Decisions

  • corrections to calwraite!! the lead -singer wasn't Blue Lovett! although he was with the group, he was bass singer on the group! The lead vocals of the group before he passed away in the early 70s is the late great George" Smitty" Smith BIGBADLAMONT

  • correction, blue did share lead on this song, that blue that comes in at 1:20sec.

  • Oh my God!!! I did not know that this was the Manhattans!! I was looking for this tune for like....forever!! I must get this in my collection..great post...thanks!!!

  • great version.....the Jimi Hendrix version is good too...

  • This is"Smitty" Smith on lead. Also on the Deluxe label, after they left Carnival.Jersey City will also be proud of these guys.

  • Nothing else to say about this than, Pure Class all the way!!

  • Whoaaaaa. THIS-SHIT-IS-THE-BOMB!

I've been looking all over for this; and just happened to stumble onto it.

I always thought the name of it was "To bring me back, baby.'

Thanks so much for posting this.

    I can die happy now.

this was the one song that I really wanted to hear but never could find.

I didn't know this was the Manhattans; and I'm a Manhattans Fan.

  • XS, you got their earliest stuff?? "I Wanna Be," "Follow Your Heart," all that? I'll burn it all for you and send to you...I got stuff back in the 60's, early 60's, by them.

  • "Teach Me The :Philly Dog," "Searching For My Love?"

  • I have this 45 still -- my first favorite Manhattans' song! The best group, next to The Temptations, ever...

  • @calwaite HAD THE PLEASURE KNOWING THEM DURRING THETHE ALSTON ERA RE ISSUE ON CARNIVAL AND DELUXE GREAT. THE GREATESE WAS THE TEMPTS BUT GERALD FRONTED BETTER THAN THEM ALL LEVERT TEDDY LEVI THE SCOTT BOYS THE LIST GOES ON AND ON

  • No doubt about it -- Gerald was as good as a lead singer can be. He had a little bit different sound than David Ruffin, Levi (who was sensational live), Teddy, and the other greats, in that he wasn't a gospel shouter type at all, but smooth and pure as honey. He still sounds exactly like he always did. Ever hear Blue Lovett lead an entire song? Spectacular voice, just off the hook. Early (60's and early 70's) Whispers another of my favorites, and Johnnie Taylor, the best solo soul singer ever!

  • If you like this take a listen to 'I'm the one love forgot'
