  • God! the old Tide ad he was using an old twin tub Washing Machine!

  • This was the era of powdered drinks and powdered food, now the pendulum has swung the other way and fresh food is the ideal.

  • For a second I thought Frank Windsor was going to sell me a life insurance plan.

  • Why do so many old cereals look like pet food?

  • Man alive, I've actually been waiting 31 years to see that Fiat Supermirafiori ad in full...

  • One question, if Rawlings knew long before you-know-who, how come you-know-who is the better known brand?

  • NEW Kellog's rise and shine powdered Orange...or an Innocent Smoothie...hmmm...perhaps I do prefer being in 2008 after all...

  • Tandoori why do we call it indian tonic water!!! try getting away with that nowadays.

  • Wow 1978 now these are old ads indeed. Nice one Col. Although I have no memory of these as I was only born in July 1978.

  • Intense!

  • very good once again.

  • The Fiat Supermirafiori ad has a very specifically 1978 open, airy look. The caption at the end of the Skoda Super Estelle ad has a peculiarly compelling bleakness and *stylelessness* (I think the "man on the street on the road" font is the same one dropped by Radio Times in 1969!).

The car in the Chrysler ad is S-reg, so it's probably not the later part of 1978. At the end, we're clearly in summer 1978 because the TV Times ad is for 1-7 July that year.

  • you should have been a detective. respect.

  • The Skoda Super Estelle and style didn't really go together did it?

The Skodas which we see today are a vast improvement. Mike S.

  • My dad currently drives an Octavia, and he says it's one of the best cars he's ever owned.

  • During the communist era, Skoda were told what to build by the Soviet Union. Up to 1987 they were not allowed to make a car bigger than 1200cc

  • Arthur Lowe from the tonic water advert

  • That Rise and Shine was like drinking a glass of sand.

Is that Brian Blessed doing v/o in the meat ad? A bit ironic methinks. And why advertise the stuff? Either you want it, or you don't.

  • Did you inherit a box of Betamax tapes or something.

  • No, I received some DVDs a few years ago with these...

  • "Tea - Best Drink of the Day". I've not seen that advert with the dog for nearly 30 years. Thanks very much for this and your excellent series of old adverts from LWT and Thames.
