First, US population increases by 3 million each year. Second, nordic peoples are culturally and ethnically much more homogeneous than americans. Homogeneity helps to make Welfare successful. And third, the equivalent of European way in America is letting each US state manage healthcare, education, etc It should not be the federal government business, like norwegian or swedish public services are not the EU commission business.

In fact when US federal government intervened much less, those services worked much better. The federal education and health departments were created in the late 1970s. It also seems that your country is in great shape out of the EU. You don´t have the 27% of youth unemployment rate in Sweden. And 75% of your laws are not made by technocrats in Brussels. Swiss people don´t look unhappy either.

@PoddaJawada The main issue is that our Constitution doesn't allow it in its current form. The Constitution is our only protection from abuses of government power, and if it's going to be worth a damn, it needs to be enforced consistently. We do have the amendment process, and I wouldn't necessarily be opposed to socialist programs after an amendment allowing them is passed *if* I trusted our elected officials to put the people first instead of their corporate sponsors.

LOL look, whatever you may think about Obama's policies, I share some of your concerns, is beside the point. Obama, and Bush before him, were promoting state capitalism. That is, the government jointly owns banks, corporations etc., with the original capitalist owners. If Obama were a socialist he would fully nationalize banks, industries and put them under full government control without any joint ownership by the original capitalist bosses.

ANY government can force or coerce a private entity into doing something. AT&T for example, was pushed into helping the Bush White House with its wiretapping program. But Obama has not nationalized or put any of these companies under complete government control as they do in Venezuela for example. The CEOs, owners etc., still pocket the profits!

What I mean is they still get paid from what their companies make. Hiking taxes is not a socialist model, on the contrary, even in a full Communist nation like Cuba taxes were lowered as soon as Castro took over, the same in Venezuela. Any government can choose whether to hike or lower them. It would be socialist if Obama said "ok, GM and the banks are no longer privately owned, we own them and will change the names to the American National Car Company" or something of that sort.

The UK isn't falling apart, the only thing we have going on is the wave of Muslims/Middle Easterns wanting to get in and once they're in they don't pay for anything.
Life isn't about "getting a job" there are so many people growing up in areas of the country where education/career isn't incouraged and most of these people grow up with bad morals and end up screwed with no money. What is wrong with socialism? Where has it worked? In France, 70% of the population pays for their own healthcare because the nationalized healthcare is no good. So do you know what that means? They pay twice for something they could be paying for once.

You have a totally incorrect view of socialism and political science. The french system is one of the best and most efficient in the world. They live longer, happier, and healthier then we do, and pay just a little more in taxes for it. Obama wants to mandate coverage even if you can't afford it. Obama's plan is capitalist, NOT socialist. Socialised healthcare is the best in the world and the people will not stop until we have caught up with Europe.

If you tax the rich to take care of the others, the rich will stop working and then where do you get the money from? The government does not make money...they take it from the taxpayers. When there are too few taxpayers, the people will starve to death.

I'm afraid you are right and wrong..... the government DOES make money! The only problem is.... they have nothing to back it up with.... and it will be worth less then Monopoly Money! When our dollar declines, the entire world will go into the dumper with riots and killings. It will be everyone for THEMSELVES... No law and order!
