Honestly a bad hit. I'm a penguins fan and I know that this was not a good hit... However, I think there is a lot that could've been done by both players. If I was in Cole's position I would never stop 4 feet from the boards, mainly because I would expect a hit. I would be either still moving or be hugging the boards. @Azaereth When a player has the puck, he is the target on the ice, you should expect to get hit, you should expect for everyone to be coming after you, so if you have your head down trying to pass, it's his own fault, play smart hockey, dump it in deep, drop it to the defenseman, don't dangle around and wait for the last second to make a pass, cause then he's in a vulnerable position. And you can't compare the 2 hits, Cole had the puck, Pominville was waiting for the puck, different situations.

Orpik shouldn't have followed through with the hit but if Cole would have manned up he would be fine, instead he shows a hard hitting dman his back while driving hard in the offensive zone. I bet he wishes he could go back in time there. All that being said, the blame mostly falls on Orpik, i would say about 75% Orpik fault and 25% Cole.
I'm one of the biggest Penguins fan, but still, that was just wrong. Orpik should have pulled up when Cole was losing his balance while playing the puck.

that was a vicious hit, even if unintentional if you see the players number and name you cant hit the guy that far from the boards. ive played ice hockey most of my life since i was a kid and ive been hit like this only on a few occassions; but i can tell you even for a tough guy playing in the nhl its scary and extremely painful. A broken neck or serious injury of this kind occurs just about every time ive seen this play, nhl or not. Respect your fellow players, stop hits from behind!

It was a wicked hit but here's the problem, cole turned his body and orpik had him lined up, in that instance there isnt buch that could be done, i used to play hockey and play d and let me tell u when u have someone lined up like that and they turn it is very hard to pull up and not make the hit

Honestly a bad hit. I'm a penguins fan and I know that this was not a good hit... However, I think there is a lot that could've been done by both players. If I was in Cole's position I would never stop 4 feet from the boards, mainly because I would expect a hit. I would be either still moving or be hugging the boards. If I was Orpik I would have laid off the hit. But lets face it... in the heat of a game you don't think too much about it. It was a stupid hit, Orpik wanted some life in his team.

@rpovlik I agree, people always blame the one who's dishing out the hits, but if the victim isn't paying attention himself and has his head down, it's their own fault they got hurt and injured. Some hits like some of the icing injuries are just cheap and dirty from the attacker, but shit like this is totally the victim's fault.

@Azaereth When a player has the puck, he is the target on the ice, you should expect to get hit, you should expect for everyone to be coming after you, so if you have your head down trying to pass, it's his own fault, play smart hockey, dump it in deep, drop it to the defenseman, don't dangle around and wait for the last second to make a pass, cause then he's in a vulnerable position. And you can't compare the 2 hits, Cole had the puck, Pominville was waiting for the puck, different situations.

Cole set himself up for that. Orpik shouldn't have followed through with the hit but if Cole would have manned up he would be fine, instead he shows a hard hitting dman his back while driving hard in the offensive zone. I bet he wishes he could go back in time there. All that being said, the blame mostly falls on Orpik, i would say about 75% Orpik fault and 25% Cole.
