First- Head East, then Rainbow, and then Clout. In each rendition of the Russ Ballard classic- its all great. Simply because Russ is an excellent songwriter.
The original is by Russ Ballard who wrote it. It's posted here on YouTube. Russ was a major songwriter in the late70's and early 80's. Among others he wrote:
I Surrender - Rainbow
Winning - Santana
New York Groove - Hello / Ace Frehley
I Know There's Something Going On - Frida (ABBA)
Liar - Three Dog Night
God Gave R'n'R to You - Argent / Kiss
Riding with the Angels - Samson
Talented man. His self-titled 1984 solo album is brilliant.
Yes I know he wrote these songs, got most of them but did he actually record them as well, if you know of them of YT will you send them me, as it is easier than looking for them if you already have them in you fave, dont bothe with the Hello & Frida vids, if you can thanks.
He recorded 'Since You Been Gone', 'Winning', and 'Riding with the Angels' solo and 'God Gave R'R...' with Argent. The search feature on YT is your friend.
It must be thirty years til now since I've heard this version. Once Rainbow's version hit the airwaves, no other version before it would seem to get an airing.
