Pure chocolate without a little sugar brings out the tartness to the front row of any dish... Keep up the sugar Carlo, you make the music well... music!
Met you in Dunedin, Florida a long time ago and enjoyed the evening in song and commentary.
@davbear You are one total jealous prick matey! CC is a legend and you and your non educated comments make yourself the reason why you're a shit organist!
I have hosted the magnificent Carlo Curley two times at my Church in Detroit. The first time he played, he selected the program. The second time he performed, he ask me what I wanted to hear! The entire program was played by request of me and a few other people...a few hours before the concert. Needless to say the concert was incredible. Carlo is the greatest! BRAVO CARLO!
I was surprised to read these rude comments about CC, the only organist I know who plays without music most of the time. At his best, he is superb. The last time I heard him, in Salisbury, a few years ago, he did not mix with the audience at all, as he always used to: and when I sent an email suggesting some music, there was no reply. So, no longer very crowd friendly, but an excellent ambassador for the organ and very talented.
Carlo came to our town and accompanied our choir for zadok the priest. I was sitting right up from him so had a birds eye view. He was out of time! Then he mucked up another piece a little, and blamed an organ stop! He did play an amazing piece at the end though.
i have no doubt that carlo curley is a great organist , but if you have been to just one of his recitals then you need never attend another as he plays the SAME programme at every recital , i have learned through experience !!!!!
Baroque Performance Practise is primarily misicological conjecture based on what extant sources on performance pedegogy from the era are available to us now; we don't have any 18th cent. CDs of Bach playing the organ in Leipzig. Carlo's playing of this piece is accurate and beautiful. At Lincoln the music needs to be more detached at a fast tempo like this or you would just get a babbel of noise. As for Carpenter: I can't think of a ghastlier D minor toccata - pure PT Barnum showmanship!
The comments I make come from hearing this "unserious" organist in person! In fact he dedicated a new organ at my church. Even many in the congregation thought he was "silly" and somewhat "simple minded". But then again to each his own and I'm sorry if you were offended! FOr the amatuer musician I guess you'd like him for the trained educated musician he's a total joke. Has no concept of Bach's articulation and therefore "prostitutes" the music for the entertainment value. ENJOY!
Carlo's stated intention is to make organ music accessible to amateurs and the public in general. I happen to agree that he's not for purists, but I don't think that he really cares about that.
This is actually quite magnificent playing. Mr. Curley is one of the best players actively concertizing these days. nothing about this concert was baroque (well, the Bach, sort of) but this is not a baroque instrument, it is more of a romantic, symphonic instrument. Like I said, the playing was marvelous, it was uplifting and in some ways enlightening. I wish I could play as well as Carlo, oh well, that's what lessons and hour and hours of practice are for.
You know something, I really have to say it, its unbelievable the amount of people who make negative comments about this man who are actually insecure about their own performance, or they are know it all and know nothing, and above all, jealous of people who are either better or them, you know another thing, you people who I'm talking about are really letting yourseves down and proving me right. This man is faultless, it is his interpretaion of the music, not yours!

TOO FUNNY! Carlo is a joke! I've met him as he dedicated a new instrument at our church! He was rude, condescending and obnoxious! His playing was all the same detached, fast and loud. Part of a performers goal is to render music as the composer wrote it. Thats our purpose. When you change it to suit your ideas it "misses the point!" Carlo does this always. Try listening to Cameron Carpenter's you tube. He is good and a good performer!
THANKS FOR Making me deaf!! Could you play it any louder? Articulation was sad! When will you realize the "Virgil Fox" days are over!! Do you ever play like a REAL organist or are always this silly and a "want-ta-be?"
Your comments are deeply insulting to Carlo who is the gentlest and most wonderful impressario playing today and who inspired so many of us. So did Virgil. LONG LIVE HEAVY ORGAN!!! I've come to the computer after having played the five manual, truly an organ on steroids . . . as is this glorious performance by Carlo here. LONG LIVE THE KING!!!
The comments I make come from hearing this "unserious" organist in person! In fact he dedicated a new organ at my church. Even many in the congregation thought he was "silly" and somewhat "simple minded". And grew tired of the loud playing which was a majority of his program. May I ask who that is coming from? One of the greatest and most respected organists in the world? I will answer for you- No. Oh and that bit about being a "Real" organist simpley makes me laugh in utter amazement. He is one of the surprisingly few American organist the British have heard of (so he is pretty bloody good...) strangely thogh I havent heard of you so ju P*** off!

Classy! Carlo is a joke to the organ world! His playing is all the same! He has very little idea of interpretation and his goal is to promote himself therefore he "prostitutes" the music's intrepretation to entertain. And having met him I can honestly say he is very shallow and overbearing. Why? Because he is all about himself!
Hey Treasure -- Now you know I've loved you and your music for almost 18 years and it's so wonderful to be able to "look over your shoulder" as you play the Bach Sinfonia which I've heard you play many, many times IN PERSON! Sorry that Freddy and I couldn't be in Philly yesterday to see and hear you but I'm sure that all retail activity ceased when you played the first note. Oh to meet you under the Eagle... All good wishes to THE BEST from "you know who" from NC to TX !

That last chord alone was an impressive stretch - a major 11th A to a D in the right and left hand!

Gee could you be a bit more insulting, perhaps a few well placed four-letter words would make your one-sided opine more meaningful.
Next time try using the volume control. Like you could do any better or be more appreciative, I think not.
