  • 2012 is the new 1981. Same old ruling party, same old bullshit.

  • This was effectively the follow-up to Ghost Town - has there ever been 2 30 year old songs released back to back that are so relevant to both then & now???

  • the Tea Party anthem.

  • "Jungle BEAT!!!!!"

  • captures the mood perfectly....that of insanity

  • this was awesome

  • Im not sure I've ever seen, or heard anything lamer than this. :-S

  • omg best tune ever

  • @TheAlienesque Yeh don't come back eh?

  • They are singing about Obama and his Legion of Demon Administration, aren't they?

  • at the end it sounds like he says "the polyjuicing and daleking"

  • Can't believe it's been 30 years since first hearing this great tune! "Go nuclear" the Cowboy told us, and who am I to disagree- cause when that Madman flips the switch, the nuclear will go for me.....

  • GEniuS,,,,BRing THE BOYs bACK XXXX

  • obama on rolling stone magazine cover was the death of vox (vocalizing points of view) basicly free speach.its government approved rock wnd roll.LINLIN PARK (or their anagram ,their real name LIKIN KRAP n or LADY? (by surgical knife maybe) GAGA (real name (anogram) A GAY LAD g) technology is it such a level that if film some sony ass licker doing a cats cradle tweak it speed it up and multiply it u have ,wha tprimarily appears to be quite a cool dance move until u open ur mind a little.

  • today this would probably not get on mtv because it is trying to convey a message other than ,getting fuct up //out of control on legal or illegal drugs ,with ur brain below ur belt so we keep mindlessly consuming and blind to the truth, and the truth is IGNORING TRUTHs, such as this song is trying to convey, LEADS TO IGNORANCEand IGNORANCE is blind to the truth and the truth is innocent people are being tortured and lkilled in the name of freedom .keep sending troops to die.

  • This song is beautiful as it is relevant. Where are the Fun Boy Three today?

  • @zidmt the white guy was gang raped by the other 2 and then the too black guys started fighting over crack and shot each other

  • good times during those days in England. 'Oi' may the soccer hooligans take back the country from the muslims

  • if (God forbid) Sarah Palin becomes President, i will be blasting this song.

  • @tsartodd Sad to say, but the President of the US is just a puppet no matter who the president is. The banks, the CEOs, the corporations, Wallstreet, The Rockefellers, The Kolh Brothers, the very, very rich, etc. now own the US and run the country.

  • @queercat I think they wish they had the royal family back lol.

  • Conservatives Manifesto!

  • @Kaisergill Conservative manifesto? I was praying they were just keeping the seats warm and not taking over the asylum. It's sad.. it is like like thatcher's butcher tactics all over again :(

  • @musicmaninthesky IDIOT !!

  • Masterful.

  • Jerry Sadowitz who appeared in Terry Blair&Anouchka's video of Ultra Modern Nursery Rhymes, complained that this video infringed upon his copyright. Jerry's been replaced.

It has taken 5 months to do this!

Although angry with Jerry, I am also grateful because, I would have never learned Adobe After Effects and graphic animation. So thank you Jerry!

Jerry has been replaced by a number of colourful characters! Marc Bolan even makes an appearance! Bet he won't complain??!!!

  • ha ha ha I remember this one!!!! :))

  • This song is amazing. I first heard when Adam Buxton played it on BBC Radio 6, so thanks to him. So far ahead of its time, don't you think? Up there with Ghost Town for mournful political downtempo perfectly crafted pop genius, in my view.

  • Please give me a thumb if you like this, because i think this really sucks

  • @arcticnoordpool Glad to see that a full a full 8 months on you're still in a minority of 1. Now that's what I call an exclusive club!

  • The lunatics of course being the BANKING ELITES.

  • @NowisEvollovetion Alternativly, the Reagan Administration.

  • @ConciseOxford100 Yes the BANKING ELITES were behind Reagan's administration as well.

  • Great song.

  • Damon Alabrn is like Terry Hall's little brother, in terms of musical style

  • ahhh thatcher era comes back

  • ahhh thatcher era comes back

  • live?, on totp in 1982? your taking the piss

  • why are the hand drums there exactly?

  • So this is what Nicholas Cage was doing in 1981.

  • Reminds me of Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon, particularly the track Brain Damage. Which is to say, this song is awesome.

  • What did he say in the end? Apologies for the what?

  • @MrKorton Daleking. Look up Dalek on wikipedia

  • @jarvmeister I looked it up, it´s an alien robot, but what has that got to with anything?

  • I LOVE THIS SONG ITS AWSOME

  • shit thom shit

  • The lunatics may have had control of the asylum.....fortunately they were voted out at the last election. Let's hope some sanity may now prevail.

  • @jameseyboy73 They were singing about the Thatcher Government you numpty

  • @phryar Seeing as this song was recorded in 1981, they were hardly singing about the result of the 2010 General Election, were they? Have you never heard of irony?

  • seriously Thom? you are recommending this? or was it just the hair?

  • This backdrop sounds so MIDI. Oh and... Thom.

  • Thom's music taste++

  • gracias thom nos tenias olvidados!

  • The thatcherites have taken over the asylum

  • Thom.

  • just as david cameron is made Prime Minister.

  • Thom's right on, lunatics indeed

  • You're right, Terry Hall looks very cute here. =D

    Great song, by the way.

  • same chord progression as "drip fred fred!!" - maybe it's the key to write awesome songs?!

  • I NEED THE CHORS FOR THIS SONG! i cant find them anywhere!

    please help me!

  • Easy

    A minor D minor E

  • Just checked this out on the guitar. Bars separated by commas.

    Cm (on G), Cm (on G), G, G ,G ,G, Cm (on G), Cm (on G)

The bassline seems to stick to G with the above, and the chord sequence is I believe repeated throughout the entire song.

Leifura's arrangement can also be played, replacing the 3rd and 4th G chords with E. Although in a different key, the chord fingering is easier. (previous comment would have confused slightly hence its removal).

    Happy playing.

  • mmm, props for your efforts! :D

  • i bend the E on bass

  • @monsieurtechnical what are you on??

  • @monsieurtechnical FUCKING ANORAK

  • terry hall ,were is he now?

  • I love it!!

  • great song the best from FB3

  • Terry had a great hair style then

  • Good but nowhere near as good as The Specials.

  • For me much better than the special sound. SPecials to much positive happy sound. FB3 more differnet kind of styles and much less happy.

  • This gets a mention in "The Growing Pains of Adrian Mole" and I just had to youtube it! It's cool!

  • Our US government...TIME TO TAKE A STAND AMERICA!!!

  • This was written at the time of and about Margaret Thatcher, as was Stand down Margaret,by the Beat (or as you probably know them the English Beat). The Farm and Pete Wylie also did songs about the old slag. Mind you, I see what you mean, but it's not confined to America.

  • We are lucky to still be able to see this....

behold fun boy three....... where are you now?

  • great to hear this given an airing in the first episode of the new series of Life on Mars

  • was still in"LUUURVEEE" with Terry at this point, even his silly hair do:)

  • *Especially* his silly hair do ;) Love this so much. They harmonize relly well. I was not as familiar with this song (I know! hard to believe.. it realls is) but it's a winner. I just have to say that I *really* love the pants (short type of the very early-80s.. not Capris or skater pants.. just shorter and loose-ish) Terry wears in "Our Lips Are Sealed." Are you with me on this or.. ? :)

  • Its just hair they all wear in the 80 s in england bands?

  • Thanks for posting this! I've heard this a number of times as bumper music on the Mike Malloy show & have been trying to track it down for quite a while now, & then a friend shared this on Facebook today! :-)

  • Is this the new uk national anthem?

  • This video makes me happy that youtube exists. What a blast from the past...

  • Not to worry! lol!

    Great song.

  • I love this song.

Unfortunately it was often buzzing through my head during the W administration.

Now that that's over I can enjoy it and think about it again, rather than think about it too much.

  • EXACTLY!!! I'm glad that it wasn't just the soundtrack running through my mind during those 8 years! :D

  • Me too naganokumas & Phantasma25

For 8 years every time he appeared on TV this gently drifted through my head

  • Makes me worry that my 6 year old son loves this song. I was playing it the other day & he says its his favoutite song. At least he seems to have some taste!!!

  • I feel like this after a day at work. lol

  • marthagmc that is the best comment ive ever read on utube!, totally agree!

  • You made my day Speranza65! I'm guessing you've felt the same way-lol

  • Pleasure!, yeah, 5 days a week in rainy Manchester, stuck in that mind-numbing office with the cast from Royston Vasey for company... pass me the whisky! :-)

  • It sounds mysterious in a cool way!!

  • This should be played EVERY day ALL day outside the House of Commons and White House -great song guys!

  • Love this song.

  • makes me glad i am alive this

  • Terry is a legend! He was the only one who could match Weller for coolness

  • why not full version?(beginning)

  • Medication time... :)

  • brill

  • Anyone who was in their early teens when this was out will get a buzz of nostalgia listening to this...... excellent track!!

  • Deadpan voices..and really interesting hair=clever!

  • After watching the Republican National Convention I had an itch that just seemed to need scratching. Ahhhhh... that's it. This song would have suited well for closing the convention. Sarah Palin? Give me a break!

  • brill

  • Wow I forgot all about this song

Good one Thanks for posting rubbeet

  • Damon Albarn and Blur borrowed heavily from this song in writing and recording the song "Top Man" for the 1995 Blur album "The Great Escape". There are other Specials/TerryHall/FunBoy3 touches on that album, too...people rarely comment on the Specials' influence on Blur.

  • Oh definitely. I can also hear a similarity between "Sock it to em JB" and "closet romantic" by Damon A...."stereotype", "stereotypes"...there are more, I'm just too tired to think of them now. I know Terry Hall even made an appearance at one of Blur's shows.

  • Good call! I forgot about "Closet Romantic"! Totally. :) And "Death of a Party" on the orange Blur album sounds like "Ghost Town" somewhat. Much of Damon's output indebted to Terry and Dammers in a good way.

  • True, true...when you think about it though, these guys made such great music, who wouldn't want to borrow from it. :)

  • Great song! Thank you for posting it!

  • ain't it the truth, though?

    true in the 80s.

    even truer now!

love this video: sarcastic and serious all at once!

  • Thanks for sending! Very theatrical, in a good way...catchy melody and like those choruses of crazies!

  • daves taken over the asylum

  • ahhh, this is great! Love it!
